CNN —The Met Gala is an evening of style, glamour and… baby news. In a pair of stylish debuts, tennis world champ Serena Williams and model and entrepreneur Karlie Kloss both stepped on to the Met Gala red carpet on Monday in New York City sporting very special accessories: babies on the way. “There’s three of us here,” Wiliams told Lala Anthony during Vogue’s live red carpet show. Michel Gaubert first crossed paths with Karl Lagerfeld when he worked at a record store on the Champs-Élysée. “All his life Karl was obsessed with music,” he recalled. All his life Karl was obsessed with music. Then one day Eric came and asked if I wanted to work with the Karl Lagerfeld brand. Karl said Diane de Beauvau-Craon [a French princess and a pal of Mr. Lagerfeld’s] would call me.
NEW YORK—At this year’s Met Gala, the celebrity-packed museum fundraiser held on the first Monday in May, the most anticipated guest is a cat. Choupette Lagerfeld, an 11-year-old Birman with enormous blue eyes and silky white fur, belonged to Karl Lagerfeld, the late German fashion designer and honoree of this year’s ball. For the former creative director of Chanel, Fendi and Chloé, who died in 2019 at the age of 85 without children, Choupette may be the closest thing to a living relative. Fans are hoping to see her strut the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in his honor.

Karl frequently surprised the world as a designer (he loved to turn heads), but it was as a friend that he surprised me most. Many years ago, when I was facing my first summer vacation with my children after my divorce, I was frozen. It was Karl, of all people, who sensed this and swooped in to lend a hand. Karl was perhaps even less a kid person than he was a porcelain person, but he went all out when I most needed it. A real relationship with Karl was an association and connection built incrementally, over years.

SAY YES TO NO STRESS Not everyone has access to designer work duds like Anne Hathaway in ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ seen here in a swanky Chanel blazer. But a few easy hacks will make assembling the perfect office look a breeze. Photo: Everett CollectionFOR MOST women in traditional offices, assembling a workplace wardrobe is excruciating—and not for reasons you might expect. While the post-WFH era ushered in the “How casual is too casual?” guessing game, the most pressing workwear problems predate Covid 19. Do wrinkle-resistant blazers exist?—that few women openly discuss and even fewer brands adequately address.

LONDON, April 21 (Reuters) - French police are involved in an ongoing investigation relating to a probe by EU antitrust regulators into possible violations by European luxury companies, a police spokesperson said on Friday. The European Commission said on Tuesday that antitrust regulators had raided companies in the fashion sector in multiple EU countries, but did not name the companies involved or specify the potential breaches it was investigating. Reuters reported on Wednesday that the Milan headquarters of Gucci, owned by Kering (PRTP.PA), had been inspected by Italian tax police and EU antitrust officials as part of the probe. Kering confirmed the inspection and said it was fully cooperating with the European Commission. Asked by Reuters if French companies had also been targeted by the EU inspections, which would be conducted in cooperation with local authorities, a police spokesperson said: "We're in an ongoing investigation", declining to elaborate.

To be sure, the outsized rallies for luxury stocks — and new highs for the fund — could also be a sign that a reversal is near, at least in the short-term. However, Roth MKM chief market technician JC O'Hara said in a note to clients on Sunday that it appears that luxury stocks still have room to run. "We first highlighted the strength of the Luxury Goods market in early December. Since that time, the S & P Global Luxury Goods Index has risen +13%, versus the S & P 500, +1.8%.

Meanwhile, BlackRock is part of another group investing $650 million to build chargers along freight routes. Because port real estate is at a premium, most early drayage charging projects will be "behind the fence" on trucking company property, experts said. Electric trucks cannot operate without chargers, but it does not make sense to build chargers if drivers are not using electric trucks. Prologis, the biggest U.S. warehouse owner, created its mobility business to install electric truck chargers and solar panels. "A marriage between real estate and energy infrastructure" will be needed to accelerate the transition to electric-powered trucking, Prologis Mobility's Holland said.

European labels including LVMH's Louis Vuitton and Dior, as well as Chanel and Hermes have been riding a wave of strong demand from Americans, who emerged from lockdowns with savings and a desire to splash out on designer labels. He added the group is taking a cautious approach to price increases this year -- not just for cognac. "It's probably the most emblematic luxury store in the world," said Guiony. Elliott Savage, portfolio manager of U.S.-based fund YCG Investments, which holds shares in LVMH and other luxury brands, said a weakening U.S. luxury market in the near term could present an opportunity for dominant players to take market share.
Resale clothing shoppers are bypassing previously-owned luxury brands at discounted prices in favor of scoring secondhand mid-tier brands for less. As many as 75% of consumers have shopped, or are open to shopping, for secondhand clothing – and demand has only grown during the pandemic. At the event, brands including A. Lange & Söhne, Zenith and Panerai focused on their sportier and more utilitarian models, introducing new interpretations of the classics with a mix of vintage-inspired details and, in some cases, a new minimalism. Rolex introduced the 1908 Perpetual, a sleek and dressy timepiece that launches a new line of watches for the brand. Striking new jewelry pieces from companies like Chanel and Van Cleef & Arpels added a lighthearted approach to serious gemstones and gold.

At the Oscars, only a few will venture home with a little gold statue. Yet out on the red carpet, there is sure to be a bounty of little gilded brooches pinned to the glittery guests’ lapels. The male brooch has been an inescapable sight this awards season, highlights of which include Irish swooner Paul Mescal with a feathery Cartier pendant at the Baftas, Marvel star Simu Liu sporting a blossoming two-toned brooch to the Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards and kingpin producer Nile Rodgers sporting not one, but two double-C Chanel pins to the Grammys.
When she turned around, her thong was fully visible, rising up from the ultra-low Eduardo Lucero jersey dress. Gillian Anderson's fashion choices for the 2001 Vanity Fair Oscars party have become an iconic early 2000s moment. Anderson told a panel in 2016 that the thong was a last-minute decision, not a planned style choice. But when I put it on, my pubic hairs poked through the dress,” Anderson told the moderator and the audience to raucous laughter. As for the fate of the Eduardo Lucero dress, Anderson donated it to a charity auction (sans thong) to benefit research into the genetic disorder Neurofibromatoses, according to her website.

The entire set was built around towering, white camellia sculptures that faced the audience, seated in steep risers ringing the space, a sprawling exhibition hall south of the Eiffel Tower. Most looks were black and white, paraded by models striding on shiny black platform boots, often with patterned white tights. For the finale, the massive camellia sculptures suddenly glowed red, and slowly shifted between red and a bright pink as models rounded the room. The catwalk presentation was held on the final day of Paris Fashion Week, which drew crowds of celebrities to the French capital, and featured big-name labels including Hermes, Valentino, LVMH-owned (LVMH.PA) Dior and Louis Vuitton, Kering-owned (PRTP.PA) labels Saint Laurent and Balenciaga.

REUTERS/Benoit TessierPARIS, March 2 (Reuters) - Givenchy creative director Matthew M. Williams focused on dresses at the French fashion house’s fall runway show at Paris Fashion Week on Thursday, sending out a line-up of long, slinky gowns that swept the runway. Layered looks were less present than in previous seasons, though there were a few, mixing brown shearling and slick, black leather. While the models marched to a solemn, electronic beat in a temporary tent at the Ecole Militaire in central Paris, some of the guests were more flamboyant. The show took place on the fourth day of Paris Fashion week, which runs through March 7, and features big name labels including Dior, Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton Hermes and Chanel.
At the fall/winter collections in Milan, where much of the world’s luxury fashion is marketed, money was on everyone’s minds. Will the luxury industry contract along with the economy—or will it manage to churn out clothing that is recession-proof? But in other ways, fashion is an island. With prices at luxury brands rising in recent years—some, like Chanel, eye-poppingly so—the resilience in demand makes fashion feel a world apart from economic anxieties. “We haven’t encountered any resistance yet” said one luxury executive that I spoke with about raising prices.
There's no "right way" to become successful. That's what Jasmina Aganovic, the 35-year-old CEO of beauty biotech startup Arcaea, wishes she'd known before she embarked on her career. Aganovic, who has a degree in chemical and biological engineering from MIT, launched Arcaea in 2021 after multiple stints developing products for other biotech companies. Her startup develops lab-grown compounds that mimic common ingredients in beauty products, but in a more effective and sustainable way, she says. School taught her to always search for "the clear, best answer," Aganovic says.
