The newly-opened Surat Diamond Bourse is billed as a “one-stop destination” for over 65,000 diamond professionals, including cutters, polishers and traders. The trading center’s architects say it comprises over 7.1 million square feet of floor space, which would mean it has surpassed the Pentagon as the world’s largest office building. According to the project’s CEO, Mahesh Gadhavi, Surat Diamond Bourse will save thousands of people from traveling — sometimes daily — to Mumbai by train to do business. On a 90-degree day in early May, hundreds of migrants were gathered on American soil near a border gate in El Paso. Many had waited for days, without food, shelter or enough water and bathrooms, before Border Patrol agents allowed them through the gate and took them to holding facilities. The contrast in scenes illustrates a central challenge of Customs and Border Protection’s mission. The agency, which includes the Border Patrol, was created after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Even as few pose security threats, the American government has been sending the biggest law enforcement agency in the country to arrest and subsequently care for refugees.

VidCon, the conference for creators, professionals, and fans returned this year in Anaheim, CA. Last week, creators and industry professionals came together at the Anaheim Convention Center for VidCon. Beyond the panels, parties, and meet-and-greets, the real magic of VidCon was happening offsite, at nearby restaurants and bars where brands, agencies, and startups hosted exclusive invite-only mixers. At this year's VidCon, the divide between creator and fan faded, and many attendees identified with both. Snapping a photo with a successful creator became less valuable than actual time spent learning the secrets to their success.

People often want to know if an extreme weather event happened because of climate change, said Friederike Otto, climate scientist and co-lead of the World Weather Attribution initiative. And, more often than not, they are finding the clear fingerprints of climate change on extreme weather events. “We’re always going to have extreme weather, but if we keep driving in this direction, we’re gonna have a lot of extreme weather,” said Ted Scambos, a glaciologist at the University of Colorado-Boulder. GE Healthcare (GEHC) shares are sliding Thursday, giving Club members an opportunity to invest in the medical-technology company at an increasingly attractive valuation. The noise around this transaction seems to be dragging down GE Healthcare shares. Thursday's declines push GE Healthcare shares below our cost basis of $79.47, which typically is a welcome development for a newer, smaller position. Essentially, what's happening now is General Electric is exchanging more than a quarter of its GEHC shares in a deal with Morgan Stanley. So, it's hardly a surprise to see General Electric monetizing some of its GE Healthcare stake to improve its balance sheet.
