Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, departs federal court after a plea hearing on two misdemeanor charges of willfully failing to pay income taxes in Wilmington, Delaware, July 26, 2023. Hunter Biden will seek to dismiss the federal indictment against him that included three charges he was arraigned on earlier this week, according to a new court filing. "He will seek to dismiss the Indictment against him pursuant to the immunity provisions of that Agreement," Lowell said. But the deal collapsed in federal court on the day of his arraignment in July and he wound up pleading not guilty on the tax charges. Hunter Biden was indicted in mid-September on three federal gun charges.

But then two days beforehand Musk raised "several spurious objections" and told the SEC he would not appear, the SEC said. According to the filing, Musk has given the SEC documents relating to the probe and has previously provided testimony in July last year via video conference. "The SEC has already taken Mr. Musk's testimony multiple times in this misguided investigation - enough is enough," said a statement from Alex Spiro, an attorney for Musk. Musk acquired Twitter after initially building a large minority stake in the social media platform, which he first disclosed in April 2022. Faced with a trial that sought to compel him to complete the deal, Musk closed his acquisition of Twitter in late October 2022.

Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Delaware federal court to criminal charges related to having a handgun while being a drug user. Hunter Biden, 53, was indicted last month on three firearms counts. Mexico and China are the primary sources for fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances trafficked directly into the U.S., according to the Drug Enforcement Administration, which is tasked with combating illicit drug trafficking. And last year a group of Republican attorneys general asked the president to declare fentanyl a weapon of mass destruction. The U.S. has taken a slew of actions to stem the tide of fentanyl coming into the country. And state lawmakers nationwide are responding to the deadliest overdose crisis in U.S. history by pushing harsher penalties for possessing fentanyl. It would also impose reporting requirements and enable the president to confiscate sanctioned property of fentanyl traffickers to use for law enforcement efforts.

Hunter Biden, son of U.S. President Joe Biden, departs federal court after a plea hearing on two misdemeanor charges of willfully failing to pay income taxes in Wilmington, Delaware, U.S. July 26, 2023. The indictment was secured in September by Special Counsel David Weiss after a plea agreement between Hunter Biden and prosecutors collapsed in August. Many Republican lawmakers who have relentlessly criticized Hunter Biden lauded the Bruen decision. Cases now being litigated will help determine how far the Bruen ruling lets courts go in invalidating gun laws. Even if Hunter Biden gets the possession charge dismissed, there is still the matter of the two counts accusing him of false statements on the background check form.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hunter Biden sued Rudy Giuliani and another attorney Tuesday, saying the two wrongly accessed and shared his personal data after obtaining it from the owner of a Delaware computer repair shop. The suit filed in California also claims Biden’s data was “manipulated, altered and damaged” before it was sent to Giuliani and Costello, and has been further altered since then. House Republicans, meanwhile, have continued to investigate every aspect of Hunter Biden's business dealings and sought to tie them to his father, the president, as part of an impeachment inquiry. Hunter Biden, meanwhile, after remaining silent as the images are splayed across the country, has changed his tactic, and his allies have signaled there's more to come. Giuliani provided the information to a reporter at the New York Post, which first wrote about the laptop, Biden's attorney said in a letter pushing for a federal investigation.

Hunter Biden on Tuesday sued former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani, his companies, and another attorney over alleged violations of computer fraud and data access related to a laptop computer Biden is said to have left at a Delaware repair shop. "They also are among those who have been primarily responsible for the 'total annihilation' of Plaintiff's data." Giuliani delivered information allegedly gleaned from Biden's laptop to The New York Post, a right-wing newspaper, in October 2020, a month before the election between Trump and Joe Biden. The Post then published a story based on that data, which suggested that President Biden may have attended a meeting with a representative of a Ukrainian company that employed Hunter. The suit also says Biden's data was "manipulated, altered and damaged" before it was copied and sent to Giuliani and Costello.

U.S. Attorney David Weiss speaks during a press conference on May 3, 2018, at his district office in Wilmington, Del. The Department of Justice said that David Weiss — the special counsel prosecuting Hunter Biden — in the "near term" will be able to testify to the House Judiciary Committee as part of its own probe of the son of President Joe Biden. But the DOJ in a letter Friday to the House panel did not commit to making Weiss available by mid-October, as committee chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, has asked. And it is not clear when Weiss will be allowed to appear by the DOJ. Soon after she met Menendez, Arslanian worked with businessman Wael Hana to introduce the senator, the powerful chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, to Egyptian officials, the indictment said. CNN —Millions of American homeowners could see insurance rates surge in the coming years in part due to worsening climate disasters, new data shows. It’s another alarming sign for the future of America’s homeowners’ insurance market. “We’re still kind of at the forefront of the insurance industry pricing in climate risk into the real estate market,” Porter told CNN. David Minkin, an attorney for Maui County, told Reuters that only a small portion, if any, of its land was involved in the blaze. Wildfire victims have struggled over the years to hold landowners liable, even for fires ignited on their property. Rick Linkert, a California attorney who specializes in defending wildfire cases, said it may not be easy for Wells' legal team to show negligence. They would have to demonstrate there was an accepted standard for managing grasslands and that the landowners ignored it, he said. Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden (R), leaves the J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 26, 2023. A federal judge Wednesday denied a request by Hunter Biden to have his first court appearance on felony firearm charges be conducted via video. Judge Christopher Burke ordered Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, to appear in U.S. District Court in Wilmington, Delaware, in person for that hearing on Tuesday. The lawyer, Abbe Lowell, told the judge that Hunter Biden will plead not guilty to the charges during his appearance, "and there is no reason why he cannot utter those two words by video conference." Weiss replied that that argument was not enough to justify a virtual appearance.

The lawyers want a judge to approve $229 million in fees, or $10,690 an hour, according to a Sept. 8 filing in Delaware's Court of Chancery. The legal fee and the settlement must be approved by a Delaware judge at a hearing scheduled for October. The Telsa directors have not objected to the fee request but are expected to do so, according to a court filing by the plaintiffs' lawyers. In 2012, the Delaware Supreme Court affirmed a $304 million fee in a Southern Copper shareholder lawsuit involving $2 billion of damages. Hunter Biden will plead not guilty during his initial court appearance for three federal felony gun charges, his attorney said Tuesday as he denied that the son of President Joe Biden is asking for "special treatment" at his first court appearance in the case. Hunter's lawyer Abbe Lowell revealed that planned plea as he asked a judge to hold the court appearance by video conference instead of in person at U.S. District Court in Wilmington, Delaware. The court appearance has not yet been scheduled. Lowell wrote in Tuesday's letter that Biden was "not seeking any special treatment" by requesting the video conference for his first appearance in court on the charges. Lowell's letter called prosecutors' opposition "puzzling," arguing that he was making a "common-sense request in seeking a video appearance.

Hunter Biden plans to plead not guilty to three federal gun charges during an initial court appearance and is requesting to hold the hearing by videoconference instead of appearing in federal court in Wilmington, Del., his lawyer said in a filing on Tuesday. Mr. Biden, 53, was indicted last week by David C. Weiss, the special counsel overseeing the case, on two charges that he lied about his drug use to purchase a handgun in 2018 and on one charge of illegally possessing the weapon, which he had for less than two weeks. The not-guilty plea was expected. The decision to file criminal charges against Mr. Biden, the president’s troubled younger son, came after the collapse of a plea deal in July that would have resolved the long-running investigation without him serving prison time.
