Mitch McConnell had long prided himself on maintaining GOP unity during his 17-year tenure as Senate GOP leader. Now they’ve spilled into public view as the Kentucky Republican heads into what could be his final year as leader. “We did what Donald Trump wanted.”With McConnell’s backing, the Senate is now taking a different approach. “Sen Cruz talks every day with his colleagues, and his conversations with fellow senators are confidential,” the Cruz spokesperson said. How damaging are all the renewed questions about age and mental acuity going to be? One Democratic member of the House responded to being told of the questions about age and memory raised in the report with a morbid laugh and sullen shake of the head. Inside the White House and among Biden’s reelection campaign staff, the tension is constant. Biden aides also feel themselves that this hasn’t been enough. LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nevada jury has awarded about $130 million in damages in a lawsuit filed by five people who suffered liver damage after drinking bottled water marketed by a Las Vegas-based company before the product was recalled from store shelves in 2021. Real Water attorney Joel Odou argued that the company was unintentionally negligent, not reckless, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The Southern Nevada Water Authority, the region's main public supplier, monitors and tests for 166 different possible contaminants, spokesman Bronson Mack said Thursday. Mack noted that the water authority was not a defendant in the lawsuits and said the area's municipal water supply meets or surpasses all federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards. Real Water was sold for at least eight years, primarily in Central and Southern California, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Utah.

Generative AI was the hot topic at the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. In 2024, the dominant conversation across all types of attendees was the impact and future of generative AI: specifically how to responsibly, creatively, and effectively use it across the organization. Generative AI requires a fundamentally different enterprise architecture. Take intentional actions to design, deploy, and use generative AI to drive value while protecting from risks, helping you close the gap on responsible AI. Generative AI will let marketers drive continuous reinvention and become even more critical to the business.

Watch CNN’s coverage of Senate GOP leadership and Donald Trump on ‘Inside Politics Sunday with Manu Raju’ at 11 a.m. Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell hasn’t spoken to Trump in more than three years and tries to avoid uttering his name in public. As Trump steamrolls to the nomination, there are ample questions in GOP circles about how – and whether – Trump can rebuild Senate alliances that were critical in his first term but are nonexistent now. But Mullin said that the next Senate GOP leader and Trump need to move past the bad blood if they take back the majority and the White House. As Norway’s higher education minister, Sandra Borch was responsible for making sure that students played by the rules. When one of those students was acquitted of the offense of plagiarism, Ms. Borch appealed, taking the case to the nation’s Supreme Court. So it shocked the country when, just a few days later, Ms. Borch had to resign after it emerged that parts of her master’s thesis seemed identical to other reports that she had not referenced. “When I wrote my master’s thesis around 10 years ago, I made a big mistake,” Ms. Borch said at a news conference on Friday, when she stepped down. “I took text from other assignments without stating the sources.”The person who uncovered Ms. Borch’s misdeeds was Kristoffer Rytterager, a 27-year-old student in Oslo, who said he got “a bit pissed” that the minister went after an individual student for what he considered a minor mistake, and decided to look into the minister’s own academic work.

Lopez Obrador denies his strategy has fed impunity, but said after the villagers' bloody takedown of extortionists in Texcapilla, some 75 miles (120 km) southwest of Mexico City, that Mexico must fight the problem. Security frequently tops polls of voters' chief concerns ahead of the June 2 presidential election to succeed Lopez Obrador, who under Mexican law cannot run again. The positive economic developments as well as Fed officials’ forecasts for at least three rate cuts this year had investors eying a March pivot. Meanwhile, Barkin — who will also be voting on Fed policy decisions at meetings this year — isn’t ruling March out entirely. For Barkin, “the breadth of inflation settling” and “the consistency of inflation settling” matter in his evaluation of whether the inflation rate is approaching the Fed’s target. Unlike many Fed officials, Barkin does not have a PhD in economics but has an MBA and a law degree.
