A Reuters witness at the scene has said he was struck by missiles fired from the direction of Israel. "We are aware of the incident with the Reuters journalist," army spokesman Lt Col Richard Hecht told a regular briefing. While other news outlets, including the Associated Press and Al Jazeera, said the shells were Israeli, Reuters could not establish whether the missiles had actually been fired by Israel. Agence France-Presse and Al Jazeera each said two of their journalists were wounded in the incident.

JERUSALEM, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Israel's military said on Saturday its artillery had struck Syrian areas from which two rockets were fired toward Israeli territory, falling in open areas. The military also said it had fired an interceptor toward what it described as a "suspicious target" that crossed from Lebanon into Israeli territory. The Syrian projectiles set off sirens in the northern Israeli town of Alma, near the Lebanese border, and in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights town of Avnei Eitan, the military said. Israel has traded fire with Lebanon's Hezbollah and militants in Syria in recent days, a wider conflict over its northern border as it battles Islamist Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip following a deadly attack in Israel. Ackman, in his initial tweet about Harvard, said that "a number of CEOs" shared his desire to publicly out the Harvard students who condemned Israel. Other business leaders were quick to echo his calls, winning plaudits on social media. In a visit to Harvard, Insider spoke with a range of students about the backlash to the statement on Israel. It's ironic, of course, to accuse students of silencing dissent when Ackman and other business leaders are seeking to do exactly that. But now, some Harvard students fear that the backlash from the business community will have a chilling effect on student speech.

"The names of the signatories should be made public," Ackman fumed, "so their views are publicly known." Look, it's classic Wall Street to complain about the younger generation being a bunch of good-for-nothing freaks. It's also classic Wall Street to throw money around as a way to exercise power over institutions, forcing rivals you dislike to bend the knee. In his initial post, Ackman said that "a number of CEOs" shared his desire to publicly out the Harvard students. By clinging to legacy admissions, colleges are not only undermining claims of advancing equality but may be shooting themselves in the financial foot. 'A weak and sad excuse'The legacy preference has always been a dance of public intentions and private subtext. While the rationales for preserving legacy admissions have evolved, the propensity to obfuscate them hasn't. Harvard's massive $50 billion endowment makes it pretty clear: the school doesn't need to keep legacy admissions anymore. When Wesleyan announced it was dropping legacy admissions Roth was adamant that it was the right move.

Emma Tucker's Wall Street Journal laid off staff in its Hong Kong bureau, and three company insiders said they were bracing for more cuts in the newsroom. The Hong Kong layoffs affected seven editors on a desk that puts finishing touches on stories before they're published, two sources said. People with direct knowledge said they believed the company was looking to save money by shifting the work to other offices. The Hong Kong cuts came shortly after Tucker revealed in September her plan to revive the newsroom with an "audience-first" model, which has fueled speculation that a reorg could be on the way. Hong Kong is the latest example of cuts to the storied newsroom that have dribbled out over the past few months, in keeping with the Journal's practice of trimming small numbers of people.
