Ahead of its June WWDC event, Apple on Tuesday previewed a suite of accessibility features that will be coming "later this year" in its next big iPhone update. The new "Personal Voice" feature, expected as part of iOS 17, will let iPhones and iPads generate digital reproductions of a user's voice for in-person conversations and on phone, FaceTime and audio calls. Apple said Personal Voice will create a synthesized voice that sounds like a user and can be used to connect with family and friends. The feature is aimed at users who have conditions that can affect their speaking ability over time.
Oculus VR cofounder Palmer Luckey was full of praise for Apple's mixed-reality headset. Apple has been quiet on its next big thing at a time when its rivals are shifting to focus on AI. The original designer of Meta's VR offering, Oculus, says Apple's much-rumored rival metaverse headset is "so good." Oculus was acquired in 2014 by Facebook before the social-media company changed its corporate name to Meta. Apple has remained relatively quiet on AI by comparison, with Tim Cook emphasizing the need to be "deliberate and thoughtful."
Apple' s virtual reality headset will run with hundreds of thousands of iPad apps and take an all-encompassing approach to features, according to Bloomberg. In a bid to entice both developers and consumers, Apple has included gaming, fitness, and e-reader functionality for the virtual reality headset, Bloomberg reported. The headset will run most of Apple's flagship iPad apps, including Books, Camera, FaceTime, Maps and Messages. There are also hundreds of thousands of third-party iPad apps that will reportedly be compatible with the headset at launch. Apple's headset will reportedly cost a minimum of $3,000, three times as expensive as Meta 's high-end Quest Pro.
Apple CEO Tim Cook poses for a portrait next to a line of new MacBook Airs as he enters the Steve Jobs Theater during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California on June 6, 2022 . Apple CEO Tim Cook recently explained in an interview with GQ why people might want the sort of mixed reality headset his company is expected to announce in the coming months. In short: art, communication, "creative" applications, and corporate environments, Cook told GQ. "The idea that you could overlay the physical world with things from the digital world could greatly enhance people's communication, people's connection," Cook told GQ. Meta has struggled to find success with its virtual reality business, called Reality Labs.
Apple's widely anticipated mixed-reality headset may not be ready in time for the company's June WWDC event, top Apple analyst, TFI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo, wrote on Twitter Thursday. The Apple Watch was announced in Sept. 2014 but didn't launch until April 2015. Apple expects to sell at most 300,000 headsets in 2023, Kuo wrote. The best hope for Apple is that headset growth matches the trajectory of the Apple Watch, evolving from a "small portion" of the company's business into a "centerpiece," Gurman wrote. Kuo is regarded as one of the most accurate Apple analysts, and has reported on Apple's shifting approach to the launch of its long-awaited headsets.
Apple announced on Wednesday that its annual developer's conference, WWDC, will begin on June 5 and run through June 9. Apple holds a launch event led by CEO Tim Cook on the first day of the conference and typically unveils new iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Mac software. However, this year, Apple could reveal its long-awaited virtual and augmented reality headset at the conference, according to Bloomberg. The conference will be held online, with an in-person day at Apple's headquarters, Apple Park, on the first day of the conference. Last year, Apple invited developers and media to watch the pre-recorded opening presentation at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, called Apple Park.

March 29 (Reuters) - Apple Inc (AAPL.O) said on Wednesday it will host its annual developers' conference from June 5 to June 9, where the iPhone maker is expected to unveil its latest software updates. Analysts will also look for hints from Apple about the much-anticipated mixed-reality headset that can overlay digital objects on a view of the real world. For new devices, the company sometimes gives developers a heads-up so they can start working on apps. Prior to 2020, Apple hosted the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Jose, California, with thousands of developers and Apple employees in attendance. The company said it will host developers and students at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino, California on June 5 to watch the keynote and State of the Union videos along with the online attendees.

Apple will unveil its highly anticipated mixed-reality headset this spring, with consumer deliveries beginning in fall 2023, Bloomberg recently reported. Kuo also anticipated that Apple would announce its headset in the spring or at Apple's developer event in June. Bloomberg said on Sunday that Apple's anticipated headset would run on a new operating system, dubbed xrOS, and that Apple had already granted a select group of software developers access to the platform. Apple's software enables companies and developers to let users do anything from trying on glasses to model furniture purchases in their personal spaces.
Apple 's long-awaited mixed reality headset could be announced as soon as this spring, top Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said on Twitter recently. Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst at TF International, had initially predicted in June 2022 that Apple would announce a mixed-reality headset by the end of January 2023. Apple's headset is expected to cost between $2,000 and $3,000 and will boast over 10 cameras on the exterior and interior of the device, according to Bloomberg. The mixed-reality device will run on an operating system called xrOS, with mixed-reality adaptions of Apple's Messages, FaceTime, and Maps apps, according to Bloomberg. The Apple analyst also predicted the controversial loss of the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 series.
Apple CEO Tim Cook poses for a portrait next to a line of new MacBook Airs as he enters the Steve Jobs Theater during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California on June 6, 2022 . Apple CEO Tim Cook recently gave the closest thing to a confirmation that Apple's building a headset. Cook was asked in a recent interview with China Daily USA what he thinks the key factors are for augmented reality, or AR, to succeed in the consumer market. AR or "mixed reality" describes technology that superimposes computer-generated images over views of the real world, contrasted with virtual reality, or VR, which completely immerses the viewer in a computer-generated world. It's one of the clearest examples yet of Cook acknowledging that Apple has something bigger in the works.
Apple's new 13-inch MacBook Pro with the next-generation M2 chip goes on sale Friday, June 17, and will begin arriving to customers and in stores on June 24. It's the first computer to launch with the M2 chip, which was announced during Apple's developer conference, WWDC, earlier this month. The new MacBook Air will also feature an M2 chip, but a release date for that computer hasn't been announced yet. Still, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models can be configured with an M1 Pro or M1 Max chip and more storage, RAM, processing and graphics cores than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2, which means people who need even more power may be better off with those computers. Aside from the chip, the computer is otherwise largely unchanged from its predecessor.
