CNN —Most moviegoers can pinpoint one summer movie – or perhaps, a summer of movies – in their formative years that really and truly cemented their love for going to the cinema, whether it be 1975’s “Jaws,” “E.T. And while streaming has clearly siphoned off part of the audience, particularly for more serious films, what we think of as “summer movies” still have the potential to rake in cash just like the old days. (CNN and DC are both part of the same parent company, Warner Bros. Courtesy Warner Bros. PicturesInitially meant for streaming platforms, this vehicle will herald the cinematic arrival of DC Studios’ first Latino superhero, played by Xolo Maridueña of “Cobra Kai” and “Parenthood” fame. If the fast-paced trailer is any indication, the movie looks sure to whisk those dog days of summer doldrums away quite nicely.
Beau, the addled midlife wreck played by Joaquin Phoenix in “Beau Is Afraid,” isn’t just afraid, he is terrorized: harassed, beaten, stabbed and even kidnapped in a surreal black comedy that often feels less like a conventional film than a three-hour panic attack. (In the hands of high-anxiety auteur Ari Aster, of “Hereditary” and “Midsommar” fame, consider that a compliment.) Thanks to his monstrous mother, he has become a man resigned to life without love or companionship. For Aster, it turns out, there was never a second choice. There was a feeling like, ‘Look, we’ll try, but we likely won’t be able to afford it.’”
Ari Aster, the horror auteur behind “Midsommar” and “Hereditary,” has described his new film “Beau Is Afraid” as a “Jewish ‘Lord of the Rings.’”Some have said it’s more of a three-hour anxiety dream.

Ari Aster’s “Beau Is Afraid” is a supersized, fitfully amusing, self-important tale of fear and loathing. As the title announces, its protagonist, Beau Wassermann — a terminal sad-sack played by the invariably watchable Joaquin Phoenix — is anxious, well, about everything. Outwardly, “Beau Is Afraid” seems to be a departure for Aster, whose first two features center on horrific happenings and some seriously bad relationships. In “Hereditary” and “Midsommar,” Aster meticulously peels back the ostensibly ordinary surface of the world, its patina of normalcy, to reveal the annihilating malevolence beneath it. In “Beau Is Afraid,” Aster changes things up by making Beau difficult to cozy up to.

House Republicans created a new "weaponization" panel designed to explore their "deep state" conspiracy theories, while other standing committees are jumping all over Trump-era grievances like the southern border to try and orchestrate viral moments. CPAC attendees who told Insider they supported the House GOP's oversight crusade were all over the place in terms of their preferred targets. "I didn't send you to impeach the president," Yadeta said of his frustration, adding that Raskin should have tackled local issues like homelessness and job creation. "I hope we don't just get bogged down with a bunch of investigations where nothing comes out," he told Insider.

[1/2] U.S. President Joe Biden departs the White House to board the Marine One helicopter for travel to Delaware from the White House in Washington, U.S. January 13, 2023. The White House has said the documents were "inadvertently misplaced" and that it is cooperating fully but has declined to respond to detailed questions on the investigation. While working as the Obama campaign's general counsel in 2008, Bauer helped vet Biden as Obama's pick for vice president. The closet where Biden's lawyers found classified documents was inside of a shared "general suite." A second batch of classified documents was discovered by aides at a separate location Biden had used, NBC News reported on Wednesday. He expressed concern about the two-month delay between Biden's lawyers discovering the documents and the White House's public announcement. Trump repeatedly (and foolishly) tried to stonewall Archives and the FBI, which then discovered additional records in the August search; Biden's lawyers say they are cooperating. All cancerous tissue was removed, the White House physician said. Jill Biden went to the hospital for removal of a skin lesion above her right eye. "All cancerous tissue was successfully removed, and the margins were clear of any residual skin cancer cells. "Again, all cancerous tissue was successfully removed," O'Connor said. President Biden "wanted to be there to support her," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said.
The president's physician, Kevin O’Connor, said in the memo that a "small lesion" was found above Biden's right eye during a routine skin cancer screening. According to the American Cancer Society, Mohs surgery involves removing a very thin layer of the skin, including the lesion, and checking the sample under a microscope. If cancer cells are found, additional layers of skin are removed until samples are free from cancer cells. Jill Biden, 71, has been an advocate of cancer prevention and treatment, and teamed up with the American Cancer Society in October to launch roundtables on breast and cervical cancer. Her scheduled surgery comes roughly a year after she vowed to “end the tragedy of cancer as we know it,” by working to support cancer patients and their families and encouraging Americans to prioritize cancer screenings.
