The streaming company gained over 2 million subscribers — avoiding the third straight quarter of subscriber losses. The results appear to have been enough for Netflix to take a victory lap. "We're in the business of entertaining our members with Netflix movies on Netflix," he said. It will stop providing membership guidance in future earnings reports. In other words, Netflix continues to think that the future of entertainment is still, undeniably, Netflix.
Netflix added 2.4 million new subscribers in its most recent quarter, topping expectations that it would add 1 million. According to a Wedbush survey of Netflix users, he said, people most likely to opt into the ad-supported tier are those who would have otherwise quit the platform. Netflix has also foreshadowed a crackdown on password sharing, with plans to launch a paid family offering next year. Netflix estimates 100 million households worldwide are using shared passwords — 30 million of them in North America. NEW YORK, Oct 18 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Netflix (NFLX.O) is fluffing it's feathers. The company co-founded by Reed Hastings snapped out of its subscriber losing streak, generating nearly $500 million in free cash flow after netting 2.4 million new subscribers in the third quarter. The reversal is a welcome change, and gives it a little bit of room to strut its stuff ahead of an impending price war. That gives it but a tiny bit of time to be smug. New York CNN Business —What was once believed unthinkable is now a reality: Netflix with ads is here. The streaming giant unveiled “Basic with Ads,” its much anticipated ad-supported subscription plan, on Thursday. “As we learn from and improve the experience, we expect to launch in more countries over time.”The debut of the ad-supported subscription plan is a momentous moment in Netflix 25-year history. In July, Netflix announced that it will partner with Microsoft (MSFT) to enhance sales and technology for this new subscription plan. Ultimately, the Netflix of the future is bound to look different than the Netflix users have come to know.
Netflix will begin sharing audience viewing figures in the UK, pitting it against the BBC. The move comes alongside the launch of an ad-supported tier and increased regulatory scrutiny. Netflix will give viewing figures to the body, allowing it to be compared with UK channels from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and satellite broadcaster Sky. Netflix has closely guarded the audience figures for most of its programs, but does reveal the 10 most popular shows each week by hours viewed. The UK figures will show the total number of views for Netflix programs, as well as audience share and average daily minutes.

The Inflation Reduction Act is set to lower drug prices for millions of people in the United States — but experts fear pharmaceutical companies could exploit loopholes in the bill, ultimately keeping prescription costs high for many. The tactics may ultimately threaten the law’s ability to lower drug costs for consumers. Higher prices for new drugsOther experts are concerned about how companies might abuse the inflation rebate rule in the health law. The provision, which takes effect next year, imposes a rebate on drug manufacturers that raise the prices of their medications faster than inflation. By releasing new drugs at higher prices, drug companies will be able to make up for any lost revenue that they would normally receive from steadily raising prices each year, she said.
Netflix: About 150 peopleNetflix Co-CEO Reed Hastings. Getty Images LatamNetflix laid off around 150 people in mid-May, its second round of layoffs in 2022. The latest layoffs, which impacted "mostly US-based" staff, were due to "slowing revenue growth," according to a statement from a Netflix spokesperson. And executives warned at the time that further subscriber losses were predicted for the future. They blamed "revenue growth headwinds" in a report to shareholders and said that heavy Netflix use during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic had "obscured the picture until recently."

He raised concerns of “disparate treatment in compensation” to those above him, including to CEO James Gregory. Gregory told Mr. Staley that he was ‘disappointed’ in Mr. Staley for complaining of race discrimination and responded to Mr. Staley’s complaint by saying: ‘you make enough,’” according to the suit, which was filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Peter Thiel and Mark Zuckerberg have known each other since 2004, when Thiel became Facebook's first major investor. Some believe Thiel acted as Zuckerberg's "puppet master," and Facebook employees noticed that Zuckerberg seemed to rely on Thiel in an unusual and sometimes concerning way. Zuckerberg told Thiel he should resign from Facebook's board of directors in August 2017. Thiel underestimated Facebook's potential and told Zuckerberg to sell the company in its second year. When Yahoo offered to buy Facebook for $1 billion, Thiel told Zuckerberg to take the deal — but then-22-year-old CEO said no.

There’s even a name to describe the irrational dread of the date: paraskevidekatriaphobia — a specialized form of triskaidekaphobia, a fear of the number 13. What we do know, though, is that both Friday and the number 13 have been regarded as unlucky in certain cultures throughout history. Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code" popularized the erroneous theory this is the original of the Friday the 13th superstition. If we dig deeper, though, we also find evidence that both Fridays and the number 13 have long been regarded as a harbinger of good fortune. “Every time I’ve won an award I’ve been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section or row M, which is the 13th letter.

However, you also don't earn rewards like you would with a credit card, you don't get the time to pay off your balance like you would with a credit card, and you don't build credit like you would with a credit card. Ask for your debit cardWhen you are opening your checking account, tell the banking representative you would like a debit card to be linked to your account. Activate your debit cardWhen you receive your debit card, it will need to be activated, which is as simple as visiting a website or calling the bank's dedicated phone number. Figure out where you should use your debit cardWhile you can generally use a debit card at any ATM, you'll usually have to pay a fee for the privilege of using one that isn't affiliated with the bank or credit union that issued the debit card. Act quickly if your debit card is lost or stolenBecause your debit card pulls funds directly from your checking account, it's important to take swift action if your card is lost or stolen.
Patty McCord, Netflix's first HR head, said three questions can help you decide whether to quit. Ask yourself whether you're doing something you love, you're good at, and your company needs. For example, early in your career, you may want nothing more than to work 24/7 on something you're passionate about. On the flip side, McCord said, if the company moves into a different business or its objectives evolve, the work you're doing may no longer be crucial. Ultimately, if you're weighing the decision to leave your job, know that McCord's algorithm won't necessarily spit out a yes-or-no answer — at least not immediately.
