CNN —The first criminal trial of Donald Trump is officially underway. Prosecutors and Trump’s attorneys delivered opening statements and the first witness – a former National Enquirer publisher – was called Monday in the historic and unprecedented criminal trial of a former president. “The defendant Donald Trump orchestrated a criminal scheme to corrupt the 2016 presidential election,” said prosecutor Matthew Colangelo told jurors. At the hearing, Trump’s attorneys came to an agreement with the New York attorney general’s office on the terms of that $175 million bond. Trump’s attorneys representing him in the civil matter later stopped by the criminal trial and spoke to cameras in the hallway outside the courtroom where Trump sat at the defense table.

Former President Donald Trump is poised to receive an additional 36 million shares of Trump Media on Tuesday — an "earnout" bonus worth more than $1.25 billion, at Monday's price. The 36 million additional shares for Trump would be added to the 78.75 million shares he already owns, as the company's majority shareholder. When the earnout shares are added to his existing stock, Trump's total stake in Trump Media would be worth more than $4 billion on paper, at $35 a share. But since then, Trump Media's share price has plunged. By the close of trading on April 15, the share price had fallen nearly 68% from its opening price.

Some career experts liken LinkedIn to a living, breathing CV, while others say they spend longer on a candidate's LinkedIn profile than on their résumé. Shah shared three other ways candidates can optimize LinkedIn to stand out to hiring managers. Treat your LinkedIn profile like a résuméPeople are used to enhancing their résumés to stand out in employers' keyword-searching software. Add those phrases to your LinkedIn profile too, because recruiters look for candidates by typing in industry-related keywords, Shah said. Jonathan Poquette is currently serving as a sniper in Ukraine, and he said that his unit prefers AK-74 rifles, which are chambered for 5.45×39mm rounds. He said that the prolific availability of older rifles among Ukraine's soldiers was also partly an issue with Ukraine's planning. This has also included ammunition from defeated Russian soldiers, or that fleeing Russians have left behind. That means the labor market would remain strong, but inflation would also stay above the Federal Reserve's long-term goal of 2%. While that's fine for now, Hartnett warns it's a path that eventually leads to trouble for the economy and stocks. "We say rising no landing risks = rising hard landing risks," Hartnett said in an April 11 note. The fund's price dipped below its 200-day moving average in 2020 and 2022, when the economy slowed and stocks underperformed.

If Ukraine loses to Russia, NATO forces would face an emboldened Russian military, war experts say. AdvertisementIf Ukraine loses to Russia, NATO countries could consequently find themselves facing an emboldened, "battle-hardened" Russian army with a clearer path to war, an analyst argues. Able to overrun a defeated Ukraine, Russia would be threatening parts of the alliance that haven't faced a Russian threat since the fall of the Soviet Union. AdvertisementIn that dire scenario, "NATO troops, inexperienced in fighting modern mechanized war, would be staring down a battle-hardened Russian military, emboldened from its victory in Ukraine," Kagan wrote. Donald Trump complained Wednesday that his lawyers were not given "unlimited" chances to reject prospective jurors at his New York criminal hush money trial. Trump suggested that New York City, which leans heavily Democratic, is only better than Washington, D.C. Trump also faces criminal election interference charges in federal court in Washington. Trials for Class E felonies, which include the charges of falsifying business records that Trump faces, get the fewest number of challenges. Trump's complaint on Truth Social demonstrates "his willful ignorance of the law," said Jeremy Saland, another New York criminal defense attorney. Trump's lawyers and prosecutors can make an unlimited number of requests to Judge Juan Merchan to strike a potential juror for cause.

Energy stocks have finally caught fire in an increasingly uncomfortable backdrop for investors. Another compelling selling point for energy stocks is that there will be strong long-term demand for oil, Kostin wrote. "Our commodities strategists expect long-term energy demand will remain solid, in part because of increased global energy demand from the structural rise in transportation needs in EMs and AI." All three stocks will enjoy resilient long-term energy demand, Kostin wrote. Each firm has pulled back lately alongside the slight dip in oil prices and would benefit if the rally resumes.
