Apple 's high stakes September launch event left some Wall Street analysts feeling unsettled. The largest company in the U.S. announced a host of new products Monday at its California headquarters, including a new Apple Watch, AirPods and the highly anticipated iPhone 16 that harnesses AI tools called Apple Intelligence. The delayed AI launch also creates uncertainty for sales volumes over the next two quarters, Long added. UBS analyst David Vogt viewed the event as "anticlimactic," adding that Apple offered no "killer" AI application. Elsewhere, Piper Sandler's Matt Farrell reiterated his neutral rating and $225 price target, noting that a slow rollout of Apple Intelligence could actually hamper enthusiasm for the features.

Wells Fargo bank analyst Mike Mayo highlighted Citigroup stock as his favorite bank name on Tuesday while speaking on CNBC's " Squawk on the Street ." Analysts at major Wall Street banks are getting more cautious on chip darling ASML , raising concerns about the critical chip equipment maker's demand outlook. Earlier this week, investment bank UBS downgraded ASML to "neutral" and cut its price target on the stock to 900 euros ($1,000.78) from 1,050 euros previously. Other Wall Street banks have subsequently come out with their own respective analyses on ASML — and they're more downbeat than they were before. The bank remains bullish on the stock, though, keeping ASML in its top pick for EU semiconductor equipment stocks. UBS cautioned ASML's machines could face a slowdown in demand due to an "architecture shift" to gate all around architecture, or GAA.

Assets in money market funds hit $6.3 trillion the week that ended Wednesday, another record high, according to the Investment Company Institute . The annualized 7-day yield on the Crane 100 list of the 100 largest taxable money funds is currently 5.08%. History shows that when investors do move out of money market funds, they move into fixed income over equities, he said. Institutional investors will also continue to move into money market funds as the Fed cuts rates because any cash they have in direct money market investments, such as Treasury bills, will be hit by rate cuts quicker than money market funds, explained Peter Crane, founder of Crane Data, a firm that tracks the industry. Once you have the appropriate cash needs set aside, consider moving any excess funds into fixed income, Jenkin said.

Critical chip equipment supplier ASML is set to face softer demand from buyers of its products in the coming years — and the artificial intelligence boom won't be enough to offset these downside risks, according to analysts at investment bank UBS . Dollar Tree also owns the long-struggling Family Dollar chain. While dollar stores once expanded to reach a growing number of financially strapped Americans, they underestimated just how financially strapped many Americans would become. “They missed the fact in tough times the consumer would be looking for consumables.”Meanwhile, Dollar Tree has been weighed down by its purchase of Family Dollar. Earlier this year, Dollar Tree announced that Family Dollar will close more than 900 stores, and it subsequently said it will explore a sale or spinoff of Family Dollar. In previous times of financial stress, Dollar General has seen middle-income and slightly more affluent households trade down into Dollar General to save money.

ZURICH, Switzerland ꟷ UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti said Wednesday that market volatility could intensify in the second half of the year, but he does not believe the U.S. is heading into a recession. Global equities saw sharp sell-offs last week as investors digested weak economic data out of the U.S. which raised fears about an economic downturn in the world's largest economy. It also raised questions about whether the Federal Reserve needed to be less hawkish with its monetary policy stance. When asked about the outlook for the U.S. economy, Ermotti said: "Not necessarily a recession, but definitely a slowdown is possible." "The macroeconomic indicators are not clear enough to talk about recessions, and actually, it's probably premature.
