CNN —H5N1 bird flu has been identified in a pig in the United States for the first time, the US Department of Agriculture said Wednesday. The USDA and Oregon veterinary officials are investigating bird flu cases in a backyard farming operation that had a mix of poultry and livestock, including pigs, the agency said. After H5N1 was identified in other animals on the farm, five swine were euthanized for testing; two tested negative, and results are still pending for two others. Some previous flu infections in pigs have allowed influenza viruses to change rapidly and develop new capabilities. Across the United States, more than two dozen people have tested positive for H5N1 flu this year, and nearly all of them have reported exposure to infected dairy cows or chickens, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There’s nothing subtle about the Trump agenda. And there is a real fear that the Trump agenda could do more harm than good – especially on the inflation front. They point to study after study that finds Americans have borne almost the entire cost of Trump’s tariffs on Chinese products. And that estimate does not even include almost-definite retaliation from other nations who would respond to Trump tariffs with ones of their own. CNN —People who only exercise on weekends have a similar risk of developing mild dementia to those who work out more frequently, a new study has found. A team of academics from Latin America and Europe set out to determine whether the frequency of exercise affects the risk of developing mild dementia. The finding led the team to conclude that 13% of cases of mild dementia could be avoided if all middle-aged people exercised at least once or twice a week. When compared with the group that did not exercise, the weekend warriors were 13% less likely to develop mild dementia, and those in the regular and combined groups were 12% less likely. I feel quite strongly that the weekend warriors around the world should be told that what they are doing is fine.”He added: “The weekend warrior research is starting to add up now.

Ninety people in 13 states have been infected in a deadly E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday, as it continues to investigate the source of the spread. Before Wednesday, the CDC last gave an update on the outbreak on Friday, when the agency said it had 75 cases in 13 states. Fresh slivered onions served on Quarter Pounders and other menu items at McDonald's are "the likely source of this outbreak," the CDC said on its website on Wednesday. The CDC believes the risk to the public is "very low" due to the efforts from McDonald's and Taylor Farms. Quarter Pounder hamburgers are a core menu item for McDonald's, raking in billions of dollars each year.

Donald Trump proposed mass deportation to lower housing costs and boost job opportunities. Ahead of Donald Trump’s Tuesday appearance in the heavily Latino city of Allentown, Pennsylvania, a comedian’s racist joke about Puerto Ricans at the former president’s Madison Square Garden rally drew fresh blowback. “However, the other five million who live in the United States, whom they also labeled as trash, can vote.”One of those five million Puerto Rican voters is Allentown resident Efraín Dávila. Hinchcliffe made his racist jokes in an election cycle in which Republicans have said they are messaging to Latinos as Americans. But the comedian at his rally attacked Puerto Ricans, who are American citizens at birth, not immigrants, said Mike Madrid, a Republican consultant who opposes Trump. Madrid added that it is more difficult to waive off the comedian’s racist jokes, because they did not come from Trump.

A graduate student analyzing publicly available drone data in Mexico unexpectedly stumbled across a huge ancient Mayan city buried beneath dense jungle. For centuries, the city lay hidden amid jungle canopy in the state of Campeche, on the Gulf of Mexico. New research published Tuesday in the journal Antiquity reveals sites that in total cover area about one-and-a-half times the size of Washington, D.C. The data, gathered by a research group studying land-use patterns, came to light using modern drone mapping technology known as LiDAR — light detection and ranging equipment. LiDAR maps are used by a wide range of researchers to collect data for archeological and nonarchaeological purposes, but Auld-Thomas took the data and analyzed the maps with methods used by archaeologists.

HALCHITA, Utah — After a five-year wait, Lorraine Black and Ricky Gillis heard the rumblings of an electrical crew reach their home on the sprawling Navajo Nation. In five days’ time, their home would be connected to the power grid, replacing their reliance on a few solar panels and propane lanterns. Some rely on solar panels or generators, which can be patchy, and others have no electricity whatsoever. Gillis and Black filed an application to connect their home back in 2019. But when the coronavirus pandemic started ravaging the tribe and everything besides essential services was shut down on the reservation, it further stalled the process.

Pulque is the oldest ancestor of two of Mexico's most popular alcoholic drinks, tequila and mezcal. It's not nearly as popular as the other two, but that wasn't always the case. In the late 1800s, pulque was Mexico's most-consumed alcoholic drink. But untrue rumors that it was fermented with feces, its reputation as a drink for the poor, and competition from the beer industry nearly made pulque completely disappear. So can pulque become a global hit like tequila and mezcal?

The Invesco Solar ETF (TAN) and the iShares Global Clean Energy ETF (ICLN) have tumbled more than 9% and 10%, respectively. While Trump's platform says he wants to unleash production from all sources, the document specifically calls out oil, gas and nuclear. How voters perceive the two candidates' energy policies could end up playing an influential role in the outcome of the election altogether. While the election will bring short-term volatility, the solar industry remains well positioned for long-term growth, according to Bank of America. About 25% of oil and 10% of natural gas production is on federal land and waters, according to the bank.

Unlike with the hurricane rumor response page, FEMA did not appear to respond to the rumors on its page for the wildfires. By 2009, Alex Jones, perhaps one of the most widely known modern conspiracy theorists, was promoting the false FEMA camps conspiracy theory and deriding those who attempted to debunk it. The FEMA camps conspiracy theory continued throughout the height of the pandemic after President Joe Biden signed various executive orders regarding vaccinations and testing. Ron DeSantis said the plan was “not necessary” and referred to the vaccination sites as “FEMA camps.”Although the FEMA camp conspiracy theory has been shot down again and again, Aniano believes this won’t be the last of it. “The conspiracy theory, it’s going to come up again,” Aniano said.

So far, many like what Harris is offering, though some remain undecided just over a week before Election Day. The county is exceptionally diverse, with no single ethnic group comprising more than a third of residents, according to 2020 census data. Morales posted to his Instagram profile a statement from his party, Movement Towards Socialism (MAS), blaming the attack on current Bolivian President Luis Arce and two of his government ministers. Throughout the past year, Morales has clashed with sitting president Arce – his fellow MAS party member and former ally – as both politicians battle for reelection in 2025. CNN —McDonald’s will resume selling Quarter Pounders in all restaurants in the coming week after considering new data regarding an E. coli outbreak linked to its famed burgers, the company announced Sunday. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a food safety alert Tuesday warning dozens of people reported eating the Quarter Pounder sandwich at McDonald’s before becoming sick. On Sunday, the Colorado Department of Agriculture said McDonald’s beef patties used for the Quarter Pounder tested negative for E. coli. The 900 restaurants that received slivered onions from McDonald’s supplier Taylor Farms’ Colorado Springs facility will resume sales of Quarter Pounders without slivered onions, the release added. CNN has reached out to the FDA to see if it has ruled out beef patties as the source of the E. coli outbreak.
