Around the dinner table in the early 2000s, David Katzman would quiz his kids about their dream startups. ModelFit employees told BI that Gelband used the Pelvicore Pro only with the permission of its creator, the physical therapist Christina Christie. Once, in October 2018, David Katzman met with Facebook's ad team to discuss SDC's before-and-after advertisements, which violated the tech company's policies. SDC employees worked on Pvolve marketing campaigns, and Pvolve employees took trips on David Katzman's jet. "He didn't come from anything, and he spent years and years building up the business," the person close to Pasterino told BI.

For all of the focus on an energy transition, the American oil industry is booming, extracting more crude than ever from the shale rock that runs beneath the ground in West Texas. The stocks of some oil and gas companies, such as Exxon Mobil and Diamondback Energy, are at or near record levels. The industry’s revival after bruising losses during the Covid-19 pandemic is due largely to market forces, though Russia’s war in Ukraine has helped. U.S. oil prices have averaged around $80 a barrel since early 2021, compared with roughly $53 in the four years before that. That the price and demand for oil have been so strong suggests that the shift to renewable energy and electric vehicles will take longer and be more bumpy than some climate activists and world leaders once hoped.

U.S. President Joe Biden delivers remarks following the incident that occurred at a campaign rally for former U.S. President Donald Trump, in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, U.S., July 13, 2024. President Joe Biden said he should not have used the language, "put Trump in the bullseye," a remark he made to donors in a private call days before the attempted assassination of Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally. "It was a mistake to use the word," Biden said, according to excerpts of a Monday interview with NBC News' Lester Holt. "Look, I have not engaged in that rhetoric," Biden said. The Monday interview comes as Biden works to rehabilitate his political image following his disastrous debate performance against Trump in June.

Editor's note: This is a developing story and will be updated throughout the day. The Secret Service is under growing pressure to explain what went wrong in the hours and minutes before a gunman opened fire in an attempted assassination on former President Donald Trump at his Pennsylvania rally on Saturday. "The Secret Service is working with all involved federal, state and local agencies to understand what happened, how it happened, and how we can prevent an incident like this from ever taking place again," Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle said in a statement Monday. The Secret Service is not substantially changing its security plan for the Republican National Convention, which kicks off Monday, Cheatle said, despite the Saturday shooting. "I am confident in the security plan our Secret Service RNC coordinator and our partners have put in place, which we have reviewed and strengthened in the wake of Saturday's shooting," Cheatle said.

On Friday, he went to a shooting range where he was a member, and practiced firing, a law enforcement official told CNN. Yet nearly 48 hours after the shooting, investigators are struck by the lack of leads they’re finding about Crooks’ mindset and possible motives. Investigators parsing through his online search history haven’t found any indication of him researching how to make home-made explosives, law enforcement officials said. While investigators had hoped that breakthough would help them understand what drove him to attempt to assassinate Trump, they’re still struggling to make sense of it, law enforcement officials said. But they didn’t seem to know much about what was going on in his life recently, law enforcement sources said.

The paintings had been at the center of a gender battle that broke out after a man from the Australian state of New South Wales took legal action against the gallery after being refused entry to the museum's "Ladies Lounge" exhibition. The exhibition contained some of the museum's most notable artworks, including some said to have been produced by the Spanish Cubist Pablo Picasso. "I knew of a number of Picasso paintings I could borrow from friends, but none of them were green and I wished for the Lounge to be monochrome. The forgery prompted a reevaluation of other works displayed in the Ladies Lounge, and Kaechele revealed that some other items were also not genuine.

Marathon Oil agreed to spend $241.5 million to resolve federal allegations that it unlawfully emitted methane, a planet-warming greenhouse gas, and other pollutants from oil and gas facilities in North Dakota. Under the proposed settlement announced on Thursday, the oil and gas producer, based in Houston, would pay a $64.5 million civil penalty. The federal government said it was the largest-ever fine for alleged violations of the Clean Air Act that took place at stationary infrastructure. The settlement is part of a wider effort by the E.P.A. to rein in greenhouse gas emissions at oil and gas facilities.

A majority of economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal said former President Donald Trump's policies would be more likely to reignite inflation than President Joe Biden's would. Eight of the economists in the WSJ survey said inflation would be worse under Biden than Trump. Meanwhile, the several economists who saw Biden as the bigger inflation threat cited large spending packages. Still, 51% of economists in the WSJ survey estimate that federal deficits will rise more under Trump, who has proposed making his first-term tax cuts permanent. Meanwhile, 22% of economists think the same for Biden, in part citing Democrats' historically higher support for government spending.

The independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. privately apologized last week to a woman who accused him of sexual assault in a recent magazine article, The Washington Post reported on Friday. In an article in Vanity Fair last week, she said Mr. Kennedy made unwanted sexual advances toward her while she was at his family home in the late 1990s, including by groping her in a pantry. Ms. Cooney told The Post that Mr. Kennedy had called her twice on July 3 of this year, after the Vanity Fair article had run, and then sent her two text messages, which she also showed to The New York Times. “I hope you are well,” he wrote in the first message. “Please call me if you have a moment.”In the second, sent shortly after midnight, he wrote: “I read your description of an episode in which I touched you in an unwanted manner.

Anne White was banned from wearing a white catsuit at Wimbledon four decades before Serena Williams caused a stir with a similar cut at the French Open. Ian Kington/AFP/Getty ImagesAt the US, French and Australian Open, players have challenged definitions of what tennis clothes can be thanks to looser rules (subject to referee opinion). Though she cited its circulation benefits following a severe blood-clot scare with the birth of her child, the French Open said it would bar the style in the future. However, the Women’s Tennis Association formally allowed it, and Williams continued to wear versions of the bodysuit at the 2019 and 2021 Australian Opens, normalizing the agile and simplified cut for the tennis court.

U.S. President Joe Biden speaks at a press conference during NATO's 75th anniversary summit, in Washington, U.S., July 11, 2024. President Joe Biden on Thursday mistakenly referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as "Vice President Trump" in the opening question of his highly-anticipated solo press conference in Washington. "Look, I wouldn't have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president [if] I think she's not qualified to be president," Biden said, confusing his second-in-command with his November election opponent, former President Donald Trump. Following his bungled debate performance against former President Donald Trump on June 27, Biden came into this press conference on a mission: Prove to the public that he can handle tough questions in an unscripted environment. Earlier Thursday evening, Biden added salt to his political wounds at a scripted NATO event honoring Ukraine where he accidentally introduced Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as "President Putin."
