Lockheed Martin CEO Jim Taiclet told CNBC's Jim Cramer on Tuesday that the U.S. needs to invest in digital technology to prepare for the future. Taiclet added that Lockheed has alliances with companies like Nvidia, Microsoft and Intel to bring digital technology more quickly into the defense sector. The Biden administration is seeking a $105 billion security aid package to support the security needs of allies like Ukraine and Israel. According to Taiclet, Lockheed is capable of doubling its F35 aircrafts with the right investments from government and its suppliers, but it might take a few years. "We want to be on offense and defense and use the latest technology to actually make that happen," he said.

Billie Flynn spent years as a pilot in the testing program for the F-35 stealth fighter jet. I was involved with the F-35 program for essentially 20 years after coming over to Lockheed Martin from the Eurofighter Typhoon program. So there really are pilots who are better than others, but as a test pilot, that flying skill is what keeps us alive. And I think that's thanks to incredible engineers, incredible designers and incredible military fighter pilots who were instrumental in developing the airplane.

NASA sent a spacecraft flying by the Dinkinesh asteroid. The agency discovered that Dinkinesh is actually a binary asteroid system. The Lucy spacecraft discovered that the larger asteroid has a baby asteroid dancing around it. But the Lucy spacecraft returned images showing that the asteroid Dinkinesh is actually a binary asteroid system, meaning there are two asteroids orbiting a common center. Lucy flew by the asteroid system at a speed of 10,000 miles per hour, NASA said.

Details of how Japan is paring back military procurement due to currency fluctuations have not been previously reported. China, which has not ruled out using military force to bring Taiwan under its control, has expressed concern about Japan's military spending plans, accusing it of displaying a "Cold War mentality." In December, defence ministry officials discussed an order for 34 twin-rotor Chinook transport helicopters at roughly 15 billion yen per aircraft, two of the sources said. She declined to comment on whether the defence ministry had dropped an order for the seaplane. A ministry spokesperson confirmed the companies delivered a letter on Oct 25 to Defence Minister Minoru Kihara urging the government to proceed with the defence procurement as planned.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — U.S. Rep. Kay Granger of Texas, the Republican chairwoman of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, said Wednesday she will not seek reelection in 2024 after nearly three decades in Congress. Granger, 80, is the nation's longest-serving GOP congresswoman and was first elected in 1996. Her decision ends a barrier-breaking career that included serving as Fort Worth's first female mayor and Texas' first GOP congresswoman. Granger was among the Republicans who opposed Rep. Jim Jordan's bid to become House speaker. She said she will work with new Speaker Mike Johnson “to advance our conservative agenda" for the remainder of her term.

Growth picked up while quiescent inflation permitted interest rates to fall. Bereft of government support, central banks tried to stimulate their economies by pushing interest rates to new lows. That means interest rates will struggle to return to the ultra-low levels seen after 2008. The first takeaway is that higher debt levels, inflation and interest rates should be bad for bonds. The Pentagon's Space Development Agency on Monday announced about $1.3 billion in contracts to York Space and Northrop Grumman to build communications satellites. Under the T2TL-Alpha awards, Northrop will build 38 "data transport" satellites for $732 million, while York will build 62 satellites for $617 million. Northrop's award to build Alpha variant satellites for T2TL comes months after the defense giant won an SDA order for Beta variants. In August, Northrop won a $733 million award to build 36 satellites for the T2TL-Beta segment of PWSA, alongside Lockheed Martin . The SDA has previously awarded contracts to build and operate satellites in its fleet to SpaceX and L3Harris, in addition to Northrop, York and Lockheed.

WASHINGTON, Oct 27 (Reuters) - The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 is starting to boost defense contractors' revenues, as customers such as the U.S. government restock supplies shipped to Ukraine and countries around Europe arm themselves with an eye on Moscow's aggressions. New contracts to supply Ukraine directly - or backfill U.S. weapons sent to Ukraine - were signed late last year, and now revenue is flowing to the big defense contractors. "We've gone from 14,000 (artillery) rounds per month to 20,000 very quickly. The General Dynamics' Combat Systems unit, which makes armored vehicles, tanks and the artillery Ukraine uses, saw its revenue rise almost 25% versus the same period a year ago. Third-quarter sales for Northrop Grumman's (NOC.N) Defense Systems segment rose 6% on high demand for ammunition and rocket motors used in guided multiple-launch rocket systems (GMLRS), which play a crucial role in supporting Ukraine's defense efforts against Russian forces.

The Nasdaq and the S & P 500 are each on pace for declines of about 2.5%. Some stocks hit by this week's losses have become oversold — and could be due for a bounce. Align Technology , another company that has taken a heavy beating to its stock price this week, could also be due for a comeback, based on analysts' price targets. The company's third-quarter results fell short of analysts' expectations , and a slate of analysts cut their price targets following the release. Analysts covering the stock forecast a 4.6% upside for the company's stock price, and less than 30% rate it a buy.

The Boeing KC-46 Pegasus aerial refueling tanker is seen before a delivery celebration to the U.S. Air Force in Everett, Washington, U.S., January 24, 2019. Despite absorbing $4.4 billion in losses in 2022 – which executives said would lower the risk of future cost overruns – the unit has seen little improvement this year. Excluding last year, losses on Boeing's defense programs in 2023 exceed those from all years since 2014, according to a Reuters review of Boeing’s regulatory filings. The latest charge for Air Force One brought total losses to $2.4 billion on a $3.9 billion contract to develop two planes. A better bet, and one Boeing's defense segment is aggressively pursuing, is inking future contracts for next-generation fighter jets and cutting-edge drones.

CNBC's Jim Cramer suggested that defense companies are worthwhile investments as the U.S. empties its arsenals to aid allies Israel and Ukraine. "Our country's paltry land war-making capacity makes us a weaker arsenal of democracy, and sooner or later, either the White House or Congress will change how our defense budget gets spent," Cramer said. "That makes the big defense contractors investible." He named several major defense contractors that are set to benefit from a Pentagon push, including Lockheed Martin , RTX , Boeing , Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics . In reality, the rest of the world's only gotten more chaotic, and our government can't do anything about it if we run out of munitions," Cramer said.

United Launch Alliance plans to launch the inaugural flight of its Vulcan rocket on Christmas Eve, CEO Tory Bruno told CNBC's Morgan Brennan on Tuesday. The Vulcan rocket for the Cert-1 mission stands at SLC-41 during testing in Cape Canaveral, Florida, on May 12, 2023. ULA's path to the first Vulcan launch faced several delays earlier this year, including the explosion of an engine during testing by its supplier Blue Origin, previously reported by CNBC. Following the incident, Bruno told CNBC in a "Manifest Space" podcast interview that the company still planned to fly its heavy-lift rocket by late 2023. The company added a massive contract to launch Amazon's Kuiper satellites to its previously government-heavy backlog for Vulcan.

"Airbus remains committed to providing the U.S. Air Force and our warfighters with the most modern and capable tanker on the market," an Airbus spokesperson said. The Air Force has sought to replace hundreds of Eisenhower-era KC-135 tankers in three lots. "Lockheed Martin has decided not to respond to the U.S. Air Force's KC-135 fleet recapitalization Request for Information," Lockheed spokesperson Stephanie Stinn said in a statement. A Lockheed-Airbus victory would have landed Airbus its first aircraft contract with the U.S. Air Force after attempting to penetrate the U.S. defense market for two decades. In 2011, Boeing won the first of the three-phase procurement to replace the Air Force's aging tanker fleet, securing a contract for 179 KC-46s.

The White House request to provide the Pentagon with an additional $10.6 billion to equip Israel includes systems with substantial U.S. content, which might help ease its passage through Congress. Israel’s Rafael makes the David’s Sling missile-defense system in partnership with U.S. defense giant RTX, which says its work is spread across around 30 states. The two companies also cooperate on the shorter range Iron Dome defense system and are considering a U.S. production facility for the missile interceptors. The proposed funds would also advance Rafael’s Iron Beam platform, which uses lasers to down missiles and drones. It hopes to have that system operational in 2025 and is working with Lockheed Martin on a U.S. version.
