WASHINGTON — A group of national security experts led by Cabinet members from the Trump administration endorsed former President Donald Trump on Wednesday, citing his foreign policy record and calling him "a peacemaker." The group, organized by former Trump national security adviser Robert O'Brien and former National Security Council chief of staff Alex Gray, wrote in a letter that "securing peace" is "the legacy of Trump." The letter comes amid an escalating conflict in the Middle East between Iran and Israel, as well as Russia's war in Ukraine. "The policies of the Biden-Harris Administration have invited conflict, diminished America’s standing around the globe, and imperiled our national security," the letter says. The signers do not include Trump's first secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, or his secretaries of defense, James Mattis and Mark Esper.

ZOUK MOSBEH, Lebanon — Israeli airstrikes and its burgeoning ground invasion have forced dozens of Lebanese Christians to take shelter in a monastery close to the border with Israel. Milad Louis, head of the municipality of Ain Ebel, a largely Christian town, said Israeli airstrikes forced the community to evacuate in just 45 minutes. Lebanese military personnel direct civilians Tuesday in the town of Rmeish along the border with Israel. Some 70 villagers were given shelter in the nearby monastery and school, with residents also opening up their homes to 30 fleeing the violence nearby, according to monastery officials. Prosecutor Ute Lindemann argued that he should be convicted of two counts of rape and two of sexual abuse, and should be kept in preventive detention after he has served a 15-year sentence, German news agency dpa reported. The suspect hasn’t been charged in the McCann case, in which he is under investigation on suspicion of murder. He is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence in Germany for a rape he committed in Portugal in 2005. There are no formal pleas in the German legal system and there is no obligation for defendants to respond. In July, the court lifted an arrest warrant in the cases at stake in the current trial, citing a lack of “urgent suspicion” against the defendant.

Alliance Defending Freedom senior counsel Bryan Neihart in a statement on Monday said it was common for the prevailing party in a civil rights case to ask for and receive legal fees after winning in court. Arizona-based Alliance Defending Freedom is a faith-based legal advocacy organization that pursues lawsuits related to religious liberty. In Smith’s bid for fees, Alliance Defending Freedom said its $2 million request would reimburse them for 2,174.4 hours of work on the litigation. CNN —All signs suggest that the partisan divide over changing gender roles in society could widen even further in the 2024 election, adding a new source of uncertainty to a contest already on a knife’s edge. That was only the latest example of his campaign signaling its support for traditional gender roles. “The messaging on gender coming out of the campaign broadly is very much about reaffirming traditional roles for women and for men,” Cassese said. In PRRI polling this year, nearly half of Republicans agreed with two absolutist statements about gender roles. His problem is that most voters outside the core GOP coalition are generally comfortable with the changes in gender roles and family dynamics since the “Father Knows Best” era in the 1950s.
