That's the view of Caroline Cai, CEO of U.S.-based Pzena Investment Management. "This is really for the first time in the last seven, eight years where we think you're getting paid to expose yourself to China," Cai told "CNBC Squawk Box Asia" this week. The investment firm has ramped up its exposure to Chinese equities in the last two years. "It's not because we have a particularly positive view on longer term Chinese macro, we kind of think things are pretty challenging. "Our view is, if the risk is obvious to everyone, at least you're getting paid to take some exposure," she added.

This past week saw several pure-play space stocks rally, with leaders up as much as 20% or more, in part driven by what sector analysts said is a "Trump-Elon trade," a nod to the relationship between President-elect Donald Trump and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Just this week saw Rocket Lab up 41%, Intuitive Machines up 28%, Spire Global up 26%, Planet Labs up 16%, Redwire up 15% and AST SpaceMobile up 10%. But there's a broader market sentiment that's driving these stocks too, said Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Andres Sheppard, who has buy ratings on Rocket Lab, Redwire and Intuitive Machines. "I think there's definitely a risk-on, post-Trump-win rally that's being reflected in this industry," Sheppard told CNBC. Back out even further to take a year-to-date perspective, and this week's top-performing space stocks have broken out of a post-SPAC malaise to triple or even quadruple in 2024.

However, he went on to back up Chair Jerome Powell 's statement Thursday that the Fed doesn't need to be "in a hurry" to cut. "I do think if there's disagreement of what's the neutral rate, it does make sense at some point to start slowing." Getting to neutral, or a place that neither boosts nor restrains growth, is the Fed's ultimate goal, but Trump's victory could complicate the journey. The burst of euphoria after Trump's win actually complicates the situation by providing looser financial conditions that might make the Fed slower to ease. In any event, traders see a high likelihood that even if a December cut does happen, the Fed almost certainly will skip January as it assesses the landscape.

Jim Cramer names hot sectors that could use a pullback
  + stars: | 2024-11-14 | by ( Julie Coleman | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +2 min
CNBC's Jim Cramer on Thursday suggested the post-election market has been extreme, with big wins and big losses. "We have a lot of overly loved stocks in this market right now," he said. Cramer pointed out the sharp rise of enterprise software stocks, saying that it seems these companies with in-demand products for big corporations can do no wrong. Cramer also highlighted two sectors he said are "too hated," but could bounce back, including pharmaceuticals and semiconductors. For semiconductors, Cramer concluded that those companies have suffered in part because some feel that new artificial intelligence-powered PCs haven't taken off.

"I don't think work-life balance exists," Dilan Gomih, the founder and CEO of the workplace performance and wellness consultancy Dilagence, told Business Insider. For Disney's fiscal 2025, streaming will generate enough operating income to offset the parallel decline in operating income from linear TV, Johnston said in an interview. Disney projects entertainment direct-to-consumer operating income will increase by about $875 million next year over fiscal year 2024. That would put the division at over $1 billion in operating income for the coming fiscal year. Disney's combined streaming businesses improved their profitability in the company's fiscal fourth quarter, posting operating income of $321 million. For the year, Disney's entertainment streaming platforms (Disney+ and Hulu) made $143 million in operating income.

AdvertisementLately, creative workers are increasingly chasing their Hollywood dreams in production hubs far from Hollywood. FilmLA, which issues permits for production in the region, found that Greater Los Angeles' share of US-produced TV and film projects declined from 23% in 2021 to 18% last year. Brin said Lexington had attracted 30 film and TV projects so far this year, representing more than $2 million in local spending. Actually being on a set is only one part of entertainment production. While the power of Los Angeles is dispersing, no single "new Hollywood" is coming to take its place.
