The company's typical worker is a 39-year-old woman in Dallas earning $18 per hour. She would also work at a Supercenter near Dallas, Texas, where the company told Insider it has the highest density of stores. Her job assignment is most likely to be either a stocker, who refills shelves with merchandise, or a digital picker, who collects orders for online shoppers, the company told Insider. Although she might be demographically "typical," the job she does is anything but, a worker in Illinois told Insider. Walmart told Insider it does not keep track of how many jobs associates have at a time.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Australian Minjee Lee weathered a late rally by Alison Lee to eventually defeat the American on the first playoff hole and win the LPGA South Korea tournament on Sunday. “These last few holes, I was quite excited to play, and you know, we always want to be putting ourselves in that position, in the contending position, week-in, week-out and I was lucky enough to do it this week," Minjee Lee said. It was 27-year-old Minjee Lee's 10th tour title and second win in her last three starts after claiming the Kroger Queen City Championship in Cincinnati in July. Angel Yin (67) followed her breakthrough win at the LPGA Shanghai event last week with a fourth-place finish at 13-under 275. Rite Aid's bankruptcy is likely to be a bigger boost to retailers such as Walmart and Costco than it will be to other drugstore chains, according to UBS. And as drugstore closures accelerate, dollar stores may be able to scoop up some of the abandoned locations. Discount chains Dollar Tree and Dollar General could also benefit from drugstore closures. Dollar stores, in particular, could also expand into store fronts once operated by drugstore chains. For dollar stores, the real advantage will be the real estate left behind.

[1/2] The Kroger supermarket chain's headquarters is shown in Cincinnati, Ohio, U.S., June 28, 2018. Bonta said the decision has not been made, but added: "Right now there's not a lot of reason not to sue." In September, the companies announced a plan to sell more than 400 grocery stores to C&S Wholesale Grocers in an effort to get regulatory approval for the deal. A Kroger spokesperson said only non-unionized retailers, like Walmart and Amazon, will benefit if the merger is blocked. When her husband, a UPS truck driver, nearly died from heatstroke, Theresa Klenk stepped in to help workers negotiate for air conditioning in all UPS trucks. At the time, she said, no UPS drivers wanted to speak up about the increasingly brutal conditions for fear of being reprimanded. According to UPS, drivers stop on average every three minutes — barely enough time for air-conditioning to make a dent. This year’s record heat caused dozens of deaths, filled some hospitals to pandemic levels and prompted government warnings about avoiding extended exposure to heat. It was a bittersweet victory for Jim and Theresa Klenk.

New York CNN —Blue Apron shares soared more than 130% Friday after the once-hot meal kit delivery service announced it was being acquired. Wonder Group, a food delivery startup led by former Walmart and Jet executive Marc Lore, is buying Blue Apron in a deal that gives shareholders $13 per share, valuing Blue Apron at $103 million — a far cry from its $2 billion valuation just six years ago. Since Blue Apron went public in 2017, its fortunes have dwindled with a number of problems, including layoffs, failing to grow its customer base and competition from larger companies, such as Amazon and Kroger. The Blue Apron (APRN) name will continue to be used following the close of the transaction. In June, Blue Apron sold its assets, such as its fulfillment centers, to fellow meal company FreshRealm, giving it a $50 million cash infusion.

In 2022, inventory "shrink" as a percentage of total retail sales accounted for $112.1 billion in losses, up from $93.9 billion in 2021, according to the NRF report on Tuesday. Retailers are either being forced to close a specific store location, reduce operating hours or alter in-store product selection to deal with the spike in retail crime, the report added. Dollar Tree (DLTR.O) has said it plans to remove goods like men's underwear, an item most prone to retail theft, from its stores. Retailers are ramping up prevention methods with 34% of respondents increasing internal payroll to support risks related to retail crime and 46% increasing the use of third-party security personnel among other methods, according to NRF. As Instacart's largest individual shareholder, Mehta is now worth a reported $1.1 billion after selling 700,000 shares of the company he launched in San Francisco in 2012. He quit his job and moved to San Francisco with a desire to build his own successful startup but no clear plan, he said. "The reason why I quit my job at Amazon was because I wanted to become an entrepreneur," Mehta said. At the top of the latest IPO price range, the enterprise value would be 16x EBITDA. The right valuation for Instacart depends on where the ultimate rate of sales growth falls, Einhorn said. Including the cash on the company's balance sheet, that values Instacart at about three times EBITDA – way below DoorDash's valuation. Even that would value the company at only seven times 2025 EBITDA, and about 14 times EBITDA from the last four quarters, still a sharp discount to DoorDash. So in a twist few would have predicted in 2020 or 2021, Instacart is trying to go public as a value stock, carefully managed to wring the best results from potentially modest growth.

Meanwhile, two indoor farming companies that attracted strong startup money — New Jersey's AeroFarms and Kentucky's AppHarvest — filed for bankruptcy reorganization. Advocates say growing indoors uses less water and land and allows food to be grown closer to consumers, saving on transport. Tom Kimmerer, a plant physiologist who taught at the University of Kentucky, has tracked indoor farming alongside his research into the growth of plants both outdoors and inside. He said some companies may be struggling to scale up, with problems that come from launching in spaces that aren't necessarily built specifically for indoor farming. Several of the companies say they're on the right track.
