In a report aired on Sunday, the broadcaster spoke to wolfberry farmers and merchants in a region spanning 14 towns in Jingyuan County, Gansu Province. Sodium metabisulfite is sometimes used in food preservation but is prohibited in the local wolfberry industry, state media reported. The practice had become so common that workers spoke of it as an industry standard, the outlet reported. Since his early days as China's top leader, Xi Jinping has promised to crack down on food safety breaches, saying they're central to how people perceive the government. Allegations of excessive sulfur fumigation in the Chinese traditional-medicine industry have surfaced before, leading retailers to often sell wolfberries and other products as "sulfite-free."

"Well, look, I think you have insurance companies that obviously are forced to cover a whole host of services," Vance replied. Trump had unveiled the IVF policy in broad strokes during a campaign event in Michigan a day earlier. IVF, Trump and abortionTrump's embrace of IVF as a policy platform is the former president's latest effort to court voters concerned about women's reproductive rights. Trump, in turn, urged the state to find a solution that would "preserve the availability of IVF in Alabama." In Friday's CNN interview, Vance was asked how Trump's new federally mandated IVF funding plan would work if a state chose to ban the procedure.

Lobster fishing is a game of inches, and the number of inches is about to change. Fishing regulators are instituting a new rule that lobster fishermen must abide by stricter minimum sizes for crustaceans they harvest. The changes do not apply in Canada, which has an even larger lobster fishing industry than the U.S. Some scientists who study the fishery have supported the minimum size change. But the lobster industry sees a different story, said Patrice McCarron, executive director of the Maine Lobstermen’s Association, the oldest and largest fishing industry association on the East Coast.

About 1 in 7 women ages 18 to 49 say they have had an abortion, the KFF survey found. And the experience was similarly common among women across the political spectrum; about 14% of Democratic women and 12% of Republican women say they have had an abortion. But about two-thirds of women of reproductive age worry that abortion bans could affect the safety of a potential future pregnancy for them or someone close to them, or threaten their livelihood if an abortion is needed. More than 7 in 10 women in both states say that abortion should be legal in all or most cases, according to KFF survey data. Most women of reproductive age in the US – including more than 4 in 10 Republicans – support a nationwide right to abortion and oppose letting states determine the legality of abortion, the new survey data finds.

AdvertisementThose moves show just how rapidly the cable TV business is unraveling. WBD's direct-to-consumer segment still loses money, and its streaming revenue actually declined 6% from last year — even though Max added 3.7 million subscribers. WBD added 3.9 million streaming subscribers abroad last quarter, thanks to its rollout across Europe ahead of the Olympics, which the company broadcasts outside the US. If that service attracts enough cord-cutters, it could help stop the bleeding in WBD's fast-declining pay TV business in a best-case scenario. DENVER — Former Colorado clerk Tina Peters, the first local election official to be charged with a security breach after the 2020 election as unfounded conspiracy theories swirled, was found guilty by a jury on most charges Monday. Peters, a one-time hero to election deniers, was accused of using someone else’s security badge to give an expert affiliated with My Pillow chief executive Mike Lindell access to the Mesa County election system and deceiving other officials about that person’s identity. Lindell is a prominent promoter of false claims that voting machines were manipulated to steal the election from Donald Trump. Peters stood next to one of her attorneys at the defense table as the verdict was read in a quiet courtroom. In a post on the social media platform X after the verdict, Peters accused Colorado-based Dominion Voting Systems, which made her county’s election system, as well as lawyers for state election officials of stealing votes.

Well-being and cognitive declineMore research is needed due to the lack of diversity in this study, which also includes the fact that participants were volunteers from communities with higher levels of education, the study authors said. It’s possible that poor well-being may lead to cognitive impairment and vice versa. On one hand, greater well-being may lower risk for cognitive impairment and dementia by mitigating the effects of Alzheimer’s disease processes on cognition, the authors said. Positive well-being has been associated with lower levels of inflammatory cytokines and lower cardiovascular risk, which can reduce risk of cognitive impairments. Compared with participants who remained cognitively intact, those who developed cognitive impairment were more likely to be older and have lower body mass index (BMI) and lower psychological well-being.

WASHINGTON — The hard-right Freedom Caucus is pushing House Republican leaders to condition government funding on passage of new proof-of-citizenship requirements to vote and create a new deadline that faces broad Senate opposition. If GOP leaders attached it to government funding, it would spark a standoff with Democrats and President Joe Biden that risks a government shutdown. House and Senate Democrats favor a late 2024 deadline. Senate Appropriations Chair Patty Murray, D-Wash., said the Freedom Caucus demands amount to “outrageous partisan pills” that are a “nonstarter,” calling for a bipartisan approach. “The House will continue its successful effort to responsibly fund the government for FY25 when it returns from its district work period.”

Deere (DE) , headquartered in Moline, Illinois, manufactures agricultural machinery, heavy equipment, forestry machinery, diesel engines, and related components. One of the oldest companies in the United States, Deere traces its history back to John Deere's "self-scouring plow" in 1837. However, even assuming 50 bushels per acre and a $5/bushel average price increase, the revenue per acre would have risen by ~$250/acre. However, while Deere & Company stock has underperformed the S & P this year, its enterprise value is nearly $100 Billion, almost double the company's valuation in January 2020, just before the pandemic. Unsurprisingly, DE options are pricing in a larger-than-average 6% move when the company reports earnings on Thursday.

But Trump's renewed feud with Kemp illustrates how, at any moment, the former president can harm his own standing. Female athletes of color have historically faced disproportionate scrutiny and discrimination when it comes to sex testing and false accusations that they are male or transgender. Since the Tokyo Games in 2021, track’s World Athletics tightened the eligibility rules for female athletes with DSD conditions.
