Despite its ubiquity, the play has had only one other Off Broadway production since its premiere — in 2004, starring Adam Rothenberg and Rosemarie DeWitt — and there has never been a Broadway production. “I think a lot of plays have failed on Broadway because they were really meant to be Off Broadway,” said Rockwell, who is working on the show with his producing partner Mark Berger. It’s about two damaged, shame-ridden people trying to find a way out of their own misery. “There are all different kinds of love stories, and this is just one of them,” Plaza said. “And I don’t like the idea that every piece of art that’s out there has to have some kind of social commentary or political message.

While breezy bitcoin has bounced back, leaping by about 55% this year, investments in crypto startups have dropped for the fifth straight quarter. VC crypto bets totaled just under $2.3 billion in April-July this year, the lowest quarterly level for over three years, according to data firm PitchBook. In the first half of 2023, investments were down by almost three-quarters from a year ago to $5 billion. Those that are raising capital now are probably doing it because they have to," said Adam Reeds, CEO of Toronto-based crypto finance company Ledn. VC crypto investments have correlated with crypto asset prices with a lag of roughly three to six months, according to PitchBook, and if current trends continue, VC investment would rise during the second half of 2023.

Disgraced musician R. Kelly and Universal Music Group must pay more than $500,000 in music royalties to his sexual abuse victims, a New York judge ruled. As part of his sentencing in the case, Kelly, Universal and Sony Music Entertainment were ordered to pay his half-million dollar debut. Universal Music Group is holding at least $567,444.19. Universal Music Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday. Researchers found programmers often prefer ChatGPT's (wrong) answers on coding questions. But a pre-print paper released this month suggests ChatGPT has a neat little trick to convince people it's smart: A kind of style over substance approach. Researchers from Purdue University analyzed ChatGPT's replies to 517 questions posted to Stack Overflow, an essential Q&A site for software developers and engineers. The Purdue findings follow research from Stanford and UC Berkeley academics indicating that the large language model is getting dumber. In response to the Purdue research, computer scientist and AI expert Timnit Gebru tweeted: "Great that Stack Overflow is being destroyed by OpenAI +friends."

A beaten finalist in 2019, the Netherlands will likely be feeling very confident of going one better this year after an impressive World Cup campaign so far. The Oranje is unbeaten in Australia and New Zealand and has conceded just one goal during the tournament, coming in the 1-1 group stage draw against the United States — also the only game it has failed to win. Spain has both dazzled and disappointed its fans this tournament, racking up high-scoring wins over Zambia, Costa Rica and then Switzerland in the last-16. However, the team’s low point came in a 4-0 demolition against Japan in the final group stage match, a game that laid bare La Roja's weaknesses. Spain will likely chalk it up to a off day, while others will point to the sobering defeat as proof the team isn’t yet up to level of the true title contenders Down Under.

What started the spiked beverage trend? Spiked beverages have been around for a while. For decades, it was “generally frowned upon” for non-alcoholic beverage brands to enter the alcoholic beverage market, Stanford said. Hard seltzer, meanwhile, had $3.8 billion in sales over the past 12 months, a 14% decline compared to last year. Some AI models that compete against Stack Overflow were partly trained on the company's data. Online communities, like Stack Overflow and Wikipedia, thrived as hubs for experts and curious browsers to come together and share information freely. In 2021, Prosus, a major backer of Chinese tech giant Tencent, bought Stack Overflow for $1.8 billion. However, Nat Friedman, the CEO of Github through 2021, expects tech companies to pay for training data in the future. The patient was a 39-year-old woman who had come to the emergency department at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. On a recent steamy Friday, Dr. Megan Landon, a medical resident, posed this real case to a room full of medical students and residents. They were gathered to learn a skill that can be devilishly tricky to teach — how to think like a doctor. “Doctors are terrible at teaching other doctors how we think,” said Dr. Adam Rodman, an internist, a medical historian and an organizer of the event at Beth Israel Deaconess. But this time, they could call on an expert for help in reaching a diagnosis — GPT-4, the latest version of a chatbot released by the company OpenAI.

It's half time at the Eden Park Stadium in Auckland, where underdogs New Zealand have held firm for the first 45 minutes against former World Cup winners Norway. The Scandinavians are among the tournament favorites this year, but despite dominating much of the play have been unable to break through the home side's defense and create a clear-cut chance. But it hasn't been all defending from New Zealand. The home side have enjoyed several threatening moments of their own going forward, much to the delight of the sold-out home crowd. In the final moments of the half, New Zealand kept the pressure on, with several opportunities in the box.

There's a reason why in the 2010s everything from Ubers to Netflix subscriptions felt oddly cheap. Now alternatives are gone and prices are up — so we'll still end up poorer. There's a reason why the 2010s felt like a great time for young people who wanted their lives phone-orientated and cheap. The progressives, perhaps, were a little too willing to compromise their principles for convenience. There was little public outcry as this all ostensibly benefited consumers, and temporarily created what the New York Times' Kevin Roose described as a "millennial lifestyle subsidy."

The problem is, conservative economists at the University of Chicago have spent the past 50 years insisting that under capitalism, predatory pricing is not a thing. Predatory companies could never recoup their losses, which meant predatory behaviors are irrational. Lots of economists have come up with solid counter-counterarguments to the Chicago School's skepticism about predatory pricing. A company that engages in predatory pricing and its late-stage investors might not recoup, but the venture investors do. "If people in Silicon Valley start thinking about this as a predatory pricing scam, then I think the late-stage investors will start asking questions."

Interior view of the Bank of England by Joseph Michael Gandy. Photo: Sir John Soane's Museum/Bridgeman ImagesDuring the 18th century, the British Empire rose to global dominance by developing a new model of organized government, one that proved especially effective at converting the wealth of a free society into the power of a fiscal-military state. At the heart of this system was the Bank of England, “the grand Palladium of Public Credit,” as the Bank’s inspectors described it in 1784.

"Tesla is happy to support other EVs via our Supercharger network," Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted, replying to President Joe Biden's announcement. And by tapping into a vehicle's battery management system, Tesla may be able to get even more data from its competitors. There were jokes for years that Tesla was actually a carbon-credit company pretending to be a car company. For a while it looked as if it were going to be an insurance company pretending to be a car company. Now, I think it's going to be a data company — which may just be the thing that winds up keeping it afloat.
