SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah’s Republican governor and lieutenant governor are urging the State Board of Education to take action against a conservative school board member whose social media post questioning the gender of a high school basketball player incited a tirade of threats against the girl. But as laws banning trans girls from girls' sports have spread across Republican-led states, false accusations such as this have threatened the safety of both trans and non-trans youths. Spencer Cox said Cline has “embarrassed the state” by dogpiling on a child she thought to be trans. Democratic state lawmakers are calling for Cline's immediate resignation, and the governor and lieutenant governor have asked the school board to “hold her accountable.”The State Board of Education condemned Cline's actions in a statement Thursday but said it has no power or authority to unseat her. The Granite School Board will hold a special meeting Friday to discuss a resolution condemning Cline for targeting one of its students.

"Ultimately, I spent more time home alone doing nothing than ever before," Epstein, CEO of the still-in-beta social networking app Kndrd, told Business Insider. "I spoke to a thousand strangers" — many who also felt a lack of community, companionship, or friendship, she added. But while investors may want to see viral, overnight growth for an app like Kndrd, Epstein hesitates at that strategy. "And that means me reading applications and vetting the community members and making sure that we have people who are the strongest, most high fidelity people." In the future, Kndrd also plans to incorporate AI into its user experience — something on nearly every investor's mind right now.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is sending several senior aides to Michigan to meet with Arab American and Muslim leaders, according to three people familiar with the matter, as his administration's handling of the Israel-Hamas war frustrates members of a key constituency in a 2024 battleground state. Also expected to attend are Tom Perez, who leads the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, as well as Mazen Basrawi, the White House liaison to American Muslim communities, and aides Jamie Citron and Dan Koh. Siblani was one of the few Arab American leaders to meet with Rodriguez when she visited Dearborn at the end of January. The White House says administration officials have been in regular contact with Muslim and Arab American leaders in Michigan and across the country. He did not meet with Arab American and Muslim community members.

Mr. Montgomery was indicted in July by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, accused of a scheme to funnel campaign contributions to the mayor and to conceal the source of donations. In his plea Monday, Mr. Montgomery, 64, agreed not to organize or host any fund-raisers or solicit contributions for a campaign for one year. In return, the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, said that he would recommend that Mr. Montgomery complete 200 hours of community service and pay a $500 fine. The mayor was not implicated in the indictment and has not been accused of any wrongdoing. When the charges became public, his campaign spokesman, Evan Thies, thanked Mr. Bragg’s prosecutors for “their hard work on behalf of taxpayers.”

While Jackson’s transformation was a savvy collaboration with makeup brand CoverFx, temporary tattoo camouflage has snowballed as an essential celebrity makeup technique. While shooting the Disney+ series “The Bear,” Jeremy Allen White required extensive tattoo coverage (and temporary tattoo re-application) that would withstand filming for hours in a hot kitchen. Paris Jackson was a blank canvas on the red carpet after her makeup artists spent two hours camouflaging her 80 tattoos, shown on the right. Elsewhere on the red carpet, while Rey and Jackson were disguising their ink, Doja Cat (who scooped three awards this season) went face-first into the world of — albeit temporary — tattoos. Doja Cat was covered in temporary tattoos at the Grammy awards on Sunday in Los Angeles.

More people living closer together is necessary to create more affordable and inclusive neighborhoods, housing advocates say. The research, which involved surveying almost 1,900 people living in 15 municipalities in the Vancouver region of British Columbia, found no evidence that higher-density living is associated with decreased happiness, social connection, or well-being. A former Internal Revenue Service contractor accused of leaking the tax documents of Donald J. Trump and other wealthy Americans was sentenced on Monday to five years in prison. The former contractor, Charles Littlejohn, known as Chaz, worked for the tax agency from 2017 to 2021, when he stole the tax records of thousands of the country’s wealthiest people, including Mr. Trump, prosecutors said. Mr. Littlejohn then provided the information to The New York Times and ProPublica. “Today’s sentence sends a strong message that those who violate laws intended to protect sensitive tax information will face significant punishment,” Nicole M. Argentieri, the acting assistant attorney general who oversees the Justice Department’s criminal division, said in a statement. Prosecutors said the harm from Mr. Littlejohn’s disclosures were “so extensive and ongoing that it is impossible to quantify.”

I value both saving for retirement and saving for my son's college, but retirement is my first priority. Recently, I spoke with Ashley Rittershaus, a CFP and founder of Curious Crow Financial Planning, a fee-only comprehensive financial planning firm. Advertisement"Some common advice is that it's more important to save for retirement than college because your children can take out loans for college, but you can't take out loans for retirement," says Rittershaus. "Setting your child up for financial success can come in forms other than paying for college," says Rittershaus. After our relationship got to a point where we realized we were better off as friends, we researched how to get out of a domestic partnership, and it's pretty simple. I took out a personal loan for debt consolidationDuring the time we were domestic partners, we took out a debt consolidation loan for $25,000 from Lending Club in June 2022. The loan was for $25,000, and it was taken out as a personal loan that we were using for debt consolidation. The reason we went into a domestic partnership was partly romantic and partly practical.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The U.S. Air Force plans to expand its search for grave sites in a former Black cemetery at a base in Florida after discovering 121 potential sites already, a base official said. Lt. Laura Anderson told news stations this week that a nonintrusive archaeological survey performed over the past two years at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa identified 58 probable graves and 63 possible graves. The base also deployed search teams to go over the area with ground penetrating radar and cadaver dogs. It plans to look at an area to the north of the main cemetery area this year for any additional evidence of graves, Anderson said. “We know obviously there was wrong done in the past, but we’re working together with our community members,” Anderson said.
