The reform bill is a core tenet of Milei's push to revive the country's crisis-stricken economy. "Today there are two Argentinas," Argentina's vice president said, according to Reuters.

It’s the backpacker’s call to India, the sunseeker’s attraction to Mexico, and the digital nomad’s drive to get to Thailand: Go where the dollar buys more. The evergreen budget travel strategy is getting a boost this summer: The dollar has surged against a number of foreign currencies, including the Japanese yen, thanks to high interest rates offered by the Federal Reserve — attracting foreign investment, which bolsters the dollar. “A destination’s weaker currency spells greater value for U.S. tourists,” said Erina Pindar, the chief operating officer and managing partner at SmartFlyer, a global travel agency based in New York City. “This economic advantage could make far-flung bucket list destinations in Asia, such as Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan, or in South America, like Peru, Argentina and Chile, more accessible than ever before,” she added.

But there was one thing I was certain about: my kids would be bilingual in English and Spanish. My approach was to speak to my kids in Spanish and see what happened. When they started talking, people couldn't understand what they saidWhen all my kids started speaking their first words, only my husband and I could understand what they were saying because they would mix both languages in a sentence. The dollar posted its first monthly decline of the year in May, weighed down by shifting expectations on when the U.S. central bank will cut rates and by how much. Traders are now pricing in about a 53% chance of a rate cut in September, versus about 49% before the report. The dollar index , which measures the U.S. currency against six rivals, was 0.067% lower at 104.51 on Monday. Sterling was 0.04% higher at $1.27475, while the euro last fetched $1.085325 ahead of the European Central Bank policy meeting on Thursday when the central bank is seen as almost certain to cut rates. The comments from ECB officials will be in focus for traders along with economic projections as they assess whether the central bank will provide further cuts after Thursday in the wake of data showing a rise in euro zone inflation in May.

The presidential election in the United States this year is, yet again, a contest between two men. But in Latin America, as Mexico’s milestone election showed over the weekend, electing a woman as president has become remarkably routine. Claudia Sheinbaum, who won Mexico’s election in a landslide against another female candidate, Xóchitl Gálvez, joins at least a dozen other women who have served as presidents of Latin American countries since the 1970s. This growing list includes past leaders of two of Latin America’s largest countries, Dilma Rousseff of Brazil and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner of Argentina, and those in smaller nations like Violeta Chamorro of Nicaragua and Xiomara Castro, the current president of Honduras. The ascension of women to such heights spotlights how some democracies in Latin America that emerged from the ashes of authoritarian rule have proven exceptionally open to tearing down barriers to political representation.

The criminal trial and conviction of (mostly former) national leaders has happened in stable, mature democracies, just as it has in former dictatorships. The track record of convicted leaders shows just how risky it is to try to predict what will happen. In 2017, South Korea impeached and later criminally convicted now-former President Park Geun-hye in a bizarre corruption scandal involving the influence of a friend and confidante. After a scandal emerged involving the state oil company Petrobras, Lula was convicted in 2017 of corruption and money laundering. “Political leaders can choose how they will speak about these institutions.”

It's a more aggressive approach than many investors employ, because being a short seller is infinitely more risky than buying shares. But when you short, the potential loss is unlimited because there's no guarantee a stock's price will fall; it could instead rally to extreme highs. These variables include low institutional ownership, low cash reserves, and market caps smaller than $250 million, among other characteristics that could signal a vulnerable stock. U.S. one hundred dollar bills are being shown in this picture illustration taken in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Dec. 15, 2023. The dollar soared to a two-week high against its major peers on Thursday, as a rout in Treasuries improved the currency's allure due to both higher U.S. yields and demand for safe haven assets. The bond market rout has spooked investors, with equities globally sliding sharply this week, spurring a rush to the safest assets. The yen , however, climbed off a four-week low of 157.715 per dollar from overnight to last trade at 157.505. And among those watching most closely are world leaders near and far. Of course, world leaders have generally stayed mum on the issue of which man they prefer – although I would wager that most favor the status quo over a return to the raucous years of Trump’s presidency. Some world leaders have already signaled their aversion to another Trump presidency. But for these foreign leaders, coming out against Trump is a move that is chock full of risks.
