CNN —A golden bikini costume worn by Carrie Fisher on the set of “Return of the Jedi” has sold at auction for $175,000. Worn by Princess Leia after she is captured by Jabba the Hutt and forced into slavery, the costume has become a cult favorite among “Star Wars” fans. Dallas-based Heritage Auctions, which hosted the sale, described it as being “among the most memorable” outfits in the franchise’s history. “George (Lucas) said, ‘We want to show that Princess Leia is growing up,’” recalled Miller, who died in 2022 aged 80. Tensions were running high on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border on Monday in anticipation of an escalation in hostilities, after Israel’s security cabinet authorized its leaders to decide on the nature and timing of an Israeli military response to a deadly rocket attack from Lebanon last weekend. The Israeli military said overnight that its aerial defense systems successfully intercepted an unmanned aircraft that crossed from Lebanon into northwestern Israel. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on those attacks. Hezbollah has denied responsibility for the rocket attack Saturday that struck a soccer field in Majdal Shams. But the Israeli military said the type of rocket used in the attack is Iranian-made and carries more than 50 kilograms (110 pounds) of explosives.

Britain’s Labour government said it was making “difficult decisions” concerning the budget, including cutting some road and rail projects and pension benefits, after accusing its predecessor, the Conservative Party, of leaving the country’s finances in a mess. Rachel Reeves, the chancellor of the Exchequer, said on Monday that there was a hole of 22 billion pounds (about $28 billion) in the country’s coffers this year because spending needs had exceeded expected revenue. Ms. Reeves accused the Conservative Party of making spending commitments on plans such as road repairs and building new hospitals “knowing the money wasn’t there.” Some of those plans would scrapped or reviewed. “The scale of this overspend is not sustainable,” Ms. Reeves told lawmakers in Parliament. She will present a full budget to lawmakers at the end of October.

With billions at stake, that's pretty much been a guarantee facing the current market leaders, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk , from the start. Their updates are likely to be joined by others in the coming months even as today's incumbents develop their own next-generation weight loss treatments. Other analysts have also grown more optimistic about the future of weight loss treatments. Orforglipron, a once-a-day oral GLP-1 drug that Lilly is working on, had shown a 3% weight loss at 4 weeks. The company is also exploring whether the weight loss treatment could be given only once a month.

Earlier this month, the US and allies practiced taking out a large surface ship with long-range weapons, including, for the first time, a US Air Force B-2 bomber. It showed the US military can use one of its most survivable weapons platforms, the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, to sink a major surface ship with a low-cost guided bomb. The Air Force says its stealthy characteristics allow it to penetrate heavily defended areas and also fly with a small chance of being detected by radar at high altitudes. Mating it up with relatively cheap and demonstrably effective precision-guided bombs with warheads of up to 2,000 pounds could give the Air Force bombers the “anti-ship lethality” of a submarine-launched torpedo without the liabilities of a submarine, according to a US Air Force website. The Air Force first tested QUICKSINK in 2022, when an F-15 fighter jet released a GBU-31 Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) that destroyed a full-scale surface target in the Gulf of Mexico, according to an Air Force statement.

NatWest's first-half pretax operating profit fell by a less than expected 16% to 3 billion pounds ($3.86 billion), it said on Friday, with margins hit by mortgage market competition and savers shifting deposits to higher-paying products. The British bank also said it would buy a portfolio of prime residential mortgages from Metro Bank for 2.4 billion pounds as it looks to build up its retail banking business. Income for the year is expected to reach about 14 billion pounds, up from an earlier forecast of between 13 billion and 13.5 billion pounds. The results followed a similar update from rival Lloyds Banking Group on Thursday, which reported a 14% fall in first-half profit but offered signs of optimism for the economic outlook in the second half.

Prince Harry’s marathon quest against Britain’s tabloids produced a “monumental victory” in the courts, he said in a TV interview that will air Thursday, but it was a “central piece” of the bitter rift between him and other members of the British royal family. Speaking for the first time since winning hundreds of thousands of pounds in damages from Mirror Group Newspapers over his claims that it had wrongfully invaded his privacy, Harry, 39, said that he had been vindicated by the judge’s ruling, even if the price to his relations with his family was high. “I’ve made it very clear that this is something that needs to be done,” Harry said in excerpts released by ITV News, part of an hourlong documentary about the phone-hacking scandal. But he added, “It would be nice if we, you know, did it as a family.”Harry, the younger son of King Charles III, did not explain exactly how his legal battle had further ruptured relations with his father or brother, Prince William. In his memoir, “Spare,” he attributed the rift to multiple causes, including his family’s treatment of his wife, Meghan Markle, a biracial American former actress.

CEO Jim Farley told investors in an earnings call on Wednesday that when it comes to EVs, bigger is not always better — and said that the company's future would depend on its ability to build smaller, cheaper electric vehicles. Advertisement"In ICE [Internal Combustion Engine], a business we've been in for 120 years, the bigger the vehicle, the higher the margin," Farley said. The company continues to lose money on its electric vehicle business amid an industry-wide slowdown in demand for EVs. Ford has quietly created a secretive "skunkworks" team, reportedly based in California, to build this new platform. "We have to start to get back in love with smaller vehicles.
