CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Alex Ovechkin scored twice and became the third player in NHL history to have at least 20 goals in 19 consecutive seasons as the Washington Capitals beat the Calgary Flames 5-2 on Monday night. The 38-year-old Ovechkin had two power-play goals in the second period as Washington won its third straight game. He was the spark we needed tonight.”The Capitals have been helped in their playoff chase by a rejuvenated power play. “ ... It’s on the penalty kill guys have to do a better job, myself right up there.”Calgary was 0 for 3 on the power play. For me, that was the difference in the game,” Calgary coach Ryan Huska said.

In part, that was because it was just impossible to trace Irish famine immigrants and find out what had happened to them. This is just inconceivable to anyone who had ever thought about the famine Irish given the obstacles that faced them. Biden is one of four US presidents who descended from Irish famine immigrants. The famine immigrants really were the ones who cemented the idea of the American Dream as we understand it today. At the time, the neighborhood was home to the more Irish immigrants than any other part of the city.

The blockbuster drug — one of a handful of weight loss treatments to skyrocket in popularity over the last year — is now approved in the U.S. for heart health, too. The spokesperson added that state Medicaid programs would be required to cover Wegovy for its new cardiovascular use. But Gremminger said the standard of care for the long-term use of weight loss drugs is "in flux." State employees will no longer have insurance coverage for GLP-1s when used for weight loss at the beginning of next month. Both drugmakers have launched programs to help patients, with or without commercial insurance coverage, afford their weight loss treatments.

For those assigned female at birth, puberty blockers pause the development of breasts, wider hips or a menstrual period. Here’s what else you should know about puberty blockers and, if you’re a parent, whether they’re something your child needs. “Many kids have already completed puberty by the age of 13 or 14 … so we start blockers when puberty starts,” Forcier said. The one right way to do things is to listen to the patient.”How safe are puberty blockers? Some people worry that children who take puberty blockers may change their minds about their gender identity later in life.

Harvard’s Schlesinger Library is the nation’s leading repository for women’s history, home to the papers of suffragists and social reformers, poets and politicians, the collective behind “Our Bodies, Ourselves” and iconic figures like Amelia Earhart, Angela Davis and Julia Child. But in its basement vaults, carefully preserved in a box, you can also find a rather different artifact: a costume from the 1978 pornographic comedy “Hot & Saucy Pizza Girls.”The movie, starring John C. Holmes as a pimp who oversees a prostitution ring masquerading as a pizza delivery service, was history-making in its own way, as one of the earliest examples of what became a classic trope — porn with pepperoni. But the costume is at the Schlesinger because of another name on the bill: Candida Royalle. Royalle, who died in 2015, was a minor celebrity in her day. She was a porn star from the 1970s golden age who moved to the other side of the camera, producing feminist erotica that focused on female fantasies, and female audiences.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — There is a whole other show that happens offscreen at the Oscars that the home audience doesn't see on television. “It’s not OK, it’s bad, I’m going home.”GRETA GERWIG AND THE COSTUME DESIGNERSOut in the lobby Gerwig had a fan who wanted to talk to her about something very specific: Ann Roth’s ‘Barbie’ cameo. During the performance, the Dolby Theatre took on the feel of a Taylor Swift concert, with everyone in the room standing and breaking into spontaneous, joyous dance. And the biggest fan in the room was Gerwig, who was given her own personal Ken right up in her face. During the commercial break Mark Ronson found his way to Gerwig, Robbie and a crowd of admirers.

What’s So Funny About a Naked Man?
  + stars: | 2024-03-10 | by ( Rhonda Garelick | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
John Cena’s ‘streaker manqué” routine at the Oscars was pretty funny. And soon, an entirely naked, and remarkably buff, Mr. Cena came onstage to introduce the Best Costume Design, nervously grasping the sealed Oscar envelope over his genitals, as a makeshift fig leaf. Then, in a bit of television magic, he was draped in a toga-like, one-shouldered robe with a tasseled rope belt. An exactingly chiseled, naked male body onstage is only funny because it is unexpected — because, that is, it does not belong to a woman. Seeing a naked woman on stage at the Oscars could never be funny, simply because it’s the norm to see female bodies in various states of revealing dress on the red carpet, and in movies as well.

The actor appeared on stage during the telecast to present the award for best costume design hilariously appearing to wear nothing at all. No really, Cena appeared on the stage at the year’s most prestigious event in Hollywood… almost entirely naked. “Dude, I don’t wrestle naked,” Cena said. “I wrestle in jorts!”“Jorts are worse than naked!” Kimmel said as the audience laughed.

3 SHADES OF BLUE: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, and the Lost Empire of Cool, by James KaplanMiles Davis was one of the biggest stars in jazz as well as one of the most innovative and influential musicians. John Coltrane was both a saxophone virtuoso and a fearless explorer whose lifelong musical and spiritual quest attracted a passionate following — and later, as that quest went beyond the boundaries of jazz as many people understood the word, heated criticism. Bill Evans redefined the concept of the piano trio and rewrote the rules of jazz harmony. Well, we may not need it, but we have it. And if “3 Shades of Blue: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, and the Lost Empire of Cool” is neither an essential addition to the jazz literature nor quite the sweeping statement its subtitle promises, it’s certainly a compelling read.

5 Minutes That Will Make You Love Don Cherry

Of all the musicians we’ve featured in this series, Don Cherry might be the most adventurous. Though with Cherry, there was a sense that he didn’t want to shift the genre as a whole. Cherry grew up in a musical family; his grandmother played piano for silent films, and his mother played piano at home. Though Cherry earned favor as a member of Coleman’s band and a featured player on the albums “Something Else!!! Then, on the 1985 album “Home Boy (Sister Out),” Cherry turned his attention to Paris.

The start was typical: Oper Frankfurt in Germany asked John Cage to write an opera. But the premiere, in 1987, was unlike anything in opera up to that point. (Audience members also received varied plot synopses that read like opera Mad Libs.) The public wasn’t exactly equipped to receive what Cage had served them. Laura Kuhn, who runs the John Cage Trust and worked with him as he prepared “Europeras 1 & 2,” wrote in her dissertation on the piece that the reception in Frankfurt varied from “overt enthusiasm to no less overt bewilderment or disdain.”

Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell announced Wednesday he will support Donald Trump for the presidency, a move that comes more than three years after they have last spoken and after the Kentucky Republican pointedly blamed Trump for the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. “It is abundantly clear that former President Trump has earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee for President of the United States,” McConnell said in a statement. The public support from McConnell, who announced last week he would step down as GOP leader at the end of the year, also came after his other top Republican senators have endorsed Trump. 2 Republican in the chamber who is running to replace McConnell, endorsed Trump earlier this month. Texas Sen. John Cornyn, another possible McConnell successor, backed Trump after he won the New Hampshire primary.

A more important factor could be whether Trump's real estate assets are already mortgaged, said law professor John Coffee.
