A Florida man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his missing ex-wife, after human remains were found in a burn pile on his property, according to court documents. Ian Christopher Baunach, 43, was charged Monday in Hendry County, Florida, in connection with the death of Katie Samantha Baunach, who was last seen Sept. 29, the Hendry County Sheriff's Office said. Katie Baunach. After failing to make contact with Ian Baunach, officers later returned and found her car had been moved from the driveway onto the street. He did, however, admit "to being angry that Katie Baunach filed for and received a domestic violence injunction against him,” the complaint said.
Two teenagers have been arrested in South Carolina, charged with murder, and will be extradited in connection with the death of Georgia high school football star Elijah DeWitt, who was found shot in a mall parking lot. DeWitt, 18, was found dead on the ground with gunshot wounds Wednesday evening around 8:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Sugarloaf Mills Mall in Gwinnett County, Georgia, near a Dave & Buster’s arcade, authorities said. The Gwinnett County Police Department announced Friday two teens from Lawrenceville, Georgia, were arrested in South Carolina. They will be extradited from the custody of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office to Gwinnett County, police said. DeWitt was a senior at Jefferson High School and star wide receiver on the school's football team.

Canadian actor Robert Cormier, who appeared in the drama "Heartland" has died at the age of 33. The actor died Friday in Etobicoke, Ontario, according to his obituary. Cormier died in the hospital of injuries he sustained in a fall, his sister told his talent agent’s office. The New York man who was caught on video punching an elderly Asian woman more than 100 times earlier this year pleaded guilty Tuesday to a hate crime charge, officials announced. Tammel Esco, 42, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault as a hate crime, a violent felony, said a statement from the Westchester County District Attorney’s office. In a plea deal, he'll be sentenced on Nov. 29 to 17 1/2 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision, the statement said. A trooper is in critical condition after being shot during an undercover narcotics operation in Detroit early Tuesday morning, causing officials to urge residents to stay indoors, Michigan State Police said. The unit was conducting surveillance on the city's west side at 1:30 a.m. when “they took fire by an unknown suspect” and the male trooper was struck, Michigan State Police’s Second District said. A 3-year-old boy has died after he was pushed into Lake Michigan in Chicago by his aunt, officials said. The child was pulled from the water by emergency personnel and transported to a hospital in critical condition, police said. Moreno was denied bail at a court hearing Wednesday where the defense argued that she has mental health issues, NBC Chicago reported. Prosecutors said that Moreno lives in Des Plaines, a Chicago suburb, with her family and left the house with Josiah without anyone else knowing. He was in the water for 30 minutes when divers pulled him out from the bottom of the lake, according to prosecutors.
Two middle school students in Florida have died after their boat capsized during an apparent lightning strike while they were out for rowing practice earlier this month. A boat holding athletes with the North Orlando Rowing Club, a competitive rowing club for students in Central Florida, capsized in Lake Fairview, Orlando, on Sept. 15 at 5:50 p.m., the Orlando Fire Department said. It said lightning had struck in the area at the same time, according to preliminary reports. It is still not clear whether the lightning caused the boat to capsize. North Orlando Rowing (NOR) said on September 16, “We learned we lost one of our rowers in this tragic accident.”On Saturday, the rowing club announced the death of the child who was hospitalized.
A second decomposed body found this week in the home of former Rhode Island mayor Susan Menard, who was identified as the other body, has been identified as her boyfriend, authorities said Friday. Daniel Grabowski also died in Menard’s Woonsocket home, according to a statement from the Office of the State Medical Examiners at the Rhode Island Department of Health. Authorities identified Menard's body earlier this week as one of the two dead in the house. Menard died from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, officials said Friday. A United Airlines flight from New Jersey to Brazil ended up circling over the Atlantic Ocean for nearly two hours Wednesday and making an emergency landing because of a mechanical issue, flight officials said. Flight 149 departed from Newark Liberty International Airport at 11 p.m. ET Wednesday night, bound for São Paulo–Guarulhos International Airport with 256 passengers on board, according to the flight's history. The plane experienced a “mechanical issue shortly after takeoff,” United Airlines said in a statement, revealing that initial maintenance inspection points to a hydraulic pump issue. The plane, a Boeing 777-200, landed after the crew reported an "emergency," the Federal Aviation Administration said, noting that an investigation was underway.
A wellness check for a 22-year-old woman in New York City reportedly led to a grisly discovery: blood, human remains and body parts stuffed into suitcases, police said. The New York City Police Department was called to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Linwood Street in East New York around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday to conduct the check. When officers arrived to the woman’s sixth-floor apartment, they found two suitcases containing human remains, police said. However, it’s not clear if the victim’s entire body was accounted for. It’s also not clear if the remains belong to the woman subject of the wellness check.
One of two bodies found in a severe state of decomposition in the home of former Rhode Island mayor Susan Menard earlier this week has been confirmed to be her, state health officials confirmed. A recently-divorced Florida man fatally shot his ex-wife and her adult son in a “rage” over electricity and leaving the lights on in the house, Florida authorities said. Chief Deputy Brian Henderson said detectives determined Williams launched the rampage over arguments he had with his ex regarding electricity in the home. Williams told officials he shut off power to the house and locked the electrical panel and left on Sunday. But when he came back, he found Ebanks-Williams and Adams had cut the lock, restored power, and placed a new lock on the panel. Williams and Ebanks-Williams remained living together following their divorce with plans to eventually sell the home and split the proceeds, Henderson said.

Rapper Post Malone bruised his ribs after falling through a hole on stage during a performance in St. Louis over the weekend, his manager said. The 27-year-old artist was performing at the Enterprise Center in downtown St. Louis Saturday when he fell mid-song. His manager, Dre London, shared a post Sunday revealing the singer suffered bruised ribs in the fall, and is on the mend. He praised Post Malone for continuing the sing and finish the show, even after the accident. A man accused of killing his co-worker’s family in their Texas home more than eight years ago was arrested over the weekend after he arrived at San Francisco’s airport from China, officials said. Similar to what he told the FBI, Lu told sheriff's office investigators he didn't know where the Sun family lived until he saw news coverage of their deaths. Authorities also interviewed Lu’s wife. The sheriff’s office said there were inconsistencies between her version and Lu’s versions of what happened. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation continues.
