CNN —Sydney has been officially elevated to the ranks of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, becoming the seventh city to join the prestigious series. Starting in 2025, the Sydney Marathon will become the first major marathon in the Southern Hemisphere as it joins elite races in Boston, New York, Chicago, London, Berlin and Tokyo. Abbott World Marathon Majors CEO Dawna Stone said she was “thrilled” that Sydney will become the seventh major, while complimenting the hard work of the race’s organizers. In September, a record 20,272 runners finished the race, helping it clear its second consecutive assessment to become an Abbott World Marathon Major. CNN —Tornadoes and flooding spawned by severe thunderstorms tore through parts of Oklahoma overnight, leaving at least six people injured and shredding homes and other properties. The National Weather Service issued warnings for parts of both states Sunday afternoon. The severe weather is expected to move from west to east Sunday, the weather service said. Tornadoes were reported just east of Oklahoma City, and tornado and thunderstorm warnings were in place through early morning in the Oklahoma City area, the weather service said. Cue’s father, who moved to Oklahoma City from Kansas about two years ago, was also injured when the roof collapsed on him.

Israel’s air force pounded Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiyeh overnight, destroying dozens of buildings in several neighborhoods, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said Friday. CNN —Eight people were killed in the Serbian town of Novi Sad on Friday when the roof of a railway station collapsed, according to the country’s interior minister. Rescuers were at the scene of the accident within minutes of an emergency call being made, according to Dacic. APSerbia’s Prime Minister, Milos Vucevic, offered his condolences to families of victims affected by the incident, while thanking first responders. According to CNN affiliate N1, the railway station’s roof was renovated in 2021. More renovation work took place months later, and the building was officially reopened on July 5 this year.
