Prince William will touch down in New York on Monday for a two-day visit – primarily to attend the second Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit. William and Kate visit Câr-Y-Môr Seaweed Farm, a key partner of 2022 Earthshot Prize winner Notpla, in St. Davids, Wales on September 8, 2023. “In addition to unveiling this year’s Earthshot finalists next week, you’re also going to see Prince William sitting down with the UN Secretary-General and other world leaders… This really is the evolution of Prince William as the global statesman,” a close aide said. This trip’s timing also appears to be quite fortuitous, in that it comes weeks after Prince William topped a new poll as America’s most popular public figure. A huge crowd of well-wishers greets the Prince of Wales while in Massachusetts last December.

While a civil suit lodged against KLM (AIRF.PA) in the Netherlands is one of the most prominent, complaints and cases against other airlines have been mounting. Lockwood said the ASA would use machine learning tools to scan online advertising to catch potentially misleading wording. Separately, the Austrian advertising watchdog told Lufthansa's Austrian Airlines arm last year to stop making claims about a carbon neutral flight using biofuel. The lawsuit alleges that carbon offset programmes don't work as advertised and the company misled consumers. The company is investing in newer planes and sustainable fuel to "decarbonise" its operations, the person added.

REUTERS/ Regis Duvignau/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsPARIS, Sept 12 (Reuters) - Apple must stop selling its iPhone 12 model in France due to above-threshold radiation levels, France's junior minister for the digital economy told newspaper Le Parisien in an interview published on Tuesday. France's radiation watchdog ANFR notified Apple of its decision to ban iPhone 12 sales after it had carried out tests which showed the smartphone's Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) was slightly higher than legally allowed, Jean-Noel Barrot told the paper. Barrot said a software update would be sufficient to fix the radiation issues linked to the phone which the U.S. company has been selling since 2020. The French watchdog will now pass on its findings to regulators in other EU member states. In 2020, France widened regulations requiring retailers to display the radiation value of products on packaging beyond cell phones, including tablets and other electronic devices.

REUTERS/Luisa Gonzalez/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsCompanies Ecopetrol SA FollowBOGOTA, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Colombia's government is considering revising rules to make majority state-run energy company Ecopetrol (ECO.CN) an obligatory partner in every offshore wind project, three people familiar with the matter told Reuters. If approved, the revision would make it "mandatory for Ecopetrol to take part in each offshore project," another source told Reuters. Having Ecopetrol partner up with other companies on offshore wind farms would "minimize the risks of new projects" one of the sources said, adding that the size of any given Ecopetrol stake would be "very, very small," without hinting at possible percentages. Ecopetrol's involvement in offshore wind projects would help shore up energy self sufficiency, another of the sources said. Plans to hold the bidding round to assign maritime blocks for offshore wind farms are running behind.

Artificial intelligence can help tackle climate change, but to fulfill that promise companies need to find a way to limit AI’s own climate impact. Alphabet’s Google and American Airlines used AI to help planes create fewer vapor trails, which contribute to global warming. For many companies using AI there are both positive and negative effects on their carbon emissions and water use. In the U.S., where there is no central electric grid, training models in one state versus another can have a significant impact on carbon emissions. A Google data center in Oregon.

In 2021, the clothing brand teamed up with the carbon-accounting startup Watershed to track carbon emissions, mostly from Everlane's supply chain, using data collection. Everlane is one of several companies using carbon-accounting startups to track emissions and put a dollar amount on their carbon footprints. Investment by venture-capital firms in carbon-accounting startups surged from $60 million in 2020 to $767 million in 2022, according to PitchBook. But it's challenging to precisely monitor this since companies' emissions are not the same, and they often overlap. The startup works with small, midsize, and enterprise companies, including Virgin Atlantic.

A report last year by the non-profit Climate Policy Initiative found Africa has received only 12% of the finance it needs to cope with climate impacts. The thousands of delegates are expected to debate solutions ahead of a U.N. climate summit next month in New York in September and the COP28 U.N. summit in the United Arab Emirates from the end of November. The summit's organisers also say they expect deals worth hundreds of millions of dollars to be concluded in Nairobi. In June, it hosted an auction where companies from Saudi Arabia bought more than 2.2 million tonnes of carbon credits. One project generating carbon credits in Kenya is BURN Manufacturing's production of clean cooking stoves to replace heavily polluting wood and charcoal-based fires.

MP Materials is poised to gain from a growing market for rare earth products, according to JPMorgan. The stock has pulled back despite the price of neodymium praseodymium alloy climbing about 8% this quarter. Meanwhile, Peterson said demand could approximately double by 2030 as electric vehicles and wind turbines — both of which can utilize rare earth magnets from the alloy — gain favor. The U.S.-based company is also increasingly attractive as geopolitical rifts with China, a major supplier in the rare earth supply chain, escalate. MP is considered one of only two "sizable" producers of rare earth oxides outside of the country by Peterson's count.

The orange juice was also a little pulpy and separated overnight—a common occurrence with both centrifugal juicers we tested. Others you should know aboutGreat multiuse juicerKuvings’s 4-in-1 masticating juicer comes with attachments to make smoothies, sorbets and nut milks, too. Masticating juicers use a rotating, screw-shaped augur to crush and press fresh produce to extract juice, while centrifugal juicers rely on a high-speed spinning metal blade to pulverize produce into a mesh filter. Masticating juicers are slower and cost more, but often have higher yields and are therefore less wasteful (which we found to be true in our testing). Centrifugal juicers are faster and more powerful, but create foamier juice that’s more likely to separate.

A referendum held in April gave Parisians two choices regarding the rental scooters: for or against. Many cities have introduced restrictions on scooters, such as speed limits and parking zones enforced via fines for users. However, outright bans by cities that have previously welcomed them are rare. In Europe, Madrid this year reversed a prior ban to allow rental firms back with new conditions, as Copenhagen also did in 2021. Tourist hotspots New Orleans and Las Vegas both have ride-share e-scooter bans, but they remain in 158 other U.S. cities.

CNN —Ecuadorians have voted to ban oil drilling in one of the most biodiverse places on the planet, the Yasuní National Park, situated in the Amazon rainforest. The Yasuní National Park park spans around 1 million hectares (2.5 million acres) at the meeting point of the Amazon, the Andes and the Equator. In 2016, the Ecuadorian state oil company began drilling in Block 43 – around 0.01% of the National Park – which today produces more than 55,000 barrels a day, amounting to around 12% of Ecuador’s oil production. Yasunidos, an environmental collective, has been pushing for the vote to ban drilling in the park for a decade. “This referendum presents a huge opportunity for us to create change in a tangible way,” Helena Gualinga, an Indigenous rights advocate from a remote village in the Ecuadorian Amazon, told CNN.

Wind turbines and solar panels are seen at a wind and solar energy storage and transmission power station from State Grid Corporation of China, in Zhangjiakou of Hebei province, China, March 18, 2016. GLOBAL REACH WITH BACKHAUL POTENTIALChina's recyclers also have strong international supply lines thanks to the country's vast export-oriented manufacturing sector and resulting dominance in global shipping container trade. ECO-FRIENDLY ECOSYSTEMSChina's plan to develop a large scale recycling sector for the renewables industry is in keeping with the country's practice of developing interdependent ecosystems around key industries. The country aims to develop similar strongholds in auto and electronics manufacturing, and may now extend that framework to the renewables energy sector, which Beijing has identified as a key industry for the remainder of this century. For recycling firms based elsewhere that had been planning to scale up their handling of older green energy equipment, the prospect of a government-backed competitor in China may be a cause for concern.
