A "Buy Treasury bonds" poster is seen at a bank in Haian, East China's Jiangsu province, Aug 1, 2024. "We remain actively bullish," said a bond fund manager, undeterred by unprecedented government moves to cool the sizzling treasury market and arrest a plunge in yields, which move inversely to prices. Falling yields also complicate the People's Bank of China's (PBOC) efforts to stabilize the weakening yuan. Unlike the West, "China's financial markets, including the bond market, are subject to top-down regulation," said Ryan Yonk, economist with the American Institute for Economic Research. Late on Friday, the central bank said it will gradually increase the purchase and sale of treasury bonds in its open market operations.

The Mankato West Scarlets, who had started the 1999 high school football season with a miserable record of 2-4, had improbably swaggered into a state championship game. Their defense, though, would first have to repel the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets, who were from north of Minneapolis and trailed by a single touchdown. But inside the 10-yard line, a Scarlet defender intercepted the ball, effectively clinching a 35-28 victory and Mankato West’s first championship. A coach lifted Tim Walz, then the defensive coordinator and now the Democratic candidate for vice president, skyward. In Mr. Walz’s telling, the victory also eventually proved a launchpad for politics.

A Japanese 10,000 yen and a U.S. 100 dollar banknote juxtaposed against each other in Tokyo, Japan, on Monday, June 20, 2016. The yen dropped on Wednesday after an influential Bank of Japan official played down the chances of a near-term rate hike, soothing investors' concerns that a further jump in the Japanese currency could again rock global markets. The yen fell around 2.5% to a session low of 147.94 per dollar following the comments from BOJ Deputy Governor Shinichi Uchida. "I think it's become increasingly clear that the BOJ hawkish turn last week could be a policy error," said Alvin Tan, head of Asia FX strategy at RBC Capital Markets. The yen's decline was broad based, with the Mexican peso, New Zealand dollar and Australian dollar - all carry trade candidates - surging against the currency.

Get out of cash — that's what many on Wall Street have been saying since expectations of rate cuts started rising earlier this year. They're now doubling down on that call, with the U.S. Federal Reserve signaling that it would finally cut rates in September. That would make cash rates less attractive than other parts of fixed income. "An easier tack from the central bank is likely to buoy risk markets like high yield fixed income and other spread product, including structured products, investment grade corporates and emerging market debt," said Robert Tipp, chief investment strategist and head of global bonds at PGIM Fixed Income. "QAnon Shaman" Jacob Chansley will regain possession of the makeshift spear and horned helmet that he carried as he stormed the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot with other Trump supporters, a federal judge ruled Monday. "Since the government has not established that it still needs these items as evidence and has not sought their forfeiture, the Court will GRANT Mr. Chansley's motion," Lamberth wrote. The DOJ last month said it wanted to hold on to Chansley's property, because despite having expressed remorse at his criminal sentencing, he has since challenged his conviction and sentence. "Even if the government may need to reprove Mr. Chansley's guilt, the government has not explained why it would need his property," the judge wrote in Monday's order.
