Djokovic, who is seeking a 24th Grand Slam title to equal Margaret Court's record, will close out the evening session at Arthur Ashe Stadium when he faces fellow Serbian Laslo Djere, the 32nd seed. Top-ranked Americans Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe are also in action with both looking to bolster their hopes of becoming the first U.S. man to win a Grand Slam in 20 years. In the second round, a resurgent Wozniacki earned her first top-20 win in nearly five years with a straight-sets upset of 11th seed Petra Kvitova. "I've been feeling very comfortable here in New York in general," said former world number one Wozniacki.

After a 6-0 6-1 rout of Sweden's Rebecca Peterson in her opening match, Swiatek did not look as at ease as she was made to work for a 6-3 6-4 win over the 322nd-ranked Australian spark plug. Saville, who has only once before beaten a world number one, seven years ago against Angelique Kerber, got the match off to the best possible start breaking Swiatek at the first opportunity. They traded breaks a second time before Swiatek would get her third of the set and hold serve for a 1-0 lead. For Swiatek the win was another step towards defending her U.S. Open crown and keeping the number one world ranking. The 19-year-old Gauff said she took a more aggressive approach into her second meeting with Andreeva after having to rally back to beat the Russian in three sets at this year's French Open. Morning Bid: Cooler labor warms markets

Raindrops hang on a sign for Wall Street outside the New York Stock Exchange in Manhattan in New York City, New York, U.S., October 26, 2020. Stubborn inflation readings from Europe on Wednesday and hesitation around this week's China market rebound suggested the coast was far from clear despite worldwide stock and bond market rally in the previous session. Ebbing consumer confidence in August reinforced the message of slowing activity, however, and The Conference Board's so-called labor market differential, derived from respondents' views on whether jobs are plentiful or hard to get, narrowed by almost six points to 26.2% - its lowest since April 2021. China's stock markets also stalled after a two-day rally, with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo claiming on her three-day visit to the country that many U.S. firms now see China as "un-investable". But it seemed to draw a line under the stock market this week with a series of supports and the prospect of further cuts in lending, deposit and mortgage rates.

But with his clinical dissection of Balazs, he served notice that he remains a real threat to claim his second U.S. Open title in three years. "I don't care it is normal Carlos and Novak are the biggest names right now," said Medvedev when asked if he felt overlooked. The Australian could prove a much trickier test having forced Medvedev to go three tough sets earlier this year in Doha. After losing to eventual champion Alcaraz in the Wimbledon semi-finals, Medvedev has had a quiet U.S. Open buildup, getting to the quarter-finals of the Canadian Open and the round of 16 a week later in Cincinnati. But Medvedev has always produced some of his best work in New York, reaching the final in 2019, semi-finals in 2020 and winning it in 2021.

"It wasn't an easy match, she plays unbelievable and I'm not feeling my best today," Jabeur said in her on-court interview before the crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to her. While serving with a 4-3 lead Jabeur told the chair umpire she was having trouble breathing and then went on to lose the game as Osorio broke to get the match back on serve. A determined Jabeur dug deep and won three consecutive games to wrap up the opening frame in 59 minutes before leaving the Louis Armstrong Stadium court. The Chinese electric vehicle-maker forecast revenue of 8.5 billion yuan to 9 billion yuan for the current quarter ending September, below estimates of 9.77 billion yuan ($1.34 billion), according to the average estimate of six analysts by Refinitiv. The forecast underscores weak demand in China and intense competition following price cuts unleashed by Tesla (TSLA.O) and other home-grown automakers. In the second quarter ended June 30, Xpeng's revenue decreased 32% to 5.06 billion yuan, in line with estimates.
