Spencer Platt | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesThis report is from today's CNBC Daily Open, our international markets newsletter. CNBC Daily Open brings investors up to speed on everything they need to know, no matter where they are. The S&P 500 climbed 1.07%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.31% and the Nasdaq Composite shot up 2.17%. Core inflation, to which the Fed pays more attention because it more accurately reflects price movements, came in a bit higher than expected for the month. Core inflation was higher than the headline number because food and energy prices are stripped out from the former.

You spot an entrepreneur who built a massive audience on social media by posting attention-grabbing content after studying algorithms and trends. Sounds like YouTube's top creator MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson), right? It also sounds a bit like BuzzFeed cofounder Jonah Peretti, says Sam Lessin, general partner at the VC firm Slow Ventures. Both built large followings on social media by posting viral, general-interest content, Lessin said. "BuzzFeed was wrong to believe that you could growth hack your way to a valuable audience, and that audience, if it was really big, would be really valuable," Lessin said.

Here's a rapid-fire update on all 32 stocks in Jim Cramer's Charitable Trust, the portfolio we use for the CNBC Investing Club. AMD shares have caught a bid in recent days, but they're still cheap considering the growth of its AI processors. Broadcom : Investors who don't own any Broadcom yet should consider starting a position here, Jim said. Although it's tempting to offload shares, Jim said to stick with Honeywell for now because there's huge value in individual businesses like aerospace. Russia's energy revenue could take another hit if Ukraine doesn't renew a key gas deal by the end of the year. AdvertisementRussia could end up losing billions if Ukraine turns its back on a deal to keep gas flowing from the country. Ukraine's state-run energy giant, Naftogaz, is up to renew its gas pipeline deal with Russia's Gazprom by the end of the year. Ending the pipeline deal would be a blow to Russia's gas trade, which is a key lifeline for the economy as it navigates a third year of war in Ukraine. Recently, Russia established a gas pipeline deal with China, which has become one of its largest trading partners.

Apple announced on Monday that its AirPods Pro 2 headphones will become an FDA-cleared hearing aid in the coming weeks through a software update. Apple CEO Tim Cook has highlighted health features as the company's "most important contribution to mankind." The new feature is a free software update for some AirPods models and will be included with Apple's $249 AirPods Pro 2. Many over-the-counter hearing aids are much more expensive, according to buyers guides cited by the Hearing Loss Association of America, an advocacy group. Analysts say that adding health features like a hearing aid expands the market for the device, which could help sales.

Like a lot of hiring managers, Adriane Schwager likes to ask candidates about times in their career they've made a mistake. Usually, it's to get an idea of how you handle stressful situations and how you learn from previous errors. For Schwager, the CEO and co-founder of the hiring platform GrowthAssistant with 20 years of recruiting experience, the answer can uncover a big red flag: whether the person has low ownership of their work. Take an example where someone forgot to send something important to accounting, and it cost the business $250,000, she says. Sometimes, she can also tell whether a candidate has low ownership based on how they describe why they left their previous job.

The AI boom is still in its infancy, following the path of the internet in the 1990s, BofA said. AI's impact will be felt sooner than past tech booms, the bank says. Skepticism about AI has mounted recently as investors get impatient to see AI returns. "Skeptics declare that GenAI's revenue potential doesn't justify the current level of AI infrastructure investment," the report says. On Tuesday, Morgan Stanley chief US equity strategist Mike Wilson said the AI investment theme has been "overcooked," and suggested investors should retreat into defensive stocks.

Where prices have deflatedFor example, prices have declined by about 5% for furniture and bedding and 3% for appliances since August 2023, according to CPI data. Outside of supply-demand dynamics, the U.S. dollar's strength relative to other global currencies has also helped rein in prices for goods, economists said. Airline fares have declined about 1% over the past year, according to CPI data. Grocery prices have fallen for items such as apples, potatoes, ham, coffee, rice, seafood and bananas, according to CPI data.

After eight years of threatening to repeal the Affordable Care Act, more commonly known as Obamacare, former President Donald Trump still doesn’t have a comprehensive plan to replace it. People in the U.S. pay roughly twice as much for health care than any other nation on earth. But is it feasible to create a new health care law that reduces the escalating costs? “Right now, Obamacare is the status quo in health care,” said Larry Levitt, executive vice president of health policy at KFF, a nonprofit group that researches health policy issues. Harris has committed to extending the subsidies; Trump has remained silent.

PHILADELPHIA — Former President Donald Trump found out Tuesday night that he's got a much tougher rival on his hands now. Harris, eager to portray herself as different from both Trump and Biden, reminded him that Biden won't be on the ballot. Trump said Harris has had 3½ years to make the changes she promises to make and argued the Biden-Harris administration squandered progress Trump gave them. Trump and Harris also clashed over the 2020 election, with Trump again falsely claiming that he won. Throughout the debate, Harris needled Trump in ways that undermined his self-image as a popular, strong leader whom American’s adversaries fear.
