Read previewThe Iowa Caucuses in mid-January marked the beginning of the primary season for the Republican Party. And while it's the only event that's even been completed thus far, party officials have already dubbed former President Donald Trump as the "presumptive nominee." Rep. Richard Hudson, the chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, and Sen. Steve Daines, chair of the National Congressional Senate Committee, both made the comments after Florida Gov. "Donald Trump is the presumptive nominee," Daines said. "He is the presumptive nominee.

The oeuvre of director Norman Jewison, who died this past weekend at the age of 97, can’t be simply categorized. Here are some films of his available to stream, no matter your mood. Without telling his wife, Judy Kimball (Day), George goes about trying to make sure she is set for when he dies, including finding her a new man to marry when he’s gone. It’s a classically zany rom-com from the era, but the film also shows Day and Hudson at their most vulnerable as they untangle all these complications. It’s a sign of what was to come from Jewison, who always found the emotional core of his characters and allowed actors to do some of their best work.

NEW YORK (AP) — Norman Jewison, the acclaimed and versatile Canadian-born director whose Hollywood films ranged from Doris Day comedies and “Moonstruck” to social dramas such as the Oscar-winning "In the Heat of the Night," has died at age 97. Throughout his long career, Jewison combined light entertainment with topical films that appealed to him on a deeply personal level. (Jewison lost out for best director to Mike Nichols of "The Graduate"). Among those who encouraged Jewison while making “In the Heat of the Night”: Robert F. Kennedy, whom the director met during a ski trip in Sun Valley, Idaho. Jewison shifted to feature films in 1963 with the comedy “40 Pounds of Trouble,” starring Tony Curtis and Suzanne Pleshette.

The narrow margin in Congress leaves both major parties fighting fiercely for every available seat in 2024. “By Lauren Boebert district shopping and becoming a carpetbagger so she can keep her office in D.C., she has now become part of the swamp,” he said. In his first game back from an eight-month ban, Toney scored from a free kick to help Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 on Saturday and end a skid of five straight Premier League losses. I’m just buzzing to be back and scoring goals and playing for the team. Frank even gave Toney the captain's armband for this game, indicating how important his return is for the west London club. Toney led his team with 20 goals in 33 league games last season before being handed the ban in May. With the return of Toney, any thoughts of a relegation scrap for Brentford might soon be in the past.

The big storyDon't let the weekend get away from youJLPH / Getty ImageWeekends seem like such a simple concept — two days away from work. Plan "anchor events" for your weekendAdvertisementVanderkam defined an anchor event as something you want to do during the weekend — any activity that's loosely planned ahead of time. She recommends thinking of the weekend in five chunks: Friday night, Saturday day, Saturday night, Sunday day, Sunday night. People can experiment with balancing responsibilities and free time, she said, since creating a fulfilling weekend is so individualized and requires work. Haselberger recommends that people ask themselves: What can you do on the weekend that is outside of something that you would normally do to make the weekend feel like it was a prolonged period of time?

Experts said the housing crisis is making the already high student-debt load in the country worse. But with housing costs spiking, living expenses are a big part of the story for many. Darrell Owens, a policy analyst at California YIMBY — an advocacy organization working to end California's housing crisis — noted that the student housing crisis exacerbates the broader housing crisis. Cities across the eastern U.S. are preparing for a major storm system that will damper weekend plans when it brings torrential rain, high winds and severe thunderstorms to the East Coast. On Sunday, torrential rain is expected for nearly the entire state of Florida. Severe thunderstorms that could bring isolated nocturnal tornadoes in parts of the state, including Tampa and Orlando, are also possible. Heavy rain and strong winds are expected on the Mid-Atlanta coast. The NWS warned, however, that conditions will begin to deteriorate late Sunday into Monday when the storm "brings drenching precipitation and gusty winds to southern New England."
