Treasury yields have ripped higher of late, even as the Federal Reserve continues to cut rates. The benchmark 10-year Treasury note yield has soared nearly 70 basis points to 4.3% since mid-September, when the Fed cut rates by a half-point. Despite the Fed's latest action, the incoming Trump administration is likely to keep yields elevated, according to Ned Davis Research. Dimitrova noted that rising debt-to-GDP ratio has been closely linked with higher bond yields. The question for investors now is: How long until higher yields start putting pressure on equities?

Nissan Motor shares slumped 6% in Tokyo trade Friday, a day after the Japanese automaker said it would cut 9,000 jobs and a fifth of its manufacturing capacity as it struggles with sales in China and the United States. It said restructuring would cut costs by 400 billion yen ($2.61 billion) in the financial year to the end of March. Nissan is also challenged in the US where it lacks a line-up of hybrids just as that vehicle type is in strong demand. On Friday, Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Yoji Muto declined to comment to reporters when asked his views on potential government support for Nissan. “The company released its mid-term plan this spring, but in the end there was no meaning to that.

It's still uncertain what Donald Trump's second presidency will look like, but his first administration was highly responsive to business issues with a set way of operating, top German business executive Joe Kaeser told CNBC. "If I personally, for my company at the time, had an issue to resolve, his administration was extremely receptive," the chairman of the supervisory board of Siemens Energy said in an interview with CNBC's Annette Weisbach Thursday. Kaeser was Siemens' CEO throughout President-elect Trump's first term. Trump did "a lot of things which helped the economy" during his first four years in office, Kaeser said, noting that he believed the president-elect's tax cuts at the time were a positive. One study done at the time, however, showed that the Trump tax cuts, which were implemented in 2017, only had a limited contribution to the strong U.S. growth the following year.

Tomohiro Ohsumi | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesDETROIT — Toyota Motor sounded the alarm Friday that California-led electric vehicle mandates that are set to start next year are "impossible" to meet and, if they're not changed, will lead to less customer choice in several states. Battery-electric, fuel cell and, to an extent, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles qualify as zero emission under the regulations. At this point, it looks impossible," Jack Hollis, chief operating officer of Toyota Motor North America, said during a virtual media roundtable Friday. Several automotive insiders previously told CNBC that the EV mandate issue needed to be addressed regardless of who won election this year.

Microsoft — like its Big Tech competitors — is introducing AI to its consumer products, from virtual chatbot assistants to notetaking and editing tools. In October, Microsoft introduced a sweeping update to its Copilot virtual assistant in an effort to make it more useful and user-friendly, CEO of Microsoft AI Mustafa Suleyman previously told CNN. Microsoft users will also see AI features in Notepad, Microsoft’s writing platform, allowing them to use the new technology to help rewrite or edit sentences. For example, users can type a sentence, and then prompt the AI tool to rewrite the sentence or modify its tone or length. Apple’s “Writing Tools,” an editing tool, is similar to Microsoft’s AI features in Notepad.

A pro-business agenda, regulatory flexibility, and potential tax incentives under his administration could once again set the stage for technology stocks to outperform. Adobe (ADBE) , a leader in AI-enhanced creative solutions, is particularly well-positioned to capitalize on this environment. With its superior growth rates and operational margins that set it apart from peers, Adobe's valuation presents a compelling entry point amid strong fundamentals and a supportive administration. This signals that sellers are starting to get exhausted and presents an opportunity for buyers to start stepping in for a strong counter-trend rally. CNN —Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett stands apart. And that is why Barrett has become the best hope for what remains of the liberal wing, particularly after Trump’s election victory. As Trump returns to the White House, the Supreme Court may be even more positioned to check the balance of powers. Nonetheless, progressives have few options, and an uncertain horizon, and cannot help but imbue Barrett with hope. “As Justice Barrett said…,” is a common Kagan refrain, too.

Donald Trump owns 16 golf courses across three continents, mostly with vibrant social-media presences. AdvertisementAt President-elect Donald Trump's golf courses, his election posed a dilemma: Embrace the connection, or stay quiet? International courses in Dubai and Indonesia also kept quiet, as did the US courses in Los Angeles County and Hudson Valley, New York. But his victory does put a spotlight back on Trump's business empire, where companies could use the connections as a selling point or try to function like a business without a famous owner. Reuters estimated earlier this year that Trump's golf and resort business is the biggest driver of the Trump Organization's cash flow.

CNN —Lost luggage is one of the major woes of the modern travel era, with rates of mishandled bags still up since the start of the pandemic. But travelers wanting their bags back will still have to move fast – the shareable tracking option is currently only available for a week. In 2023, airlines lost an average of 6.9 bags per 1,000 passengers, according to SITA, which offers solutions for the aviation industry. That’s an improvement on 2022, which saw a whopping 7.6 bags lost per 1,000 passengers — but still well up on pre-pandemic numbers. In 2019, 5.6 bags were lost per 1,000 flyers.

That will soon become a reality in Texas with a new restaurant that unites the two chains under the same roof. Dine Brands, which owns the two restaurants, announced that the combined Applebee’s-IHOP restaurant will open approximately 35 miles west of San Antonio early next year, marking the first time the company has brought the concept to the United States. Plans for the dual-branded restaurant were announced earlier this year as part of Dine Brand’s plan to grow the two restaurants, which both reported lackluster earnings Wednesday. The idea is to maximize revenue with the same footprint of a traditional restaurant. That’s because the two restaurants’ menus encompass all parts of the day (pancakes and eggs Benedict for breakfast and steak and wings for dinner) and will have staff trained to work with both.

Nissan Motor Co is recalling more than 300,000 SUVs in the United States over an issue in which the hood suddenly opens, obstructing the driver's view and increasing the risk of a crash. Nissan Motor said it would slash 9,000 jobs and cut global production capacity by a fifth, while revising its annual profit outlook sharply lower as it battles headwinds in China and the United States. Japan's third-largest automaker cut its annual operating profit forecast by 70% to 150 billion yen ($975 million), marking its second downward revision after a 17% cut earlier this year.
