Dreary weather will extend from the Gulf Coast to the Northeast as the storm that formed late Wednesday pushes east. Kohl's on Tuesday forecast a bigger drop in annual sales than previously expected, a sign the department-store chain is struggling to draw in shoppers as it navigates a CEO change ahead of a promotion-heavy holiday shopping season. "Our third-quarter results did not meet our expectations, as sales remained soft in our apparel and footwear businesses," Kingsbury said. The CEO's surprise departure comes as the company enters the critical holiday shopping period including Black Friday, one of the busiest times of the year for retailers and shoppers. London CNN —Russia expelled a British diplomat who worked at the embassy in Moscow Tuesday, accusing him of spying, marking the latest blow to the two countries’ worsening diplomatic relations. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) alleged that the British diplomat intentionally provided false information to enter the country as a cover for espionage work, “thereby violating Russian law,” according to state media TASS. The Russian Foreign Ministry subsequently revoked the diplomat’s diplomatic accreditation and ordered him to leave Russia within two weeks, TASS reported. Russia’s FSB claimed the diplomat was sent to Moscow to “replace” one of six alleged British intelligence officers that Russia expelled this summer. Meanwhile, Russia launched a “record” 188 drone attacks on Ukraine overnight, according to the Ukrainian Air Force on Tuesday.

The market's resurgence following the Bessent announcement makes for calming copy, but is it the correct assessment of what's to come? It's true that Wall Street veteran Bessent has been a successful money manager. However, Bessent suggested that he is comfortable using tariffs as negotiations to " escalate to de-escalate " the risks of global trade imbalances. But little of what's been discussed about the Treasury Secretary pick supports the rather large rallies we've seen in both stocks and bond prices.

Last Thanksgiving, I tried eight different biscuit mixes and doughs to see which was the tastiest. The original Pillsbury Biscuits and the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits came out on top. In time for the holidays last year, I tried Annie's Organic Flaky Biscuits, Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits, Trader Joe's Organic Biscuits, Immaculate Organic Biscuits, Happy Belly Jumbo Buttermilk Biscuits, and three different kinds from Pillsbury: its Original Flaky Layers, Grands! Southern Homestyle Southern Recipe, and Grands! Southern Homestyle Butter Tastin'.
