Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s proposed appointment to lead the US Department of Health and Human Services could have big consequences for a booming weight-loss market. Three Wall Street banks have taken differing views on gold's trajectory in 2025, reflecting the complex economic outlook. Goldman Sachs expects the price of the yellow metal to reach $3,000 per ounce by December 2025, saying "Go For Gold" in a note from Nov. 17. The gold price has declined by 7% since late October as the risk of a disputed U.S. election result diminished. While maintaining a positive outlook on gold, UBS warned that its gains — gold had risen 35% this year until November — could slow down. Goldman Sachs pointed to a fivefold increase in central bank gold purchases, driven by concerns about financial sanctions and sovereign debt sustainability.

Veteran investor Howard Marks said he was hopeful about China's economy, but cautioned that the country's growth target was a monumental challenge. China has set a growth target of "around 5%" for 2024, though Bank of America and Citigroup, among others, have projected the world's second-largest economy will grow at under 5%. The World Bank has pegged China growth in 2024 at 4.8%, and expects it to decline further to 4.3% next year, despite a recent slate measures to boost the economy. The World Bank cited headwinds such as sluggish Chinese consumer spending, a struggling property market and an ageing population as key concerns for the world's second-largest economy. Prosecutors on Tuesday are set to tell a judge whether they think the criminal hush money case against President-elect Donald Trump should head to sentencing, as planned, or be dismissed following his electoral victory, as his lawyers have requested. Those records related to a $130,000 payment his then-personal lawyer Michael Cohen made shortly before the 2016 election to porn star Stormy Daniels to buy her silence about a purported one-time sexual tryst with Trump a decade earlier. Judge Juan Merchan had been expected to rule on a dismissal request by Trump's lawyers on Nov. 12 at the earliest. But on the heels of Trump's election win, the DA's office told Merchan they wanted him to delay his ruling, to give them time to determine how that victory affected the case. Merchan gave them one week to do so.

AdvertisementX has added Twitch as a defendant in a suit accusing advertisers of colluding to withhold ad spend. Ad revenue on X has plummeted since Elon Musk acquired the platform in 2022. Elon Musk's X is suing Twitch, alleging that the Amazon-owned video streaming platform and other companies illegally conspired to boycott advertising on the platform formerly known as Twitter. Twitch, X, and the WFA didn't immediately respond to requests for comment made by Business Insider outside normal US business hours. Musk's own behavior on and off the platform — including famously telling advertisers who boycotted X to "go fuck yourself" — hasn't encouraged advertisers to place their budgets there, either.
