REUTERS/Adrees Latif/File PhotoWASHINGTON, May 8 (Reuters) - Two Republicans on Monday asked a congressional watchdog to assess the Biden administration's management of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and audit its modernization program, saying sales from the SPR have undermined U.S. energy security. Over about six months last year, the Biden administration conducted a record sale of 180 million barrels of oil to combat high gasoline prices after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Biden administration wrote to lawmakers last month, saying the sales did not damage the SPR. The lawmakers said they were concerned about delays and cost overruns in the SPR modernization program authorized by Congress in 2015.

April 11 (Reuters) - Utilities firm Dominion Energy Inc (D.N) will buy Longroad Energy's 108 megawatt solar project in Virginia, the U.S.-based renewable energy developer said on Tuesday. The solar project, called Foxhound, has been in development for six years and will produce enough clean energy to power more than 17,000 homes, Longroad said in a press release. Dominion and other large U.S. utilities with renewable projects are set to benefit from new federal clean-energy funding in the $430 billion Inflation Reduction Act. The act provides billions of dollars in tax credits and direct payments for solar, wind, battery and other energy sources to transition from fossil fuels. The financial close of Dominion's acquisition is expected upon mechanical completion of the project in January 2024.

The effort comes as the United States seeks to sustain its liquefied natural gas, or LNG, exports to Europe to displace Russian fuel, while also promoting efforts to fight global warming. A credible market for certified natural gas could help it tackle both goals at once. Crabtree said he hosted a workshop in October with gas industry representatives, including a new industry group called the Differentiated Gas Coordinating Council (DGCC), to discuss standards for certified gas. While gas burns cleaner than other fossil fuels, its main component is the powerful greenhouse gas methane, which can leak into the atmosphere from drilling, processing, shipping and distribution. Palti-Guzman said certified gas could also be key to securing a longterm role for U.S. LNG in Europe where carbon prices last month hit a record 100 euros per tonne.
