Reddit's CEO slammed Microsoft, Anthropic, and Perplexity for using the social platform's data for free. The three companies previously landed in trouble for training their AI models on data without permission. Paying for data could cost AI companies "hundreds of billions of dollars," Andreessen Horowitz said last year. Steve Huffman, the CEO of Reddit, has called out Microsoft, Anthropic, and Perplexity for using Reddit's data to train their AI models without paying. "We've had Microsoft, Anthropic, and Perplexity act as though all of the content on the internet is free for them to use," Huffman told The Verge, saying that blocking these companies has been "a real pain in the ass."

Shares of global semiconductor firms rallied on Wednesday as they were boosted by some positive earnings in the sector and a report of potentially less severe U.S. export restrictions on China. AMD was among the morning's big winners with shares up more than 9% in U.S. premarket trading after the company reported a top and bottom line beat in its second-quarter financial report. AMD saw strong growth in its data center business, driven by sales of its graphics processing units (GPUs) which are used to train artificial intelligence models. The strong set of numbers gave other U.S. chipmakers a boost including rival Nvidia , which was around 5% higher in premarket trading, and Qualcomm .

Taco Bell is set to expand the use of artificial intelligence voice technology in its drive-thrus to hundreds of US locations by the end of this year, parent company Yum! The move means that when users pull up to place their order at a Taco Bell, there’s a good chance they will be talking to a computer, rather than a human employee, on the other end. McDonald’s said last month it was pulling the plug on the AI ordering technology that it was testing at more than 100 US drive-thrus, after customers complained about the system getting their orders wrong. Brands, told CNN he’s confident that his company’s technology — which is already in use at 100 Taco Bell locations across 13 states — won’t have the same issues. Kim also denied that AI ordering technology would replace human jobs, a growing concern around all manner of new AI tools.

AdvertisementI think it's common for new college graduates to want to wait for their dream job or something they're passionate about to come along. That's not realistic and, in my experience, typically means their parents still have to support them. My dream job was to work for a popular Southern lifestyle magazine, but the job would have started as a six-month unpaid internship. Had my parents supported me through this, I wouldn't have become self-sufficient as quickly, and it wouldn't have set a great boundary. When South Sudan’s young basketball team took to the court for an exhibition game against America’s basketball royalty, there were few expectations that they could hold on against the likes of LeBron James and Stephen Curry. Then they lost by just one point, 101-100, stunning not only their loyal followers, but also the team’s players, who had grown up revering the N.B.A. The South Sudanese will face the United States again Wednesday, this time at the Paris Olympics, and with the Americans now on notice, the odds are distinctly against the African team. But for many of their fans in Africa and elsewhere, that is beside the point. Despite having no place of their own to train, the team won the only slot open to Africa for men’s basketball.

We’ve all encountered that person who comes back from the gym or a run seemingly high on life. In fact, scientists say that even a single bout of exercise can alter your neurochemistry in ways that create feelings of hope, calm, connection and a generally better mood. But for others, a workout just leaves them feeling worn out. And, they say, by making a few changes to your workout, you can train your body and mind to find exercise more pleasurable. But in recent decades, researchers have discovered a more complex cocktail of other key “feel-good” chemicals produced during movement.

Perplexity AI on Tuesday debuted a revenue-sharing model for publishers after more than a month of plagiarism accusations. Media outlets and content platforms including Fortune, Time, Entrepreneur, The Texas Tribune, Der Spiegel and WordPress.com are the first to join the company's "Publishers Program." Under the new partner program, any time a user asks a question and Perplexity generates advertising revenue from citing one of the publisher's articles in its answer, Perplexity will share a flat percentage of that revenue. "Some of it grew out of conversations we were having with publishers about integrating Perplexity APIs and technology into their products," Shevelenko said. But not all news organizations are gearing up for a fight, and some are instead joining forces with AI startups like OpenAI, Perplexity and others.

OpenAI set the tone with the release of GPT-4 and competitors have scrambled to catch up, with some coming pretty close. But will it be enough to set OpenAI — which is apparently hemorrhaging billions of dollars — apart from the increasingly impressive array of other AI models on offer?
