It was a precise strike that took out an office in a building and caused little damage outside of that. Months of tit-for-tat attacks between Israel and Hezbollah had largely been confined to areas near the border between Lebanon and Israel. Israel and the US blamed Hezbollah for the strike; the group denied responsibility. Israel had vowed to punish Hezbollah for the Golan strike, raising fears once again that simmering tensions could finally spiral into all-out conflict. Israel said the weekend assault in Golan had crossed a red line.

Won the Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Gold1 United States 171.296 2 Italy -5.802 points behind 3 Brazil -6.799The United States took the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics team final at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday, beginning with solid vaults from Simone Biles and Jade Carey and ending with a bringing-down-the-house routine by Biles on the floor exercise. Team Italy took the silver, its first Olympic team medal in women’s gymnastics since 1928. And despite wobbles on the beam by Brazilians Flavia Saraiva and Rebeca Andrade — both during a skill called a switch ring leap — their team placed third for its first-ever Olympic team medal. Smoke billows from the area of an Israeli air strike on the southern Lebanese village of Khiam near the border with Israel on March 23. RabihIsrael and Hezbollah have been trading rocket fire on a near-daily basis with increasing ferocity since Hamas’ October 7 attacks on Israel. Following Saturday’s strike on the soccer field, Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes against Hezbollah targets “deep inside Lebanese territory” and along the border overnight Sunday, according to the military. Yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened an emergency security cabinet meeting, and members “authorized the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense to decide on the nature of the response against the terror organization Hezbollah, and on its’ timing,” according to the Prime Minister’s Office. Israeli officials have blamed Hezbollah for the strike and vowed to retaliate, while the Lebanese militant group has denied responsibility.

The stock market is about to see a major shift once the Fed cuts rates, Jeremy Siegel said. The top economist thinks value stocks could start outperforming growth stocks once the Fed eases policy. Cooling inflation data supports a Fed rate cut by September, Siegel predicted. The Wharton School finance professor pointed to opportunity lurking in value stocks, an unloved group of the market that's underperformed this year when compared to growth stocks. Growth stocks have outperformed partly due to Wall Street's AI craze, which has ignited investor fervor for growth stocks, like mega-cap tech firms.

Britain's Finance Minister Rachel Reeves has pledged to make the "necessary", "urgent" and "incredibly tough" choices to restore the country's economic stability. Britain's Finance Minister Rachel Reeves on Monday announced a raft of project cuts after detailing how the newly elected Labour government has inherited a projected overspend of £22 billion ($28.2 billion) from the center-right Conservatives. The finance minister also said she had canceled plans to sell NatWest shares to the public, saying the proposal put forward by her predecessor Jeremy Hunt did not "represent value for money." Britain's finance chief has previously ruled out increases to income tax, national insurance, VAT or corporation tax — the main sources of government revenues. However, Reeves must orchestrate a delicate balance act given the pledges from her party to also boost national investment and public sector pay.

The reality of the American air travel system is that powerful forces keep passengers flying the same carriers, even after service meltdowns like Delta just suffered. For passengers who live near one of the hubs where Delta controls most of the flights, such as Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis or Salt Lake City, choices are even more limited. But by Monday, the problems were mostly limited to Delta as other businesses were back to normal, adding to the frustration of its passengers. Delta canceled more than 4,400 flights from July 19 to 21, according to tracking service FlightAware. Past experience, plus the dominance of Delta in Atlanta and Don Hooper’s frequent flyer miles, would keep them using the airline.

CNN —Manhattan prosecutors said there is no basis to overturn Donald Trump’s conviction in the hush money case after the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity. Any error, they argued in a filing Thursday, is “harmless” when viewed against “overwhelming evidence” of the former president’s guilt. Prosecutors with the Manhattan district attorney’s office said the conviction should stand. They also noted that Trump’s attorneys didn’t raise objections during the trial to most of the evidence they now question, arguing they can’t now challenge it after the trial. According to Hicks, Trump said it would have been bad for Stormy Daniels’ allegations to have come out before the election.
