Zelensky and Trump loom over DavosTwo people are having an outsize impact at the World Economic Forum, and one of them isn’t even there. One is Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s president, who put on a full-court press of business and global leaders at the forum in Davos, Switzerland. BEIJING (Reuters) - China Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the war in Gaza continues to escalate and China is calling for a larger-scale, more authoritative and effective international peace conference and a concrete timetable to implement a two-state solution. Wang made the comments to reporters after talks with the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo, sharing his views on the Israel-Hamas war, according to a statement from the Chinese foreign ministry late on Sunday. Wang, China's top diplomat, is currently travelling through Egypt, Tunisia, Togo and the Ivory Coast until Thursday. Wang said the infrastructure of the Gaza Strip has been completely destroyed, with millions struggling to survive. He said China has decided to provide a third tranche of emergency humanitarian assistance.

Federal student loan borrowers who initially took out smaller loan amounts may be eligible for debt cancellation sooner than they anticipated. The SAVE plan, which reduces payments for millions of borrowers, opened for enrollment last August. But some of its benefits, like the shortened path to forgiveness, were not set to take effect until July 2024. SAVE cuts that term by half for people who initially borrowed $12,000 or less and reduces the repayment timeline for those who originally borrowed $21,000 or less. For example, if someone originally borrowed $13,000 in loans, any remaining balance would be forgiven after 11 years of payments.

Billionaires are actually great for the economy, a director at the American Enterprise Institute argues. That's because billionaire innovators produce trillions of dollars of value for the US. The center-right think tank's Michael Strain argues that billionaires produce many times their net worth in value for the economy through their innovations. But billionaire innovators — not billionaire heirs and heiresses — may be the exception to that, Strain said. AdvertisementIn fact, billionaire innovators should be considered "worthy of emulation" for children, Strain added, praising an array of business icons.
