By comparing the New York ants with the European ones, Seifert was able to confirm the ant’s identity. Convicted former FTX executive Ryan Salame's domestic partner Michelle Bond has been indicted in New York on federal charges accusing her of conspiring to raise unlawful campaign contributions from FTX for her unsuccessful run for Congress in 2022, prosecutors announced Thursday. Salame and Bond met in June 2021, and were in a relationship by early the following year, according to the indictment. The indictment alleges that Salame, identified only as CC-1, conspired with Bond to commit the crimes, saying that Salame arranged the payment from FTX to Bond. She then allegedly used "almost entirely" all of that money "to fund her campaign illegally," the indictment says. Salame's lawyers claim prosecutors reneged on an agreement to drop their campaign finance probe of Bond as an incentive to get him to plead guilty.

Kennedy Jr.’s independent presidential campaign was dealt a blow on Monday when a judge ruled that his petition to appear on New York’s ballot was invalid, saying Mr. Kennedy had used a “sham” address to maintain his New York residency. The Brooklyn, New York, apartment building of Columbia University’s chief operating officer was vandalized Thursday with red paint and crickets, police said. A preliminary investigation determined that two people threw red paint inside the building’s vestibule and unleashed a box containing crickets and mealworms, police said in a statement. Several other people involved caused “damage to the front of the building by throwing paint on the building and sidewalk,” according to police. Photos released by police showed red paint splattered across the sidewalk and on the wall of the building.
