Burberry will use its British heritage appeal to win back customers by focusing on trench coats and scarves and be less ambitious with prices on bags and shoes, the loss-making luxury brand said in a revamp that sent its shares up sharply. “We took pricing too high across the board,” Schulman told investors and analysts, setting out his assessment of what went wrong at Burberry. Pricing strategy shiftSchulman told reporters Burberry would add more lower-priced “entry-level” products to its range as part of a pricing shift. But he said Burberry’s positioning would remain in luxury and there were no plans to make it an “accessible” luxury brand. Leather goods and shoes underperformed in the first half, Burberry said, while outerwear did better than average.

Disney CEO Bob Iger and Donald Trump publicly sparred during Trump's first presidential term. During Trump's first term, Iger seemed to publicly align with his opposition. "A Kamala presidency would have meant the same exact things for crypto and digital assets in four years' time as a Trump presidency," Brokate says. Part of crypto's upward price momentum stems from investor optimism in what a Republican-controlled government could mean for digital assets, Brokate says. But forward-looking investors say that the current market for crypto is barely scratching the surface of potential investor demand. That is, crypto advocates say, if the U.S. government provides a clearer regulatory framework for financial institutions to market and sell crypto and other digital assets to customers. Ideally, crypto enthusiasts say, the U.S. would eventually establish regulatory frameworks similar to the one that exists in Europe known as MiCA — Markets in Crypto Assets.

Amazon on Thursday announced Prime members can access new fixed pricing for treatment of conditions like erectile dysfunction and men's hair loss, its latest effort to compete with other direct-to-consumer marketplaces such as Hims & Hers Health and Ro. Medications filled through Amazon Pharmacy are eligible for discounted pricing and will be delivered to patients' doors in standard Amazon packaging. Analysts at Bank of America downgraded shares of Hims & Hers from buy to underperform on Thursday, citing Amazon's push into hair loss and erectile dysfunction markets. The analysts said Hims & Hers generates more than 80% gross margins from its core erectile dysfunction and hair loss offerings, and estimate that Amazon's medications for those conditions are about 42% and 29% cheaper respectively. In the race against the US for global tech supremacy, China has the upper hand in at least one critical area: rare earths. Now, there are fears that China could tighten the global rare earths supply chain even more. China's rare earth dominanceChina has long dominated the rare earths market due to supply, low labor costs, and lax environmental standards. The recall last week of two Bay Area officials who both championed progressive crime policies reflects long-held frustrations around a previous increase in violence targeting the Asian American community, experts say. The vote is indicative of Asian Americans’ rightward shift toward tougher crime policies like much of the state, analysts say. From March 2020 to December 2021, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country reported nearly 11,000 hate incidents, including verbal and physical abuse, being coughed at or spat on, and facing discrimination in the workplace. “And a lot of people say, ‘Oh, we’ve moved on from that era.’ I don’t think Asian Americans have,” said James Zarsadiaz, author of “Resisting Change in Suburbia,” whose research focuses on Asian American conservatism. In San Francisco, for example, officials received 60 reports of hate crimes against Asian Americans in 2021, compared with the nine in 2020.

A Wall Street Journal report Tuesday evening said a bankruptcy filing is expected to happen within weeks, as talks with Frontier Airlines to possibly buy Spirit (SAVE) broke down recently. Because of those discussions, the company said, Spirit is unable able to complete its third-quarter financial report by the prescribed time. While Spirit management tried to move ahead with the Frontier deal, its shareholders rejected the offer and Spirit ultimately agreed to the JetBlue deal instead. It argued such a combination would hurt airline passengers because it would reduce the number of inexpensive airline tickets — putting upward pressure on airfares overall. In January 2024 a federal judge agreed with DOJ’s argument and blocked the JetBlue deal.

Reuters —Europe’s biggest meal delivery firm, Just Eat Takeaway, said on Wednesday it had struck a deal to sell its U.S. unit Grubhub to Wonder for $650 million, sending its shares soaring 20% in early trading. “Just Eat Takeaway is at last putting an end to its disastrous U.S. journey,” Bryan Garnier analyst Clement Genelot said, noting the group had destroyed more than $7 billion in shareholder value there. Grubhub’s enterprise value of $650 million includes $500 million of senior notes and $150 million cash, Wonder said in a statement. Just Eat CEO Jitse Groen had in February said the M&A environment was not easy in the U.S., where fee caps cost the group some $100 million per year. JPMorgan said in a note it had argued for an about $1.2 billion valuation for Grubhub in the past, but the market would view the long-awaited deal as positive even at a lower valuation.
