The new expansion franchise will play its home games at the Moda Center in downtown Portland and become the WNBA’s 15th team, the league announced Wednesday. “As the WNBA builds on a season of unprecedented growth, bringing a team back to Portland is another important step forward,” WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert said in a statement. The FBI is warning election offices to be on the lookout after threatening letters containing suspicious substances were sent to the offices of multiple secretaries of state throughout the country. A senior law enforcement official confirms elections officials in at least six states received packages on Monday, but so far none of the packages have been found to contain any actual hazardous material. Secretaries of state, attorney general offices and state election offices in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Tennessee, Wyoming and Oklahoma were targeted. PHOENIX — Members of an Arizona tribe are trying to persuade a federal judge to extend a temporary ban on exploratory drilling for a lithium project near lands they have used for religious and cultural ceremonies for centuries. The springs have served as a place of healing and prayer for generations, the tribe has said in court filings. CNN —Some Delta Air Lines passengers are recovering after a pressurization issue on a flight from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Portland, Oregon, caused bloody noses and other issues, according to airline and passenger statements. “We sincerely apologize to our customers for their experience on flight 1203 on Sept. 15,” said a statement from a Delta spokesperson. Delta technicians fixed the pressurization issue on the aircraft, the airline said, and the plane was returned to service the following day. Caryn Allen told CNN affiliate KSL that said it didn’t take very long for passengers to notice something was wrong on the flight. No serious injuries were reported, but medical personnel identified 10 individuals in need of evaluation or treatment following the flight.

Boeing workers are voting on a new labor contract on Thursday, setting up the potential for a crippling strike if staff members decide to reject the deal just as the plane maker is trying to ramp up its production. "I know the reaction to our tentative agreement with the IAM has been passionate," he wrote in his staff note. The union, which represents about 33,000 Boeing factory workers in the Seattle area and in Oregon had sought some 40% pay raises from Boeing. But the 25% increase would be in line with the United Auto Workers' deal last year that followed strikes at Ford , General Motors and Chrysler parent Stellantis. If approved, the Boeing deal would follow a series of union-negotiated pay increases across industries ranging from Hollywood to airlines.

Among other benefits increases, the contract would increase union members’ pay by last least 25% over four years. Union members have launched a series of protests this week outside of Boeing plants and may ultimately reject the new contract union leaders negotiated with Boeing management. The deal will be officially approved if more than 50% of the members vote in favor of the tentative agreement. That would prevent a strike, no matter how many workers vote to strike. If just more than a third of members vote against a strike, then the contract takes effect, no matter the results of the ratification vote.
