“I think you were trying to roast me, but this is actually fact — I do have a BMI of 30. Critics say the term BMI has become a societal judgment by lumping individuals into arbitrary categories that perpetuate misconceptions about body weight. “She could easily say, ‘I am in perfectly good health, so just take your BMI of 25 and shove it.’”That’s exactly the scenario facing Maher. Conversely, BMI can underestimate body fat in older adults and anyone who has lost muscle, according to the Harvard T.H. There is a movement in the medical profession to move away from crude BMI measurements in clinical practice.

After all, the last time a guy named Shapiro had been elected governor of Pennsylvania, he had years earlier anglicized his name to Shapp. “I’m not aware of how his position on Israel differs from the other potential vice presidents,” Hawaii Sen. Brian Schatz, who is both Jewish and a proud progressive, told CNN. Of the VP’s choices, Shapiro is the one who stands out as the most divisive and could put a stop in everyone being on the same page,” said one Jewish Democratic operative. But I will say his attacks, this might surprise you, don’t bother me personally,” Shapiro said at the time. But calling what’s coming at Shapiro “pure antisemitism,” Rep. At six million acres, New York’s Adirondack Park is the size of Vermont, and larger than all of New Jersey. A unique mix of state and private property that encompasses mountains, wilderness areas and lakes, the park draws more than 12 million visitors annually who want to hike, paddle, explore and more. I’ve vacationed in the park for the past 16 years, appreciating its wild beauty more each time I visit. Even with the park’s size — 10 distinct regions and 20 wilderness areas lie within its borders — many visitors don’t venture far from the park’s population centers. “The quieter parts of the park are untouched,” said Jane Hooper, communications manager for the area’s Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism.

CNN —For David Smith, playing the sport he loves has come with adaptations. Smith was born with severe hearing loss in both of his ears and relies on lip-reading to understand what his volleyball teammates and coaches are saying. But his disability comes with its own unique set of challenges, one which Smith describes as “hard work. Smith began playing volleyball aged 14, initially as a summertime hobby outside of his regular sporting passion: Soccer. Speraw describes discovering Smith as like “finding a diamond in a rough.” He also said that Smith’s disability never came into play.

Eleven years ago, in 2013, Holder said that Mohammed and his associates would have been “on death row as we speak” had the case gone to federal court as he proposed. But he blamed Congress for blocking a federal trial that would have resulted in swifter justice. They were dealt a bad hand by the political hacks and those who lost faith in our justice system,” Holder said in a statement to NBC News on Thursday. “If my decision to try KSM and his confederates in the tested and effective federal court system had been followed they would be nothing more than a memory today,” Holder said. Since Vice President Kamala Harris became the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, Donald Trump has been invoking her name a lot. Harris pronounces it “KA-ma-la.” Trump, however, has often been pronouncing it “Ka-MA-la” or even “KUH-ma-la.” He did it again yesterday at the convention of the National Association of Black Journalists. He insists he doesn’t care one way or another (though after audience members voiced their disapproval, he shifted his emphasis to the first syllable). But while so many of us have learned from our mistakes, Trump has defiantly not, and his acolytes have joined right in. The fact that the name is pronounced in different ways — though I’d challenge Trump to come up with seven — hardly means that none is correct.

As a Republican governor who has won four elections in a purple state, I’ve learned a thing or two about how to win. Catchy one-liners — calling Vice President Harris a “bum,” “not a serious person” and “bottom of the barrel” — might rile up the base, but they do little to connect with independent voters needed to close the deal in November. Independent voters are independent for a reason. They are not driven to the polls by personal attacks.
