However, real estate — specifically the commercial side — may be poised to take off. "This is absolutely the largest generational opportunity to invest in real estate in a long time," Issar said at the conference. "This is a time for investors to step in, move into attractive pricing, move into asset classes like non-core real estate." Investors can bet on a commercial real estate rebound by working with JPMAM's team, or on their own through publicly traded real estate investment trusts (REITs). "That is the modernization of the new direct real estate that is going to be really attractive for investors in the future."

New York CNN —The US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered Goldman Sachs and Apple to pay $89 million, and Goldman was temporarily banned from issuing new credit cards, because of the companies’ mishandling of their Apple Card partnership. Apple neglected to send tens of thousands of Apple Card disputes to Goldman Sachs, the CFPB said. The Apple Card issued by Goldman Sachs and running on the Mastercard network rolled out in August 2019. In April 2023, Apple announced it would be offering its Apple Card holders a 4.15% high-yield savings account with Goldman Sachs. They may park both the 3% cash back they receive from using the Apple Card on select purchases plus other savings they may wish to deposit.

Mike Kemp | In Pictures | Getty ImagesLONDON — The U.K. is likely to see interest rates drop at a faster pace than previously expected, according to economists who flagged key data releases that indicated inflationary pressures are finally easing. However, economists at Goldman Sachs in a Monday note forecast rate cuts "notably below market pricing." As a result, they see consecutive 25 basis point cuts taking the Bank Rate to 3% as early as September 2025, and to 2.75% in November next year. "Recent data have cemented expectations of another cut in interest rates in November. "That said, uncertainty around the economic outlook is high, and interest rate expectations will be sensitive to what the government announces in the Budget," Muir added.

The U.S. dollar clung to a two-and-half-month high on Tuesday on expectations the Federal Reserve will take a measured approach to interest rate cuts, while a close battle in the upcoming U.S. election kept investors on edge. The U.S. dollar clung to a two-and-half-month high on Tuesday on expectations the Federal Reserve will take a measured approach to interest rate cuts, while a close battle in the upcoming U.S. election kept investors on edge. Four Federal Reserve policymakers expressed support on Monday for further rate cuts, but appeared to differ on how fast or far they believe any cuts should go. With the U.S. election just two weeks away, the rising odds of former President Donald Trump winning the Nov. 5 election are boosting the dollar, since his proposed tariff and tax policies are seen as likely to keep U.S. interest rates high. The yen on Tuesday was at 150.57 per dollar, hovering close to the two-and-half-month low of 150.88.

Goldman Sachs forecasts muted S&P 500 gains, with a 3% annual return over 10 years. Diversification and equal-weighted S&P 500 exposure may offer better long-term returns. The bank's most bearish scenario would see the S&P 500 decline by an annual 1%, while its more positive calls for a gain of 7%. Goldman SachsAdding an exchange-traded fund that tracks the equal-weighted S&P 500 could be one way to go about it. The S & P 500 returned 13% annually the last 10 years, above the long-term average of 11%, according to Goldman. Goldman's bearish long-term forecast comes just as the S & P 500 has entered the third year of a bull market, garnering a 27% annual total return the last two years. "The current high level of equity valuations is a key reason our 10-year forward return forecast sits at the lower end of the historical distribution," stated the note. The firm said the equal-weight S & P 500 would produce higher returns than the regular benchmark because of the concentration risk. The Invesco S & P 500 Equal Weight ETF (RSP)F tracks an equally distributed version of the index.

The S&P 500 will see annualized returns of 3% over the next 10 years, says Goldman Sachs. By its calculation, the S&P 500 has about a 72% chance of trailing bonds, and a 33% probability of lagging inflation through 2034. These stocks include tech large-caps such as Nvidia and Alphabet, whose performance has driven the S&P 500 more than 20% higher year-to-date. The launch of margin trading follows the recent approval of the product, after Robinhood held conversations with Britain's financial regulator, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Margin trading is a rarity in the U.K., where regulators see it as more controversial because of the risks involved to users. Some platforms in the country limit margin trading for only high-net-worth individuals or businesses. In the case of margin trading, investors can use borrowed money to increase the size of their trades. At the time of launch, Robinhood was unable to offer U.K. users the option of margin trading, pending discussions with the FCA.

Investors worried about a market correction should adjust their portfolios, David Rosenberg says. The top economist has warned stocks are in a bubble and at risk of a major decline. Investors need to exercise caution and avoid following the "herd mentality," Rosenberg said, pointing to the fervor for mega-cap tech stocks. Instead, he said, investors should focus on stocks with strong business models, strong growth, and good prices, and add some "insurance" to their portfolios. Most forecasters on Wall Street still expect a strong performance from equities into year-end and 2025.

Inflation is not deadDaly began her talk with an anecdote of a recent encounter she had while walking near her home. But the conversation encapsulated a dilemma for the Fed: If inflation is on the run, why are interest rates still so high? As evidenced by the young man's question, convincing people that inflation is easing is a tough sell. watch nowThe annual rate of CPI inflation was 2.4% in September, a vast improvement over the 9.1% top in June 2022. However, year-over-year spending increased just 1.7%, below the 2.4% CPI inflation rate.
