A Reddit spokesperson declined to share the number of employees the company had let go so far, or planned to in total. In total, 10 former Reddit staffers who lost their jobs in January told Insider they did not consider themselves low performers based on their past feedback from the company. One current staffer told Insider they felt they may have been on the chopping block in January and narrowly avoided a termination. Some moved from business development jobs to work on creator services within its community-management and product teams, the Reddit spokesperson previously told Insider. Reddit also informed employees about a cut to some benefits late last year, eight current and former staffers told Insider.

Pete Buttigieg gave the airline a deadline for refunds, but it came and went. John Erickson, a Southwest passenger who was stuck in Denver for three days after Southwest canceled his flight, told WFLA the airline told him it would take months to receive his refund. In a statement provided to Insider, Southwest rebuked the possibility it engaged in unrealistic flight schedules. Southwest previously told Insider last week it was still working daily to process refund and reimbursement requests from passengers. The spokesperson said DOT "will hold Southwest accountable if it fails" to issue timely refunds or reimbursements.

New York CNN —Southwest Airlines’ customers are furious about the company’s Christmas week service meltdown. Southwest said that it lost about $350 million in ticket sales for January and February because people have avoided bookings on the airline. No wonder: the holidays are perhaps the worst time of the year to strand customers. One group that has clearly not forgiven Southwest as of yet is airline investors. Southwest (LUV) shares closed Tuesday down only 1% from where they closed December 19, the day before the meltdown started.

A Seattle high school basketball team spent Christmas in Vegas after a canceled Southwest flight. "He was like, 'I just want to get those kids home safely,'" Virginia Bethea said. Michael and Virginia Bethea even went out and bought each of the kids a Christmas gift. Southwest earlier this month said it canceled around 16,700 flights between Dec. 21 through Dec. 31 after severe winter weather swept through the U.S. The airline on Thursday said the mass cancellations hit its pretax results by $800 million, in line with its estimate earlier this month of a hit between $725 million and $825 million. The U.S. Department of Transportation is in the initial phases of an investigation into Southwest Airlines' travel meltdown, and the agency will look at whether executives overscheduled flights, a spokesperson said. The Department of Transportation is “probing whether Southwest executives engaged in unrealistic scheduling of flights which under federal law is considered an unfair and deceptive practice,” the agency spokesperson said. Southwest Airlines did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday evening. “DOT will leverage the full extent of its investigative and enforcement power to ensure consumers are protected and this process will continue to evolve as the Department learns more,” the department spokesperson said Wednesday. Southwest Airlines offered 25,000 Rapid Rewards points to people affected by its holiday meltdown. The carrier sent points to an estimated 2 million people, putting the value at about $750 million. The low-cost carrier started sending out 25,000 Rapid Rewards points to qualifying customers in early January. Southwest sent the points to around two million customers, company CEO Bob Jordan told CNBC. The decision to offer free frequent flier points was an effort by Southwest to repair the damage created by its poor December performance.
