Donald Trump's return to the White House sparked a big move higher in small-cap stocks. Small-cap stocks were seen as potential winners under a second Trump presidency, as investors expect it would ease regulations on businesses — which tend to weigh more heavily on smaller businesses. Wednesday's gains in small caps were led by private prison stocks Geo Group and CoreCivic , which were up roughly 20% each. Small-cap stocks have trailed their large-cap counterparts this year. Notably, small caps outperformed in the 3mos after both the Trump 2016 and Biden 2020 wins."

Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy meet at Trump Tower in New York City, U.S., September 27, 2024. Posting on X, Zelenskyy praised Trump on his "impressive election victory" and said he was optimistic that he and the former U.S. president, who has threatened to cut Ukraine funding quickly if re-elected, could work together toward peace in Ukraine. That would make it easy for a Republican administration to block future military funding for Ukraine. The U.S. election, and the future of that funding and support, was seen as a make-or-break moment for Kyiv. CNN —Republican former Sen. Kelly Ayotte will win the New Hampshire governor’s race, CNN projects, completing a political comeback eight years after she lost her Senate seat. Ayotte defeated Democratic former Manchester Mayor Joyce Craig in the race to replace outgoing GOP Gov. The race was a test of whether local interests or the national political atmosphere would play the most important role in influencing Granite State voters. Democrats attempted to nationalize it, tying Ayotte to former President Donald Trump and attacking her on abortion rights. Hillary Clinton won there by just half a point in 2016, but President Joe Biden won by 7 points in 2020.

Memecoins surged early Wednesday on the back of election results that showed former President Donald Trump in a strong position to gain a second term. "Certain sectors that have buoyed prices, such as the renewed interest in memecoins, may experience major price movements as individual states report election results." In the lead-up to Election Day, memecoins and AI-related crypto tokens outperformed the overall crypto market. The sector of the crypto market is used as a measure of retail investors' risk appetite. The crypto market seemed to be positioning for a Trump victory Wednesday as investors monitored the results of the U.S. presidential election.

While on the campaign trail, Trump threatened retribution against some tech companies, including jailing Meta's chief, Mark Zuckerberg. "That is likely to have devastating consequences for US tech companies that sell in foreign markets as well as crippling domestic consumption." Hay said that while most presidents wouldn't have any say on existing cases, "Trump is a bit more of a wild card." But multiplex owners are hoping that “Wicked” and “Gladiator II” achieve something close as the pink-and-green musical and the Colosseum-set action epic land in theaters on Nov. 22. “The industry is looking at ‘Wicked,’ ‘Gladiator II’ and ‘Moana 2’ as a Holy Trinity of moviegoing,” says Robbins. Overall domestic box office revenues are down more than 11% from 2023 and nearly 27% from 2019, according to Comscore. Newer attempts like Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story” remake, Chu’s “In the Heights,” “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Cats” and “The Color Purple” all fizzled at the box office despite being based on popular productions. “Gladiator II,” too, must prove to audiences there’s a reason to return to the arena a quarter century after the first film became a Colosseum-sized blockbuster.

On the last day of a brutal, wild and tightly contested campaign, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris blitzed voters Monday with their final pleas for turnout. Harris and Trump both put their emphasis Monday on Pennsylvania, suggesting they still believe "Keystone State" is more than just a nickname. Its 19 electoral votes went for Trump in 2016 and Biden, who abandoned his re-election bid this summer, in 2020. Harris in particular focused on Pennsylvania, barnstorming the state with all four of her final-day rallies. Most of the rest of the country is considered safe turf for either Harris or Trump.

New York CNN —Journalists from multiple news organizations have been denied credentials to former President Donald Trump’s election night watch event in West Palm Beach, Florida, in retaliation for their coverage of Trump’s campaign. Reporters at Politico, Axios, Puck, Voice of America and Mother Jones were among those denied credentials. Some, like Politico, had been previously granted access to the Tuesday night event only to have the decision reversed. But around the time Palmeri published a piece about “anxiety” within the Trump campaign, her credential was denied. The Trump campaign and his former administration have a history of revoking credentials for reporters, often in retribution over their coverage.

Research shows that ordering food for delivery has gotten expensive, yet demand remains high. But demand for food delivery has remained high — as has its price. Last week, food delivery company DoorDash, reported an 18% rise in orders year over year in its third quarter of 2024. A food delivery driver previously told BI that he decides to accept or pass on a variety of deliveries often based on the highest upfront tips. But despite lockdowns coming to an end and the country gradually opening back up, people grew accustomed to the trend of ordering food.
