“We are a positive, inclusive brand, with a nice sensibility, very different from what they encountered in the past,” Fran Horowitz, now Abercrombie’s CEO, said in 2016. Today, Abercrombie’s stores are lighter than they once were and its clothes are looser. Abercrombie’s sales have grown and its stock has increased more than 400% since Jeffries stepped down as CEO. But retail analysts say that Abercrombie’s brand won’t be hurt by the indictment because of how much separation Abercrombie has been able to create from its former CEO. Older Abercrombie customers who remember the brand’s sexualized marketing have accepted Abercrombie’s rebrand, while a new generation of customers are too young to remember the old era.

He then looked at the diverging fortunes of those restaurants that went on to receive a Michelin star — a signifier of excellence in the industry. By 2019, Sands found that restaurants given a Michelin star were more likely to shutter. The publicity created around an award such as a Michelin star drives interest. But he pointed out that even if they ultimately failed, the Michelin restaurants that closed in Sands' research generally had a pretty good run. In many ways, "what to do about growth" is a classic question in any business, including restaurants and hospitality.

Former Abercrombie & Fitch Chairman and CEO Mike Jeffries addresses stockholders during the company's annual meeting at its headquarters in New Albany, Ohio, on May 22, 2003. Abercrombie & Fitch washed its hands of its former CEO Mike Jeffries after he was arrested on federal sex trafficking charges, saying in a Wednesday statement the company is "committed to fully cooperating with law enforcement as the legal process continues." Jeffries and Smith are accused of coercing aspiring Abercrombie models into sex acts in exchange for modeling gigs, among other acts. In its statement, Abercrombie said it supports the victims who have come forward. "Our thoughts remain with those who have bravely raised their voices as part of the federal investigation."

As Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance campaigns across the country, his wife, Usha Vance, has been a near-constant presence by his side. Reporters huddled under the wing of JD Vance’s campaign plane often get a glimpse of a book's dust cover as Usha Vance climbs the towable stairs or stands on the tarmac. Though she’s a fixture on the campaign trail, Vance has not occupied a forward-facing public role like other political spouses. As JD Vance has noted on the campaign trail, she left her corporate law firm following the senator’s nomination for vice president in July. Disney said Monday it would name a new CEO in early 2026 and named James Gorman as board chairman. Bob Iger's previous succession plan failed, leading to his return as CEO in 2022. Disney is no longer letting new customers sign up for Hulu or Disney+ via Apple's App Store. Disney is now telling would-be customers to pay for subscriptions on Disney's own site, instead of on Apple's App Store — though people who've already started paying for either service via Apple can keep doing that. But the App Store split does represent a rift between two longtime partners, so it's definitely worth noting. Disney's rationale is clear here: When customers sign up for Disney subscription services via Apple, Apple takes up to 15% of the monthly fees those services generate. Just like Netflix in 2018, Disney has decided that the services Apple offers through its App Store — the ability to market to and bill a giant installed base — aren't worth giving up a meaningful chunk of revenue.

New York CNN —Listen up, corporate boards: If you’re looking for the biggest trend in leadership this fall, look no further. Corporate America’s hottest CEO pick is a classic model — the Middle Aged White Guy. Just 52 businesses in the 2024 Fortune 500 ranking were run by women, holding flat from the year before. Obviously, White Guy CEO never went out of fashion — women have rarely represented more than 10% of Fortune 500 companies. But a rash of recent leadership shakeups illustrates the enduring power of the White Guy as a kind of capsule wardrobe for corporate leadership.

Niantic initially rejected Bell's pitch, so he emailed the company's CEO once per week for three months — ultimately securing $150,000 in startup funds, Bell said. "That's brilliant, and I hate you, because now everybody out there is going to send us 600 emails a week," investor judge Mark Cuban told Bell in response. His Austin-based app, Card.io, is a social game where users compete for turf in their city by walking, running or biking. The lawsuit alleges that Strum was demanding $50 million from Lasry or she threatened to make things "really, really, ugly." In the suit, Lasry, the former owner of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks and a longtime Democratic megadonor, alleges that his former employee, Gina Strum, was trying to extort him for $50 million. The suit states that Lasry rebuffed Strum's advances, but that did not stop the flow of texts. "Ms. Strum wrongly asserted that Ms. Gardner's 2022 surgery should have been disclosed to Avenue's investors, because according to Ms. Strum, Ms. Gardner was in poor health and had not been working for the last two years," the suit reads. The U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, who built a powerful Islamic movement in Turkey and beyond but spent his later years mired in accusations of orchestrating an attempted coup against Turkish leader Reccep Tayyip Erdogan, has died. Since the failed coup, his movement has been systematically dismantled in Turkey and its influence has declined internationally. Soon after the 2016 coup, Erdogan described Gulen’s network as traitors and “like a cancer”, vowing to root them out wherever they are. The Turkish government said its actions were justified by the gravity of the threat posed to the state by the coup. Gulen had travelled to the United States for medical treatment but remained there as he faced a criminal investigation in Turkey.

But now, as Trump lines up against DeSantis in a battle over a high-profile ballot initiative to legalize marijuana in Florida, the governor’s old ally, Jeff Roe, is working against him. WASHINGTON — With just two weeks left in the 2024 campaign, there currently are no plans for Vice President Kamala Harris to appear on the trail with President Joe Biden before Election Day, according to three Harris campaign officials and three White House officials. Biden last appeared with Harris at a campaign event nearly seven weeks ago, on Labor Day in early September. That’s a contrast to former President Obama, who has headlined a series of Harris campaign events, and former President Bill Clinton who has also been on the trail for the vice president. First lady Jill Biden has headlined multiple events for the Harris campaign as well and is set to hit the trail for her again on Wednesday in Nevada. White House and campaign officials say the president understands the strategy behind his downsized role in the campaign, even if at times he doesn’t like it.
