TuesdayA quick-moving storm is bringing rain to parts of the East Coast while a few snowflakes fall around the Great Lakes. High elevation snow will bury areas from California’s Sierra Nevada to the Colorado Rockies while rain falls at lower elevations. Conditions will ease throughout the day for California and Nevada but sloppy weather will persist farther east, especially in Utah and Colorado. Dreary weather will extend from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast as the storm that formed late Wednesday pushes east. The Thanksgiving day storm will largely be out of the East by sunrise but lake-effect snow will start up for areas downwind of the Great Lakes as Arctic air rushes over the record-warm lakes.

Kohl's on Tuesday forecast a bigger drop in annual sales than previously expected, a sign the department-store chain is struggling to draw in shoppers as it navigates a CEO change ahead of a promotion-heavy holiday shopping season. "Our third-quarter results did not meet our expectations, as sales remained soft in our apparel and footwear businesses," Kingsbury said. The CEO's surprise departure comes as the company enters the critical holiday shopping period including Black Friday, one of the busiest times of the year for retailers and shoppers. It logged a decrease in comparable sales of 9.3% for the quarter ended Nov. 2, its eleventh consecutive quarter of decline. This is Kohl's third straight quarter with a lowered sales forecast.

London CNN —Russia expelled a British diplomat who worked at the embassy in Moscow Tuesday, accusing him of spying, marking the latest blow to the two countries’ worsening diplomatic relations. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) alleged that the British diplomat intentionally provided false information to enter the country as a cover for espionage work, “thereby violating Russian law,” according to state media TASS. The Russian Foreign Ministry subsequently revoked the diplomat’s diplomatic accreditation and ordered him to leave Russia within two weeks, TASS reported. Russia’s FSB claimed the diplomat was sent to Moscow to “replace” one of six alleged British intelligence officers that Russia expelled this summer. Meanwhile, Russia launched a “record” 188 drone attacks on Ukraine overnight, according to the Ukrainian Air Force on Tuesday.

Boggs, founder and CEO of D&S Executive Career Management, once had a candidate interviewing for a vice president-level role. Stories of job-seekers making progress on their search, only to have the rug pulled out from under them later in the hiring process, have become all too common. A majority of job-seekers say they've experienced "love-bombing" or been ghosted during the interview process for a new role, according to a recent survey of 2,900 global employees by Greenhouse, the hiring platform. A similar share, 52%, say they've been ghosted in the hiring process, or had initial conversations, and in some cases made it to final rounds of interviews, only to never hear back from the recruiter or hiring manager about a decision. According to the UNESCO study, 62% of surveyed creators said they don’t vet the accuracy of content before sharing it with their followers. The study comes in the wake of the 2024 US presidential election, in which social media influencers played a key role as an information source for voters. During the campaign, President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris harnessed social media influencers and podcasters with millions of followers, including Joe Rogan and Alex Cooper, to appeal directly to voters. And a separate survey from Pew found that more than half of American adults “at least sometimes” get their news from social media. Online influencers generally do not rely on official sources of information, such as government-issued reports and documents, the UNESCO study found.

Wall Street's celebration of President-elect Donald Trump's Treasury pick may be a tad premature. The market's resurgence following the Bessent announcement makes for calming copy, but is it the correct assessment of what's to come? It's true that Wall Street veteran Bessent has been a successful money manager. However, Bessent suggested that he is comfortable using tariffs as negotiations to " escalate to de-escalate " the risks of global trade imbalances. But little of what's been discussed about the Treasury Secretary pick supports the rather large rallies we've seen in both stocks and bond prices.
