But, like many child-free women, they'd prefer if the conversation at gatherings wasn't always focused on babies and weddings. "How do you meet people your age if you don't have kids and you don't meet people through that group?" At the first Women Who Walk event in September 2023, 80 women showed up. In the US in 2022, there were 21.9 million women aged between 20 and 39 who did not have children, which is 4.7 million more women than anticipated, according to the Carsey School of Public Policy. For this reason, Curthoys and Collins never expected the women who joined up to be so vulnerable immediately.

Left-wing and centrist parties in France are scrambling to block the rival National Rally from winning the ongoing parliamentary election, according to analysts, after support for the far-right faction surged in the first electoral round on Sunday. Figures posted on Monday morning by the French Interior Ministry showed that the far-right National Rally (RN) and its allies had secured a combined 33.1% of votes, while the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) alliance won 28% and French President Emmanual Macron's centrist Together bloc garnered 20%. The outcome of the first round of the election has led to discussions from left-wing and centrist politicians about how to minimize the amount of parliamentary seats secured by the RN in the second round of voting on July 7. "Our objective is clear: to prevent the National Rally from having an absolute majority in the second round, from dominating the National Assembly and from governing the country with the disastrous project that it has," French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, a Macron ally, wrote on social media platform X late on Sunday according to a CNBC translation. "I say it with the force that the moment demands to each of our voters: not a single vote must go to the National Rally," he added.

But these days, we're seeing parents bestow names typically given to girls on their sons. Parents who choose these names think it's better to grow into an adult-sounding name than outgrow a baby-ish name. Names that end in "ai" are easily pronounced in many languages, including indigenous languages, European languages, Japanese, and African languages. But now we're seeing parents embrace that names can be girly but still strong. We're seeing a rise in long, elaborate names but also in shorter, cutesy names for girls.

"Brat," along with viral hits like Sabrina Carpenter's "Espresso" and Tinashe's "Nasty," have ushered in a season of pleasure and levity — what my friends and I have been calling a "smooth brain summer." The primary lure of pop music has always been escapism. Indeed, we've lived in a pop world dominated by Taylor Swift and refashioned in her likeness for several years. These peculiar bops form the perfect foundation for a "smooth brain summer" soundtrack — though please note that doesn't mean they're devoid of value or meaning. An appetite (and a need) still exists for complex metaphors, history lessons, and personal revelations in pop music — but now is not the time.

Volkswagen's $5 billion investment in electrical vehicle startup Rivian is a "catch-up move" for the German automaker, but could take years to pay off, according to Cyrus Mewawalla, head of thematic intelligence at GlobalData. Volkswagen and Rivian on Tuesday announced that the German auto maker would invest as much as $5 billion in Rivian in the coming years following an initial $1 billion investment. Rivian shares were up 42% in premarket trading on Wednesday. "Volkswagen has fallen behind in two areas, on electric vehicles themselves, but also on autonomous driving and other software within the car. The investment will therefore help Volkswagen in these areas, but the firm is notably behind in the electric vehicle space, he added.
