Meats and fishBeef, chicken and fish are great for protein, and they can double as rich sources of choline. Beef liver is one of the highest available food sources of choline, which makes sense, as the liver is the organ that produces choline. Blackened cod is a great choice for delicious and easy fish tacos. EggsEggs are the second highest food source of choline after beef liver, providing 147 milligrams per one large egg. BERKELEY, California, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Meghan Holst studies the broadnose sevengill shark, so she was naturally concerned when record-setting rain this year altered the shark's nursery grounds in San Francisco Bay. Next, perhaps, will come California Fish and Game Commission protections for the sharks in San Francisco Bay, which she considers a nursing and pupping ground for a species believed to be in decline. San Francisco Bay is one of the world's only known year-round nurseries for the species, Holst said, making the habitat critical to monitor. Early in Hulu’s “The Other Black Girl,” Nella (Sinclair Daniel), an editorial assistant at the august and very white publishing company Wagner Books, is delighted to meet Hazel (Ashleigh Murray), the new hire to whom the title refers. She’s talking publishing, but she could be talking TV as well. So it’s fitting that “The Other Black Girl” isn’t alone. It’s one of two ambitious new series about young Black culture workers, in different countries and with different goals, dealing with the tension between representing one’s people and representing one’s self. The British import “Dreaming Whilst Black,” on Showtime, follows the aspiring filmmaker Kwabena (Adjani Salmon, who cocreated the series and the web comedy it is adapted from).

The red king crab fishery was closed; the snow crab fishery cut to a tenth of the previous year's take. After another bad survey last year, the red king crab fishery closed again and the snow crab fishery closed for the first time ever. Kevin Abena, who runs a fishing business with his father, also relies on tendering to stay afloat in the wake of the crab fishery closure. Researchers this year brought samples of crab back to Kodiak for further analysis, exploring how snow crab respond to stress in their environment, including rising heat. It will help determine what crab fisheries might open this winter and decisions on each kind of crab are expected some time in early October.

The salmon were once so plentiful in the river that old-timers talk about having been able to cross on the backs of fish so thick they were like steppingstones. Such was the renown of the Cowichan River, flowing east on Canada’s Vancouver Island, that its fly-fishing conditions were posted in fishing clubs in London. Local scientists suspect the bigger culprit is climate change, which has contributed to the decline of salmon populations in British Columbia by increasing droughts and heat waves. In a summer of global catastrophes for Canada, climate change has been felt across this vast country — from Cowichan Valley on the Pacific Coast to Halifax on the Atlantic, from the long border with the United States to the remotest towns above the Arctic Circle. But if the world has been consumed with the fires raging across Canada’s forests, turned into tinderboxes from the effects of climate change, the plight of the river has hit close to home in Cowichan Valley.

I’m always trying to eat more fish, but fish doesn’t always make it easy. Or the fish I wanted has sold out, and now I have to figure out if my salmon recipe will work with tilapia. Or — the most likely scenario — I just didn’t make it to the fish counter and now need a way to make frozen fillets sing. So I understand why Yewande Komolafe’s coconut fish and tomato bake has over 4,000 reviews and a five-star rating: It’s flexible, forgiving and incredibly flavorful. With that sweet-spicy coconut sauce and plenty of lime to punch everything up, this recipe makes even those frozen fillets taste fantastic.

CNN —A novel trial that has been described as “the last roll of the dice” for a generation of HIV vaccines has entered its latter stages. Nearly 40 years since HIV was identified as the cause of AIDS, and 36 years since the first HIV vaccine trial, the medical community still does not have a working vaccine. But that is not necessarily why they were chosen to participate, said Eugene Ruzagira, PrEPVacc trial director. Evaluating the combination of a trial HIV vaccine and PrEP is a first, say organizers. “I did my very first HIV vaccine trial in 1991,” recalled Weber.

California Rolls for a Crowd

For years, my party go-to has been Sheldon Simeon’s pan sushi dynamite, a recipe from his excellent cookbook, “Cook Real Hawai’i.” Pan sushi — or sushi bake — never fails to delight. It’s a generous sheet of sushi rice topped with fish that has been baked just long enough to marry with its sauce, placed on the table with palm-size squares of nori for D.I.Y. Naz’s recipe has the same sushi-casserole heart, but with California roll vibes. Imitation crab is mixed with cream cheese, mayo and Sriracha, baked on vinegary sushi rice, showered with furikake and topped with sliced cucumber and avocado. Naz notes that you can use canned tuna or salmon (or, indeed, real crab) instead; I can confidently confirm that sushi bake is a great use of canned salmon.

The Secret to the Greenest Pesto

Until very recently, the Nickelodeon-green, almost teal pesto was a total mystery to me, a recipe I tried to replicate for years to no avail. But it’s the key to this dish, the most striking feature of an otherwise ordinary seafood pasta. But the pesto at Da Andrea is always shiny velvet, a shade of green that feels as if you’ve blended neon Chicago-dog relish into cream. Without the nuts, the pesto was pure basil, its floral aroma buoyed by an unbreakable emulsion of liquid and fat. If the pesto is the galaxy of this pasta, then the perfectly cooked seafood pieces are its brightest stars.

Summary British Columbia declares state of emergency after wildfiresFlames have led to evacuation orders for more than 35,000 peopleAQI of some British Columbia cities at 'hazardous' levelsREVELSTOKE, British Columbia, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Canada is sending the military to tackle fast-spreading wildfires in British Columbia, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Sunday, as the western province deals with flames that have led to evacuation orders for more than 35,000 people. In some cities in British Columbia, the air quality index (AQI), which measures major pollutants including particulate matter produced by fires, was above 350, a "hazardous" level, IQAir, a real-time air quality information platform showed. West Kelowna fire chief Jason Brolund said he saw some hope after battling "epic" fires for the past four days. Since 2009, Canada has been spending more on fighting and suppressing wildfires than on maintaining its firefighting personnel and program. In British Columbia, the TransCanada highway was closed near Chase, about 400 km (250 miles) northeast of Vancouver.

Meanwhile, Segall argues against the authors’ claim that the amendment’s provisions are “self-executing,” that they can be applied to Trump or any other supposed insurrectionist immediately. This is acknowledged by Baude and Paulsen, to be sure, who argue at length that Chase was wrong. It should not happen, it would not work if it did happen, John Roberts and four more justices would not uphold it, and it would license political chaos to no good purpose whatsoever. And if the legal theorist’s response is that this isn’t the “best” way to deal with Trump, it’s just the way that the Constitution requires, then so much the worse for their theory of the Constitution. There is an irony here, which is that a similar kind of legal mentality influenced Trump’s campaign to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

From the rainbow-hued pearl lobsters of Indonesia and the baby eels of Spain to the giant Copper River king salmon of Alaska and Nigeria's cod stockfish, dried thousands of miles away in the cold winds of Norway, we uncovered the stories behind six of the world's most expensive kinds of seafood. Our first stop is on the northeast coast of the US, where fishers in Maine can find the greatest quantities of American lobster. From there, they can sell to popular restaurants in New York City that charge over $30 for a fresh 4-ounce lobster roll. So, what made this crustacean go from prison food to a well-known delicacy? And why are lobsters so expensive?

CNN —A massive, out-of-control fire burning across both California and Nevada is generating extreme fire behavior, spawning “fire whirls” and creating dangerous conditions for firefighters, authorities said. Tired after eating? Here’s why, and how to fix it

The tendency to get tired after eating isn’t inherently suggestive of something amiss. If you had a meal high in fat — such as fried foods or pizza — that could make you feel tired. “That can really be an energy zapper.”Just like high-sugar foods, sugary drinks can also make you feel tired once the crash hits, Stefanski said. Choosing more balanced meals and snacks can help you feel less tired after eating, experts said.
