Stock futures are near flat Thursday night as investors analyzed the fresh batch of corporate earnings and attempted to look beyond the latest inflation reading. S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures were also both little changed. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq each fell around 0.3%. Bond yields climbed in the session — with the benchmark 10-year Treasury reaching 4.29% — as investors wondered if the recent economic data was too strong for the Federal Reserve to loosen monetary policy. Investors will watch Friday morning for economic data on topics such as consumer sentiment, import prices and industrial production.

Although celebrities have altered photos with editing tools for years, images taken of the royal family have a historical importance and are expected to be authentic. The use of image editing to present a false narrative goes back almost to the dawn of photography itself. Image tools with generative AI will allow so much more than photo manipulation because people will be able to create images from completely new scenarios. As AI images hit the mainstream, it will open up more discussions around transparency and the need to regulate usage so news outlets and the public can better spot AI-generated and augmented images, he said. Although AI image watermarks already being implemented on certain platforms, mandating that will be a challenge, Hayden said.

Justin Sullivan | Getty Images News | Getty ImagesMunich, GERMANY — Rapid developments in artificial intelligence could help strengthen defenses against security threats in cyber space, according to Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Amid growing concerns about the potentially nefarious uses of AI, Pichai said that the intelligence tools could help governments and companies speed up the detection of — and response to — threats from hostile actors. But AI, I think actually, counterintuitively, strengthens our defense on cybersecurity," Pichai told delegates at Munich Security Conference at the end of last week. Read previewA San Jose bakery has slammed Tesla after a company employee placed a massive pie order for Black History Month, only to cancel it after the Black-owned business scrambled to meet the request, according to multiple reports. Voahangy Rasetarinera, the owner of The Giving Pies, wrote on Instagram that Tesla "hurt my small Black women-owned business" through the last-minute cancellation. According to Rasetarinera's account, on February 14 a Tesla company representative called her and asked for 2,000 mini pies to be delivered by the following week. But that evening, the representative called back and doubled the order — setting the bakery rushing to ensure it could meet the demand, Rasetarinera wrote. Rasetarinera said in a February 2 post celebrating Black History Month that she is of Madagascan heritage.

Why can’t we stop calling X, Twitter?

While some people (mainly fans of Musk) have embraced the X brand, most have not. Many people, both online and in person, still call the platform Twitter, and refer to posts as tweets. WHY ARE WE STILL CALLING THIS PLATFORM TWITTER. Even when you do see X, it's framed as "X, formerly Twitter". So the brand is what they say it is… it’s not that customers can’t stop calling it Twitter, it’s that they won’t.”

Voahangy Rasetarinera speaks on San Jose bakery loss of thousands of dollars after Tesla cancels large order. A catering contract to celebrate Black Heritage Month turned into a tough lesson for a Black-owned bakery in the South Bay earlier this month. What started as a $16,000 deal ended up costing the small business owner thousands of dollars instead. But two days after taking the Tesla job, the bakery owner got a simple text message canceling the order. A Tesla spokesperson did not respond to the specific questions but told NBC Bay Area they've been in touch with Rasetarinera.

The AI assistant, currently in beta, is now available on Acrobat, "with features coming to Reader over the coming days and weeks," according to a news release. The AI assistant will help users digest information from long PDF documents by generating brief overviews of their contents, the company said. Adobe's AI assistant is a built-in feature. Now, a group of leading tech companies say they are teaming up to address that threat. More than a dozen tech firms involved in building or using AI technologies pledged on Friday to work together to detect and counter harmful AI content in elections, including deepfakes of political candidates. Tech companies generally have a less-than-stellar record of self-regulation and enforcing their own policies. “Every election cycle, tech companies pledge to a vague set of democratic standards and then fail to fully deliver on these promises. To address the real harms that AI poses in a busy election year … We need robust content moderation that involves human review, labeling and enforcement.”

Tech executives from Adobe, Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and TikTok gathered at the Munich Security Conference to announce a new voluntary framework for how they will respond to AI-generated deepfakes that deliberately trick voters. Thirteen other companies — including IBM and Elon Musk's X — are also signing on to the accord. Instead, the accord outlines methods they will use to try to detect and label deceptive AI content when it is created or distributed on their platforms. That pressure is heightened in the U.S., where Congress has yet to pass laws regulating AI in politics, leaving AI companies to largely govern themselves. Many social media companies already have policies in place to deter deceptive posts about electoral processes — AI-generated or not.

A group of 20 leading tech companies on Friday announced a joint commitment to combat AI misinformation in 2024 elections. The industry is specifically targeting deepfakes, which use deceptive audio, video and images to mimic key stakeholders in democratic elections or to provide false voting information. Microsoft , Meta , Google , Amazon , IBM , Adobe and chip designer Arm all signed the accord. News of the accord comes a day after ChatGPT creator OpenAI announced Sora, its new model for AI-generated video. The accord reflects the industry's effort to take on "AI-generated election misinformation that erodes trust," he said.
