Most campaigns will focus on discounts to customers or showcase the usefulness of a company’s products, he said. Under this form of marketing, ad firms generally get paid upon completion of a desired end, such as a sale or download. Found Norway shipwreck could be up to 700 years old

CNN —Resting at the bottom of Mjøsa, the largest lake in Norway, a shipwreck from hundreds of years ago is in almost perfect condition, frozen in time. The lake is a source of drinking water for about 100,000 people in Norway, according to the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, so the munitions posed health risks. Since the shipwreck was found in the middle of the lake, Ødegård believed the ship had gone down in bad weather. It’s most likely that the ship used square-shaped sails, he added, that proved to be difficult to navigate for seafarers caught in extremely windy conditions. The nearly 2,200-year-old shipwreck was relatively well preserved for being thousands of years old.

REUTERS/Yoruk IsikCompanies Ingosstrakh SPAO FollowLONDON, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Western officials are in talks with Turkish counterparts to resolve oil tanker queues off Turkey, a British Treasury official said, after the G7 and European Union rolled out new restrictions on Dec. 5 aimed at Russian oil exports. "The UK, U.S. and EU are working closely with the Turkish government and the shipping and insurance industries to clarify the implementation of the Oil Price Cap and reach a resolution," the official told Reuters. At least 20 oil tankers continue to face delays to cross from Russia's Black Sea ports to the Mediterranean as operators race to adhere to the Turkish rules. "The (insurers) have agreed that they cannot and should not issue such a letter," UK P&I said in a statement on its website.

REUTERS/Yoruk Isik/File PhotoMOSCOW, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Russia is concerned about a build-up of oil tankers in the Bosphorus Strait and is discussing the issue with insurance and transport companies, RIA cited Russian deputy foreign minister Alexander Grushko as saying on Wednesday. After all, insurance companies insure, not the state," Grushko is quoted as saying. The European Union banned all seaborne Russian crude imports from Dec. 5, with a fuel import ban to follow in February. Kazakhstan, a large oil exporter, said on Wednesday that the build-up of the oil tankers at the Bosphorus is normal during the winter season.

Sereno and his team returned to their work with Spinosaurus in search of answers about what life had really been like for the fearsome dinosaur. James GurneyNext, the team turned to Spinosaurus’ tail. Dr. Frank Fish, tail mechanics expert and professor of biology at West Chester University of Pennsylvania, took the lead. Fish compared the Spinosaurus tail with those of alligators and other reptiles and found the dinosaur would have been too rigid to function well underwater. Spinosaurus fossils have largely been found in the riverbank deposits of Niger’s inland basins, which are distant from prehistoric marine coastlines.
What’s happening: Americans appear to be indulging in a healthy dose of retail therapy despite stubbornly high inflation and the possibility of a recession ahead. Consumer spending is a major driver of the economy, and the last two months of the year can account for about 20% of total retail sales — even more for some retailers, according to NRF. But when the Federal Reserve is actively trying to squash high inflation rates, they risk becoming a fly in the ointment. “Consumers’ spending is more or less unfazed not only by high inflation, but also the rate hikes intended to get prices under control,” economists at Wells Fargo wrote. The high rate of spending could agitate investors in this good-news-is-bad-news economy because it adds to inflationary pressures.
As demand fades in the housing market, price cuts have become widespread. However, despite more sellers cutting asking prices, home prices have still increased by 10.6% year-over-year. On an annual basis, Fannie Mae says house price growth will turn negative beginning in the second-quarter of 2023. According to Freddie Mac's Sam Khater, house price growth will average 6.7% in 2022 and then decline by 0.2% in 2023. With inventory levels at all-time lows, he believes supply and demand dynamics will give way to significant price declines nationwide.
Minneapolis CNN Business —US consumer confidence fell in November as inflation and economic uncertainty continued to loom large and potentially dampen holiday shopping plans. The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index measured 100.2 for the month, lower than the downwardly revised 102.2 in October. The index is at its lowest level since July, when it fell to 95.7 amid spiking gas prices and worsening inflation. “If we had a combination of higher prices and higher unemployment at the same time, I think we’d be seeing a very different consumer than what we see right now,” he said. While consumer confidence has fallen, it still remains relatively resilient; but it is unlikely to last, said Chris Rupkey, chief economist of FwdBonds LLC, in a note on Tuesday.
The dollar has run into a brick wall in November, a potentially hopeful sign for multinational Club stocks that have seen their earnings dented because of the U.S. currency's strength this year. The U.S. dollar index (DXY) has declined more than 5% to around the 107 level since settling at nearly 113 on Nov. 3. However, the dollar index, which measures against six other currencies including the Japanese yen and the euro, is still up more than 10% compared with this time in 2021. Even though currency considerations don't factor into our long-term investment theses , the strong dollar has been a thorn in the side of many Club stocks in 2022. But it's important to understand near-term dynamics because we've seen how the strong U.S. dollar has pinched profits at Club stocks like P & G, Apple (AAPL), Salesforce (CRM) and more.

Italy’s Meloni will dodge EU collision on budget

MILAN, Nov 21 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Rightist Italian premier Giorgia Meloni will avoid a fiscal row with Brussels. Her first ever draft budget, to be discussed on Monday, targets a deficit of 4.5% of GDP in 2023. The bulk of Italy’s extra borrowing will go to fight the energy crisis, which has cost Rome 75 billion euros this year. Both measures are nowhere near the outlandish promises Meloni and her allies made before the elections. Rome will also limit the budget impact by cutting a popular welfare scheme by perhaps 1 billion euros and by extending a windfall tax for energy companies.
Messy money manager merger goes from bad to worse

MELBOURNE, Nov 21 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Rob Adams must be wishing he could turn the clock back eight months. That’s when the boss of Australian fund management icon Perpetual (PPT.AX) was readying his first tilt for rival Pendal (PDL.AX). Whatever lies behind Paul Skamvougeras’ decision to quit as Perpetual’s Head of Equities, losing a key executive right on the eve of a merger is awkward. And shareholders remain unconvinced the Pendal deal is a certainty as its stock trades 11% below the offer price. They do not reflect the views of Reuters News, which, under the Trust Principles, is committed to integrity, independence, and freedom from bias.
BHP’s shinier $6 bln OZ bid stays within reality

MELBOURNE, Nov 18 (Reuters Breakingviews) - BHP (BHP.AX) boss Mike Henry’s apparent nonchalance about buying OZ Minerals (OZL.AX) always smacked of play-acting. No sooner had the metals miner rejected its larger rival’s A$8.3 billion ($5.8 billion) all-cash overture in August than Henry was fobbing it off as a “nice-to-have, not a must-have” business. Yet on Friday, the target disclosed BHP recently upped its offer 13%, and says it will agree in principle to the revised bid. Henry is now dangling a 49% premium to OZ’s undisturbed share price. Cutting around a third of OZ’s annual expenses would, taxed and capitalised, cover the A$3.1 billion premium.
Rio swaps wild goose chase for white-knuckle ride

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, Nov 18 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Rio Tinto’s (RIO.L) tortuous quest to buy out minorities in Turquoise Hill Resources (TRQ.TO) just got even worse. Now a side deal to remove Pentwater Capital Management and SailingStone Capital Partners from the deciding vote has fallen apart. Rio needs Turquoise Hill, which controls two-thirds of Mongolian mega-mine Oyu Tolgoi, to ensure a tighter grip on one of its key growth projects. But to win the vote it needs a simple majority of the minorities, and Pentwater and SailingStone have over 30% already. Hence the attempted side deal, which would have outsourced the valuation of the two minorities’ stakes to an arbitration process.
Ticketmaster shares spotlight with Taylor Swift

NEW YORK, Nov 18 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Ticketmaster has a pretty bad seat for the Taylor Swift show. It also risks tempting Swift to turn the spotlight on Ticketmaster. In 2010, U.S. trustbusters allowed Ticketmaster to merge with Live Nation and create one of the largest event businesses in the world. Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen tried unsuccessfully to weaken Ticketmaster, but Swift might be able to move the needle. Taylor Swift and Uncle Sam would be a formidable duo.
China reopening hope puts wind in Alibaba sails

Just ask China's $220 billion e-commerce giant Alibaba (9988.HK), whose New York stock has rallied by a third this month despite tepid performance from its annual Singles Day shopping festival and so-so quarterly results. Revenue from the domestic commerce unit, accounting for nearly two-thirds of Alibaba's top line, fell 1% year-on-year, to $19 billion. Boss Daniel Zhang's cost cuts are paying off, though: the overall adjusted EBITDA margin improved three percentage points to 21%. Zhang's messaging on China's gradual reopening probably resonated with investors more. Shares of Alibaba, rivals JD.com (9618.HK) and Pinduoduo (PDD.O) and other Chinese stocks jumped, too.
"The softer inflation data took some wind out of the dollar's sails," said Joe Manimbo, senior market analyst at Convera in Washington. "The dollar is steadier because we're having this residual, geopolitical skittishness as well as signs of a fairly sturdy U.S. economic backbone in the forms of U.S. retail sales." Retail sales rose 1.3% in October, more than the 1.0% increase that economists polled by Reuters had forecast. The dollar briefly pared losses on release of the retail sales data, but later fell against the euro to trade little changed against major currencies. Yields fell further on the market's benign inflation outlook.
After the GOP underperformed, some Republicans are saying it's time to move on from Trump. Ron DeSantis handily won reelection in a state that has long been considered a swing state, defeating Democrat Charlie Crist with a roughly 20-point lead as of Wednesday. The drastic difference has already led Republicans to turn to DeSantis for 2024 hopes, a prospect that now seems all the more likely. But one of the biggest blows to the GOP, and Trump, came in Pennsylvania, where Lt. Gov. Some were already propping up DeSantis as the best choice for the 2024 Republican presidential nominee.
Republican victory paves road to softer dollar

Early results show key victories for Republican candidates in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee on Tuesday, pushing favor to the conservative party in the House. That means Republicans can block any spending bills that Biden might have otherwise been inclined to push through. Once hints of a shift emerge, markets will quickly pivot from the U.S. dollar, which has become a safe haven, back to riskier assets. But if they don’t, and Republicans hold the line, the U.S. could come dangerously close to default. The elections come after the U.S. dollar has increased 14% year-to-date versus a basket of currencies.
Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter has put fresh wind in the sails of dogecoin, the meme cryptocurrency he catapulted to fame. It was trading at about $0.07 on Oct. 27 before Musk tweeted "the bird is freed" to announce his ownership. Not bad for a coin that was created as a "joke" satirizing wild speculation in the crypto market and named after an internet meme of a Shiba Inu dog. Its share of the $1 trillion global crypto market cap through the year until the end of October was 1%, a fraction of bitcoin's 39%, according to CoinMarketCap. Bets that Musk may allow crypto payments with dog tokens were kindled by his tweet last week of a picture of the Shiba Inu dog wearing a Twitter T-shirt.

A new concern, Harlemert said, is the impact rising interest rates are having on people's pensions. The value of a pension is based, in part, on current interest rates, he explained. For the last 10 years, he said, they've seen their pensions mostly rise in value as interest rates have remained at historic lows.
