Analysts polled by Reuters had forecast a 0.1% month-over-month rise in July. Overall, the service-producing sector edged up 0.1% in July while the goods-producing sector posted a 0.3% contraction. The manufacturing sector shrank by 1.5% over June, the biggest month-on-month drop since April 2021, largely due to firms drawing down their inventories. The bank held its key overnight interest rate at 5% on Sept 6, noting the economy had entered a period of weaker growth.

Now a monument honoring Hunka's unit in Oakville's St Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery is under fire again after his appearance made headlines. It was vandalized with graffiti in 2020, when someone spray-painted the words "Nazi war monument" on its face, reported The Ottawa Citizen. "This represents the largest year-over-year increase in the population of non-permanent residents ... since comparable data are available (1971/1972), with the increase in work and study permits accounting for most of the change," said Statscan. "Near-record rates of population growth can also contribute to outsized employment growth, that could put upward pressure on consumer demand and ultimately drive further price increases," he said in a note.

CNN —It is hard to imagine any world leader wanting to share the foreign policy swamp in which the beleaguered Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, currently finds himself. Nijjar led a group pushing for the creation of an independent Sikh homeland in northern India called Khalistan. The Biden administration can’t be blamed for prioritizing its ongoing bromance with India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the bilateral relationship with Ottawa. A cynic might say that prematurely publicizing the explosive findings against India is a diversion tactic to steer attention away from the China interference file and the domestic issues piling up. Or that it is simply amateur hour at the offices of the prime minister and foreign affairs.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced several support measures for Ukraine, including military, economic and humanitarian assistance, while also pledging an additional show of diplomatic backing through steps intended to punish Russia over the war. Canada will provide Ukraine with 50 armored vehicles, including armored medical evacuation vehicles built in London, Ontario.
