July 27 (Reuters) - Forvia's (FRVIA.PA) shares fell as much as 8% in early trading on Thursday, after a slight hike to the car parts maker's annual targets failed to impress investors. The world's seventh-largest automotive supplier raised its estimate for global auto production to around 86 million light vehicles this year, from 82 million previously. It forecast 2023 sales of 26.5-27.5 billion euros ($29.4-30.5 billion), up from an earlier range of 25.2-26.2 billion. Global automotive production grew more than 10% in the first half of the year, on sustained demand and gradual improvement in semiconductors supply, CEO Patrick Koller said in a statement. Forvia's half-year operating profit jumped nearly 70% to 675 million euros, but was 2% below analysts' consensus estimates, according to a research note by J.P.Morgan.

July 26 (Reuters) - Contract chipmaker Tower Semiconductor topped second-quarter revenue estimates on Wednesday on the back of solid demand from the automotive industry, sending its U.S.-listed shares up 12.7%. Israel-based Tower provides customers with analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, mainly for the automotive and consumer industries. Its revenue came in at $357 million for the quarter ended June 30, higher than the $354.53 million expected by analysts, according to Refinitiv data. Tower reported net income per share of 46 cents, falling slightly short of analysts' estimates of 49 cents per share. During the quarter, the company repaid $10 million of its debt, as compared with $27 million in the first quarter of 2023.

TOKYO, July 21 (Reuters) - Toyota Motor (7203.T) plans to use regenerative fuel cell technology to power a manned lunar rover, executives said on Friday, raising the prospect of eventually using the moon's water ice as an energy source in the future. It is participating in NASA's Artemis programme and plans to have an astronaut at a lunar space station called Gateway as part of that in the latter half of the 2020's. Toyota has teamed up with Japan's space agency since 2019 to develop the manned lunar rover - which it dubbed the Lunar Cruiser - that they hope can be put on the moon in 2029. NASA expects Japan to provide a lunar rover with a 2029 target launch date as a contribution to the Artemis programme, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency said in presentation materials on Friday. A fuel cell vehicle uses an electric motor like an electric vehicle but draws power from a fuel stack where hydrogen is separated by a catalyst to produce electricity.

BERLIN, July 7 (Reuters) - Continental (CONG.DE) said on Friday it plans to phase out business activities at its Gifhorn plant by the end of 2027, with 450 out of 900 jobs at the site affected. The decision was taken "against the backdrop of the sharp increase in cost pressure in the automotive industry, the declining automotive markets, and the high and by international standards uncompetitive cost structure at the site", the company said in a statement. The measures will include relocation of the assembly of latest-generation air supply systems in 2024, relocation of the spare parts business from 2024, and outsourcing of valve block and piston head production to suppliers by the end of 2027. The supervisory board supports the initial measures but will decide on the phase-out at its December meeting, the company said. June 27 (Reuters) - Tesla's (TSLA.O) electric-vehicle charging technology is being put on a fast track to become a U.S. standard, the automotive industry group of engineers that reviews standards said on Tuesday. Tesla's NACS standard has been gathering momentum for weeks. General Motors (GM.N) and Ford (F.N) have said they would embrace Tesla's NACS, shunning earlier efforts by the Biden administration to make the Combined Charging System (CCS) the dominant charging standard in the United States. On Tuesday the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) said it would start an expedited process to review NACS as a potential public standard. "The new SAE NACS connector standard will be developed on an expedited timeframe and is one of several key initiatives to strengthen the North American EV charging infrastructure," the engineers group said in a statement.
